I was at the game, and here is the letter I sent to Jeff Lockridge about the incident. Please note, I do not condone what our guys did, however, let the whole story be told. Jeff, I just read your article about the behavior of the Smyrna football players. While I do not agree with what our players did(They didn’t use obscene gestures by the way), the Ravenwood fans are failing to tell you how unsportsmanlike they were being during our warm ups. I was on the sideline taking pictures for our website on the Ravenwood side. The students were yelling “Smyrna Bulldogs you stink(They didn't use Stink here, but CoachT edits the word” and “JOSH It’s all your fault” they taunted Josh Crouch unmercifully. I was really disturbed by this but kept silent and chalked it up to “teen age immaturity”. From what I saw, I saw several players going back to show Ravenwood that all their trash talk didn’t affect the outcome of the game. This is really sad that some fans are able to make accusations and then taint the State Championship our guys rightfully won. Both sides need to be presented. Mark Gonyea Smyrna High School

The whole mascot thing to me is rather funny. "My mascot's better than yours"... Come on now. Also, why the hatred, the nasty remarks. Its a GAME.... someone has to lose, someone has to win. Ravenwood is a great school. Smyrna is a great school. Both have great teams(hence, they are in the finals of the TSSAA playoffs). Instead of throwing mudd, why don't we just celebrate our teams success and cheer them on when they play. All this negative talk is really making everyone look kind of silly. Saturday is going to be great.

Didn't Ravenwood earn that #4 seed because of how they started the season. They really turned things around since then and are definately firing on all Cylinders. Maybe according to seeding, yes they are underdogs.. but we all know how messed up seeding can be at times. It will be a great game. Sorry about the size of my graphics. Gonyea

The fact about this game (thought I would get us back on topic)...The teams are very evenly matched. I know people are saying Ravenwood is playing better than when we played earlier. However, so is Smyrna. I honestly think(I don't want to use the Believe word) that Smyrna has a new level of confidence coming into this game. Now I know I will probably get some flack from this, but Ravenwood has something to defend(Pressure to repeat) while Smyrna doesn't have that monkey on their back. We weren't supposed to be here(according to most predictions) so we can come out there and play knowing we are the perceived underdogs. GO BULLDOGS..

There was no deception. I have never denied I was DBLTech. As a matter of fact, I have signed coachGonyea on a DBLTech post. Only Tex was observant enough to know about it. Had I tried to find out about what was being said about me under CoachGonyeaSHS, I would have never gotten anyone to say their real feelings. However, this backfired on me. "I don't blame anyone for wanting to beg anonymous" So why are you blaming me...

I remember last year, Springfield coming out of nowhere. Don't count them out...They have some solid young wrestlers who most likely picked up on some good stuff from the Seniors who moved on.

Thanks for letting me know I have issues... CoachGonyeaTemp was created last year because for some unknown reason, I was unable to use CoachGonyeSHS. Once again, I have never hidden the issue that I was DBLTech. There has been much said about me in a negative vein here in our area and I attempted to see if I could ferret out the negative comments. However, it backfired and I realize now I should have just let people talk. I have never said anything bad about our new coach, his program, or wrestlers. I only made comments about myself in an effort to see if what I was being told was true. I should have just been mature and let the negative things go over my head(if you know me, that's not too far ). My biggest fear is that all the hard work I put into this program would be over shadowed by some disgruntled parents and ex-wrestlers who would taint what I believe to be a very positive experience. Forgive me for trying to protect my name and using an anonymous name to do such. I know someone will twist what I am saying here and try to make me feel even more stupid than what I do...but that is life and I must move on now. Once again, good luck to our Bulldogs this year.
