Hey Dave, So it is true that Pat Smith along with Allen Jones will be the coahces at Blackman this year? What are they doing with Hamm?

If this is true, this is awesome news for Blackman. I hope it is. Talk about state dominance. Talk about Southeast Dominance. Keep us posted Coach Kennedy.

This is with all sincerity I say this... please don't read sarcasm into this post... Tell us shootfirst, what are the qualifications of a "TRUE" wrestling coach. Like it or not, all schools have to hire a coach that can teach something. They can't just make up a subject to fill a coaching position. I know... I know... unless it's football. But that's just not Blackman, that's most schools in our mid state. Have you sent in any names of potential candidates? What would that candidate need to come our way to Rutherford County. Also, would you be willing to help with the interview process. They actually may need someone to help guide them. My question would be, has anyone(parents) contacted the school about possibly helping. This is a very touchy subject, so being very congenial and politically schmoozing would help. Outrage will get parents no where in this scenario.

I agree. No one should assume that just because the person is a soccer coach that they don't know anything about wrestling. I also coach soccer. However, I am very knowledgeable in wrestling. There was not assumption though, I know the man personally and know that he has never coached wrestling, never wrestled... He is a good guy though and I'm sure he'll do his best. That's not the issue. Also, I have now seen 3 different subjects that Blackman has offered for coaches... English, Biology and Math. How is that not trying? Once again, I'm not trying to stir anything up. It's just the constant inaccuracies that are annoying. I agree that Hamm, Kennedy, Feurbacher and Harmon have done good things for this program. To be honest, I think Blackman will be fine if they just let Hamm assume the role of Head Coach. He is a great coach and the boys have already established a good relationship with him. I hope Blackman can actually reach their potential this year and finish in the top 3 of the state. I have nothing but great hopes for these guys. Good luck to all of you.

My actual reason for not trekking to BHS was that our principal of 50 years decided not to retire. Yes I had that conversation... But it was that same parent who emailed me a year earlier pleading with me to take the job. Funny how some are saying I'm not qualified... Yet... (to quote some of the so called things a qualified person would have) I wrestled in MI, I won the region when region V had 24 teams... Brentwood, Franklin, etc. Ask any of my former wrestlers an they'll tell you conditioning was never questioned... One time in 7 years did a Rutherford co. Team beat Smyrna. All of this without a feeder program. Yes Hamm is a great coach... I go way back with Hamm. He will do a great job. But now you have an assistant soccer coach.

I am disPpointed too. I have been biting my tongue because I beleve there is some information that is being incorrectly interpreted. I just simply stated that not all is what it seems and I have been trying to discern what was appropriate for airing on this forum. What I really have to say can't be aired on here and don't ask me to. But you can not try to characterize this as a Sole problem of the blackman administration. There are more variables at play here. I guess I shouldn't have said "that's not accurate" and should have said "you shouldn't go there"

This is what I commented on.. Fact... They had spoke to several other candidates... I was asked to talk with them... I never applied... I see too many problems brewing over there. And what do you know about me ? You guys need to understand that Rutherford county pays every wrestling coach the same amount... Win or lose... They make 2100 a year! Now, how do you get a coach from a college or a national level with that kind of fantastic draw. As far as the assistants go.... There is a Rutherford County policy that states that a wrestling coach may only have ONE non faculty assistant coach. Now... since none of you are employed by the Rutherford County Board of Education, it would be easy for you to ignore this rule. However, when a principal is instructed to enforce this rule, the teacher who is employed by the county needs to follow that rule. If you want that rule to change, don't talk to the principal, talk to the board of education.... You guys might want to go to one of the meetings and voice your opinion. That would be a good stage. I've stated my opinion .... And I do hope for your boys you guys get what you want... You have a great group of boys and they deserve the best.

Sorry for the sarcasm... I was making a point about Hamm's initial post which stated that an Advanced English position was open. I teach math... There "WERE" a number of positions open. That was a month or two ago when Harmon turned in his resignation.
