  1. Coach Connell, I can't find the brackets on your site. SB
  2. Gatling- I assume this is your little brother. Is he a MidSouth wrestler? What is his name? Are you saying he is the best 135-140 8th grader in the state?
  3. rcpatriot- I certainly don't mean to slight those kids from your part of the state but the top kids are head and shoulders above the rest. Both Union Co and South Doyle will be at Bradley this weekend. Brentwood and Maryville will be there, so we will see at 4 of the top 8 or 9 152's in the state. At 160 Gibson is an animal and Orr whipped everybody at the Blackhorse. Walkenvol- Thanks for the McCallie info. We can't keep up with you guys. Next week Silberman will be at 160 and Smith will be at 119...LOL Rabbit- Team rankings ----whew! I have Bradley and McCallie one and two. After that it is anybody's guess. DII MBA - At one time I thought they could give McCallie a run because of the upper weights but they have not been impressive. FR - I thought they were a year away but they have been killing people. Pat Simpson is a good coach and I am sure they will improve. We will see how much. Baylor - They are better than I thought. They had a good showing at the Pilot Tourney. DI Cleveland - They have been up and down. They are good but I haven't fiqured out how good. An upset of Bradley in the Region is not out of the question. Soddy - Much the same story as Father Ryan. They are well coached and are improving. We will have to wait and see how much. East Ridge - Bird not in the line up hurts. They were my early pick to challenge Soddy for the Region crown. Science Hill - A good team but weak at a few weights. Clarksville - Solid team with several great wrestlers. I am not sold on them yet. They can win in the early season by out muscling people but we have yet to see if they can out wrestle the elite teams in the state. I have them with as many as 4 in the Finals. The question is can they find 4 or 5 more that can beat Bradley or Soddy. The thing to keep in mind when trying to figure out rankings is head to head match ups in a Dual. Last year Soddy won the toss against Bradley and got the matchups they wanted plus a couple of critical pins. Bradley came back in the Traditional and blew everybody away. So which team was better? I certainly don't know. For now, I will stay with Bradley and McCallie. 67BJ8- We are very much aware of Musser. He will be at Bradley this weekend. We were waiting to see how he did there.
  4. The SS has put together an updated ranking with a new twist. From now on only wrestlers which we feel have a chance to wrestle in the State Finals will be ranked. If there is only one ranked wrestler, then your guess is as good as ours. Time will tell. This will cause a stir. Here you go. 5. Now your talking. Wrestling, beer and women in shorts. It doesn't get much better than that.
  6. AGAIN - I try to stay out of this and I am. This is my last comment on the subject. I DID NOT say the Bradley tournament had a better overall field than the McCallie Tournament. My comments were in regard to TENNESSEE wrestlers only. Walkenvol - call Coach Logsdon. Convince him to combine the tournaments into one at UTC. Bradley usually has around 20 teams and McCallie has 24. Another 20 would probably come. We could have 14 full 64 man brackets with no pigtails and full wrestle backs for 8 places. Bradley and McCallie could split the money. It would certainly be one of the top tournaments in the country. It could be called the Silverbullet Invitational. It has a nice ring to it...don't you think? [Edited by Silverbullet on 12-16-02 11:56A]
  7. PART 4 The strength of both Bradley and Cleveland again points out the need to enlarge the State Duals to a 16 team field for DI and 8 teams for DII. The top two teams from each region should be allowed to compete. The TSSAA is crying for money and putting 24 teams at MTSU for 3 days would be a money maker for sure. With 7 of the SILVERBULLET #1 ranked wrestlers and the #1 and #2 ranked teams, the Cleveland Duals was worth every penny of my $8.00. I would suggest replacing a couple of the weaker teams with a Grundy, VA or another nearby high powered team. Bradley should be very good next year...... lets find out how good. It was a great tournament. My congrats to Cleveland and to Bradley.
  8. PART 3 Farragut received a strong performance from Jeff Periera - 215. He scored a 12-8 decision over #1 ranked Josh Bonham of Cleveland. I look for a rematch in the state semis or finals. Franklin came into the tournament with only one loss in 14 matches but quickly discovered Bradley was a little better than thier previous thirteen opponents. Highly ranked Bond Davis-140 was handled fairly easily by Creagan. Franklin did manage to get victories at 112 and 125 but were on the wrong end of a pin or tech fall in 9 matches. Franklin couldn't get it going against Cleveland either. The Rebels won at 140(Davis), 125(Felix) and 112(Ortiz) but were again bitten by the pin bug getting stuck 10 times. Both Davis and Ortiz should be state medalists with outside shots at the finals.
  9. PART 2 For those wondering when the Bradley train may run out of gas, it won't be next season. The current lineup is junior dominated led by 160 lb Quinn Gibson. The 2003-4 team may have as many as 10 senior starters. However, Soddy and Clarksville shouldn't start licking thier chops for the 2004-5 season. The Bradley people tell me the future is bright with a stable full of good wrestlers. Although beaten by a very good and defending Georgia state champion Collins Hill, the Cleveland Blue raders are a very good team and derserve a very high ranking. They are led by seniors Nathan Jones at 171 and Josh Bonham at 215. Cleveland could land as many as 4 in the state finals. [Edited by Silverbullet on 12-16-02 10:41A]
  10. PART 1 I made the trip to the Cleveland Duals on Saturday. Bradley once again proved the machine is well oiled and in gear to make another run at a state title. Though there are a few new names in the lineup that do not strike fear in the hearts of opponents, they are rock solid from top to bottom with several capable JV wrestles like heavyweight Shaun Grady. This will pose a serious problem for teams like Cleveland, Clarksville and Soddy who have bumped around in the past to try to get favorable matchups against the Bears. Barring Injury, Bradley looks to have a legit shot at landing as many as 9 in the State Finals. Michael Creagn at 140, Dustin Catlett at 152 and Quinn Gibson at 160 will each make a run at OW honors. I personally favor Gibson. He is unbelieveable and will certainly be one of the all time great wrestlers from Tennessee before he makes some college coach happy. Gibson was voted OW in his pool while Bradley's 103, Blake Tinsley, was voted MVP of the tournament. [Edited by Silverbullet on 12-16-02 10:38A]
  11. Rabbit- Don't be offended. I was just picking at you. Your were a good wrestler on a good team with a good coach. On the Cordell-James thing.......we will not know for sure until the state tourement(s). Kyle is very good and so is Shaun.
  12. I try to stay on the sidelines on this debate but messages like yours really burn me. I've talked to enough Bradley people to come to understand that part of the reason Bradley chooses not to wrestle McCallie is the pompus attitude of "some" of thier supporters. I have also taked to enough McCallie people to know that most of them have respect for Bradley and what they have accomplished. As far as you slamming Bradley's tournament; you may want to use part of that McCallie education and check your math. In last years' Mccallie tournament there were 17 eventual Tennessee placewinners including 5 champions and 3 runnner ups. In last years' Bradley Invitational; there were 19 eventual Tennessee placewinners including 6 champions and 5 runner ups. SB
  13. Rabbit- I saw you wrestle and there were a few times I wondered if you knew anything about wrestling. Shaun is a 2 time champ and Kyle has one. Until they wrestle or one stumbles like Danny Coleman of Cleveland, Cordell will retain the top spot. I agree with you on Paul Campbell. He is tough as nails. I ranked him 4th at 171 to begin the season behind 3 former place winners. I currently have him at 3rd at 189 behind Freel and Davis. Freel is wrestling this weekend at Bradley and Campbell is at McCallie. We'll see how it turns out.
  14. Looks like Cleveland was fortunate that McCallie didn't bring thier best lineup. It could have gotten ugly. There has to be some reasonable explanation for Coleman's loses to Manson and White. These boys are good wrestlers but no one would have predicted this. Is he sick or hurt or cutting too much weight or in love or what?
  15. Seeding only matters to those wrestling for 2nd.

  17. Cornpop- Let me get this straight. You are saying any wrestler not in high school should only wrestle in a short season and in only a few tournaments. Then you should be happy living in Tennessee and overjoyed at both the quality and quantity of wrestling. In March you may want to take a trip to Chattanooga to witness the Challenge Cup. There will be youth teams from all over the country. New Jersey will have a team there. They will have a different team compete in the Middle School Duals in VA and a third team will wrestle in the AAU Disney Duals in Orlando. The Disney Duals are in the summer and those kids on those teams will have wrestled 75 or 100 matches or more. States like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio will select their teams from hundreds and hundreds of wrestlers. Tennessee will pick from dozens. Most every major sport is a pyramid of participation. Take baseball for instance. How many gajillion kids play youth baseball? Each year a kid moves up the number of participants drops but the quality goes up. Wrestling is no different. Why do states like California, Florida, Louisiana and Texas produce so many Major League baseball players? Because they have the greatest numbers of youth players. Why is wrestling so good in the Midwest and Northeast? Because they have they greatest number of youth wrestlers. Why does Chattanooga/Cleveland and Nashville dominate TN high school wrestling? Lots of youth wrestling. What is the recipe for a successful high school wrestling program? 1) large well run youth program 2) good middle school program 3) good coaching at all levels 4) large number of year round wrestlers at ALL ages It is an age old saying but it is true, Summer wrestlers make winter Champions and..... REFTN- I'm still waiting on an answer to my question. [Edited by Silverbullet on 12-4-02 5:43P]
  18. I know these two (Manson and Coleman) young men. Cory is a very good wrestler but beating Coleman is a big accomplishment. Danny is one of a group of very good wrestlers in the state regardless of class. The January 2nd rematch should be interesting. For now it sheds an entirely new light on both the DI and DII rankings. Manson will move up behind Dunning in DII. Coleman will hang onto the top spot in DI for now. Cleveland has a tough December schedule...we will see. By the way...Will someone please post the complete reults of the Southern open?
  19. reft- Just my six cents....the Middle School State might be interesting to think about but it has no chance. No money and even less coaching. Also you give kudos to LD and the TWF. Please tell me what either has done for youth wrestling in Tennessee. TNwrestling - I interpret your post to say...They are just kids...Lets keep it fun...If you have Middle School wrestling, kids will cut weight. I'm sorry, that's a bunch of hogwash. Is your name Hillary Clinton?
  20. Thanks Cole, I haven't seen him in a couple of years but I have heard good things. Do you have a clue about his weight?
  21. No....there is no central location for schedules. Seems it would be a great thing for a McCallie student to do (hint) and put the master schedule up on McCallie's website. Here is what I have on FR and FRA. Also I'm pretty sure there were matches at Lebanon, MBA, Overton, Page, Riverdale and Ooltewah.
