Not trying to put down any of the young ladies from Cannon co. but, there were two or three teams in 8AA that had more total talent than Cannon this year. Coaching made the difference.
I agree totally, he did a good job this year and is a good coach. True there were some teams with more talent in 8aa, but with that said a lot of times it boils to chemistry and that relates to personalities of coaches and players. This year wasn't the most talented Cannon team but had good chemistry.
-
From what I have heard they have not had as many to apply unlike what has been posted on here. Dodgen is a good coach but he will not have the talent he has had the last few years at Cannon if he goes to White County. Whoever gets this job better make sure they can handle being criticized and scrutinized because it won't be a walk in the park!

Although I think everyone does deserve a second chance, this is a little befuddling to me. Not only did he throw the game, he made a complete mockery of the game and sport in general. I don't know how good of a coach he is considering Riverdale had already won 3 State Championships before he got there, and he had a team left by John Wild that returned virtually the whole team from the 2012 CState Champion. But hey Lebanon has some great people that will make an excellent decision one way or the other.

Ok folks here is your time to be the Executive Director. What issues should the TSSAA address for basketball? This is open ended, so it should bring variety.

You guys can defend who you would like, that is fine and I dont care. What my point is, is that it is very funny that these girls/families always seem to find their way into an area that Insell is working in. I have been around AAU before and those kids didnt play for coaches that had ties to a high school(s). They did travel from all around, not a big deal either. What is a big deal is the ones that play for these AAU teams in the Boro some how end up moving there. The AAU programs I have been around before didnt have kids move like these do. And its not just from out of state kids, as has been mentioned on here, 2 left LaVergne for Stewarts Creek. Why? Could they not have gotten playing time and recognition where they were? The 3 that transfered into Oakland this year, if they were that good, why didnt they stay where they were and be the best there. They would have still gotten college looks. These Boro area schools are not the only ones that develop players and get kids scholarship opportunities, and yet for some reason they keep getting kids to move in. Call it what you want to, but it is no different than what Insell had people doing for him at Shelbyville and now for all of these schools in the Boro... RECRUIT!
Well said, it is ironic this has happened, glad you noticed that too!

D2 didn't exist yet.
That means it was tougher, they were all in with the public schools, has to beat them all to win it.

"Game has evolved" goes beyond the game itself. Different environment with T$$AA. Certain rules have changed in the game too. If they were back in high school, they'd fare, but not as well in today's game.
What has evolved so much and what rules have changed exactly? It hasn't been that long ago.
-
They wouldn't stack up as well today.
What is your reasoning?

Offensive foul called on east three straight possessions with under 2 min left in the game. Terrible officiating ruined the end of this game
Imagine that, but they are the best in Tennessee that's why they are calling the state!
-
I am a complete outsider but Alabama wasn't the best choice of comparison. Mainly because the two states actually aren't even close in population. Alabama is at approximately 4.7 million and Tennessee is at approximately 6.8 million. That is a massive difference.
Sorry if I was off a couple million, my bad. Yet they have more classes and a better overall tournament format and attendance for the state tournament.

Actually, that is about the LAST thing that anything can be done about. I mean seriously, what rock do you live under? Do you think people are lined up to be a TSSAA official? Alot of areas don't have enough officials. You want to get rid the bad officials? Thats fine, do it. But then you better be ready to have one man crews in middle school and JV ball. And two man crews in varsity ball.
The fact of the matter is TN refs are some of the lowest paid in this part of the country. I know MO referees get about 1 1/2 times the amount for a varsity double header as TN refs do my particular area of the state. You get what you pay for. Or I have an idea, the TSSAA can take an even LARGER chunk of of the percentage of what they take from the school's gates to pay for some actual legitimate training for officials, what do you think about that? Try getting the schools to go along with that one.
They could definitely do something about this too, it is simple. To be able to referee in the state, you pay them more, personally I would like to see it go up to $125-150 for a doubleheader with stipulations that you will be held accountable and evaluated by the schools and coaches after each game. This evaluation has nothing to do with whether they missed the call in the 3rd quarter or not, it should be professionalism, knowledge of the rules, and such. Remember these officials are employees of the schools they have the privilege to represent by officiating the games, they are not the show, no one pays to see them mess up a game or for that matter call a great game. They are there to see the players decide the game PERIOD!
At the end of the year the officials that are ranked the highest get the honor of officiating the tournament, not the 'good ole boy system' that is in place now. I would venture to guess if this type system were set up in Tennessee, the quality of officials would improve dramatically. Other states use a similar system and it works. But the supervisors fight it hard. This is something that all sports need across Tennessee on the high school level.

AL is a bad choice for your agruement. They have 7 classes and crown 7 girls' and 7 boys' state basketball champs. They played from Feb 23 - Feb 28. The best thing that i see is that the girls and biys play the game week. Girls' games 1st and 3rd. Boys games 2nd and 4th. the bad thing was that the 1A teams played semi's on Feb 23 and did not play championship until Feb 27.
And your arguement is?
-
Agreed. This is if and only if the TSSAA will listen to their members, which is anyone's guess. They have some issues that they never move past discussion stages, that is disappointing to say the least. They have schools in the same class that are over twice the size of others. They seem to solve the problem in football by adding 3 more classes for the playoffs, tell me exactly how that is fair to the kids in other sports? Then in some sports you have and A-AA champ and AAA champ, only 2 state champions, how can this be? And please don't give me this would water it down or just give everyone a trophy defense! Simply look at Alabama, a state identical to us in population and generally considered a football state, they just sold out their state championship at around 16,000 at the Birminghsm Civic Center. The TSSAA should wake up and have some guts to do their job.TSSAA will be voting on whether or not to split the public and private schools this summer. NOW is the time to write to them, email them, or phone them! Don't complain about this obviously UNFAIR advantage the recruiting schools have...do something and write them!
By the way, after God gave Seattle that miracle catch at the end of the Superbowl and saw what they did next (throwing the ball for an interception!) He no longer is involved in helping anyone win games...not even the Bible quoting schools.
Using Bible quotes to evade the real issue...the unfair advantage private schools have, especially in single A, isn't an argument for allowing private school recruiting.

It amazes me that the TSSAA turns a blind eye to all of this. It is terrible on the girls side. Much worse than the boys in my opinion. But the TSSAA will not enforce their rules. They only cater to one sport and we know what that is. They will come closer to ruling a kid ineligible who makes a move by the book for the right reasons than an ever doing the same for a kid whose move is shady and done because of recruiting. From what I have seen they are a joke.
When they actually do something for other sports and try to enforce the rules that are on the books, I will start attending the TSSAA tournament events again, until then I am on strike. They never listen to the member coaches or schools about anything other than football. Just do your jobs and end this crap that CPA and other schools like them do!

I would say your sippin too much of Lynchburg's finest!!Going out on a limb, MC and MTCS for the title. MC took Community to OT earlier this year, I believe, and that may give them enough confidence to pull it off.

This is always an outstanding weekend of basketball. By far one of the best of its kind in the country. I was told the Hotel Preston is very close to sold out again so if coaches haven't reserved a room they better do it quick.

Pujo to really see what is the justification and then see if its warranted....I know there is alot of passion from alot of people but you truly need to know if it is the right thing to do and to be honest winning championships can't be the reason, but I know you know that...again I don't care but it seems to me that there needs to be a better reason to split them than who wins championships...today Boyd will play in its first ever state tourney in boys basketball and they have been a private a long time, so maybe just maybe its not that big of advantage as some make it out to be, but more the effect of a few bad apple privates that has a bad taste in some good ol boy publics hearts..I'm Just sayin!pretty
pretty sure Boyd Buchanon
won the state in 1996 and runnerup in1988
