  1. Big and not so fast line? First of all, Powell is running a 3-4 with the Dt and two DEs. I wouldn't exactly call Lee Smith and Justin Galyon slow for DEs. Cody Watts is one of the most gifted athletes I have seen, but I believe his leadership is his best quality. Just watching the scrimage against Fulton, he took control of the team. He is a very vocal leader who will back up what he says. Cody Watts is amazing, but he is most definitely not the offense. Powell has three backs that bring three different running styles. Jay Courtney is one of the hardest running backs in East Tennessee, Josh Huffaker has amazing vision combined with sick quickness, and they have a sophomore who is a combination of the two. Cody Watts won't have to carry the load because the running game could do it by themselves. Cody watts does have a good receiving core with Thrower and Widener at wideout and Smith and Galyon at tight end. I believe many people will get used to hearing some other names along with Cody Watts after this game is over. The only question for powell is their Defensive secondary, if they can keep Webb on the ground it could get ugly. Powell 35 Webb 14
  2. little info on the game for you mocs. Karns has NO posts. That is simply how it went for them. Ben and Lee dominated down low, Karns could simply not stop them. I can not understand why in the world Karns did not try a zone atleast once during the game. There was no way they had a chance going man on man with lee and ward. As for fersner, Powell played man the entire game. Ward started out on Fersner , which I personally thought would be a disaster, and shut him down. Fersner looked like a completely different player from last year in this game. He looked hesitant to pull the trigger, as of last year he would have pulled it from 5 feet behind the arc. Truth is Powell did a great job with help side D and ward kept his feet moving. I was pretty impressed with this being my first game, but i must confess, Powell MUST start getting some gaurd play. I didn't know that hargis got in double figures, that mus have all happened in the last 2 minutes. I think there was only one field goal by a guard in the first half. Powell will be in trouble if they cannot get some help from the guards.
  3. I sould be there for the game tonight, who do you guys think will be playing fersner. I would put ward because of his height, but he is just to slow for fersner. Could we possibly see the ole' box in one? I remeber we pulled it out against him once last year. Anyway, it will be my first time watching them this year, so i'm hoping for a good game.
  4. Thanks for the report mocs, when is the next game, I hope to make it.
  5. I think migi needs to see more minutes. Definitely on the court the whole game because of his lack of offense, but migi is one of the best defenders i have seen and played against. The only problem is that he gets a lot of illegitimate fouls called on him because of his reaching. Nobody has said much about Ward. Has he not led them in scoring in every game this year? He has improved incredibly over the past four years, and in my opinion has the best shot on the team. I believe Powell will make region this year. They will need some shooters to step up, either conner or hargis, and need lee to shoot atleast 500 free throws .
  6. well coach liked to call me gallynipper
  7. You are right, Powell is slow especially with Hargis nursing that ankle. If Powell can stop Farragut's transition than they will have a good chance of pulling this one out. Powell's size is to much for Farragut. Poor Bosh is gonna get banged on tonight. Mocs, who will be playing the 2 and 3 i know conner will probably be on one of them. Hargis, addis, conner, ward, lee? Is that how it is going to go? I think they need to look to get Thrower into the mix tonight because they will need his speed, just might take him a while to get the plays down since coming in from football. How is conner's conditioning this year? Will he be able to put in 3 strong quarters? I don't believe I will make it to tonight's game so cheer them on for me.
  8. Don't make excuses about maryville playing a bad game, because powell played a really bad game also. I was a little worried about my withing 10 points call, but powell covered me second half. I guess jay went out and showed that he not only could take some hits but give some, even though nobody expected him to be (running) on the offensive side of the ball. I thought the refs did an overall well job tonight, powell just made some really bad mistakes. I would like to apologize for a select few of our fans who were REDICULOUS tonight. But congrats to the rebels and I plan on cheering you guys on next week against central.
  9. Here is some rushing facts: Yards Attempts Avg. Cody Watts 876 138 6.3 Ryan Tallent 752 90 8.4 Josh Huffaker 713 116 6.1 Antonio Byner 631 84 7.5 Adrian Baker 351 39 9.0 Ryan Singleton 330 52 6.3 Sure the Rebels have a lot better ypc, and overall with their multiple back output I would say that have a better rushing game, but to say that Powell has NO running game is just ignorant. The numbers speak for themselves. I believe you were basing your comment on soley the Maryville/Powell game where powell did have no running game apart from a solid running night from your quarter back at 79 yards. It will be interesting tonight to see which powell running game shows up.
  10. There will be wet conditions which will go in Powell's favor. Maryville will have to run the ball more and powell's run D is defintely better than their pass D. The higher you lift them, the harder they'll fall.
  11. Brandon Thrower from Powell. This sophomore can flat out fly. He has over 450 receiving yards on the year. Cleveland talked all last week about how fast of a team they were. First play of the game Thrower took a five yard stop route, and out-ran the whole cleveland secondary for a 70 td.
  12. I'll guarantee you one thing, the game will be close. The loser will be within 10 points of the winner.
  13. There is hardly a team that come's close to Jody's team's D.
  14. I seriously doubt that the panthers will be intimidated. I know for a fact that their offensive (Watts) and defensive (Huber) will not be the least intimidated. Should they? . . . maybe but Cody is not scared of anyone as you can tell by some of the runs he has made this year, and I'm sure not going to tell Huber to his face that he is scared of Maryville, he better be headed for Carson Newman instead of Alabama if he is intimidated by Maryville. but i've said it before and I will continue to say it up to gametime, all I want is a good game, good luck to all!
