  1. Community Service is a wonderful way to teach humility and actual service that can help folks that really needs it.  Also promotes teamwork and strength and conditioning in this instance!

Now all Franklin County needs is an Administration to quit trying to tell the Coach, who, what, when, and why!  They should be happy running the school and NOT the various sports programs.

  2. Well, well, well.................I neglect to look at the board a couple of days to go and play with the new Grand Daughters and all heck breaks loose in Ruth Co.

Spring ball should be real interesting.  Game between Blackman and R'dale should be fun to!

Now all I want to know is Blackman going to give us a game this year?

  3. What I wanted was a Coach that could have handled a 100+ kid program.  That amount of kids simply over whelmed Coach Aydelott.

Yes, I would have liked Crawford back or Coach Olive from Tullahoma.  Coach A was simply over his head though.

The Coach search was simply botched by a Principal that was over his head and was too stubborn to admit it while he was still coasting/working.  Coach A was a easy fast fix for a problem the Principal knew nothing about as was shown by the Principals losing record as a Coach!

This was a fun thread to read through. The old posts and the ones from recent months.

The list obviously starts with George Quarles and Gary Rankin for obvious reasons.

In my opinion though, this list of coaches can run deep. With all due respect to coach Quarles and coach Rankin, there’s been a lot of great coaches over the years that coached at much smaller schools with less talent, and the win loss record will never tell the full story for how good those coaches are. I still want to be clear, though, and say those two guys are still phenomenal football coaches that should still be ranked one and two no matter what.

Other great coaches that come to mind for me:

    Clint Satterfield - Trousdale County

    Bobby Sharp - Lewis County

    Jeff Porter - White House

    Mac McCurry - Moore County/Marion County/Marshall County/Franklin County

    Roger Perry - Portland

    Ron Aydelott - Riverdale/Hillsboro

    Thomas McDaniel - Oakland/Christian Brothers

Jackie Bennett - Page (Short run but very good coach. If other circumstances did not require his early retirement he would have kept things rolling at Page).

Ron Aydelott!  HA, you are kidding right?

Got lucky one year at Hillsboro when he did not have to play Quarles and won ONE Gold Ball with an all star team from METRO Nashville.

R'dale he took one of the Best programs in the State and destroyed it over a 10 year period where a GOOD Principal would have fired him in year 5!

Now is Coaching a Middle School or is it a Pee Wee team?

  5. OK I like Murfreesboro for the following reasons.

    1.  It is the exact geographical center of the state.

    2.  Plenty of places to eat, sleep, and play.

    3.  FREE parking and plenty of it.

    4.  While trafic is now a pain in the butt for natives, it is no where as bad as it is in the cities.

    5.  Stadium is big and spacious with an artificial field.

Now what is y'alls logical and not emotional reasons for your choice of location.

BTW if you want a cake selection like was shown, you only have to go about 8 blocks away from MTSU to 'Jeff's'.

I think they’ll be a darn good team this coming season. Freshman teams have been solid to good the last couple years. They should be able to finish second and give Oakland a solid challenge. I think it’s tough to expect them to beat Oakland this year, but a competitive game where they lose by 10-17 would still be a good showing against that program right now. Regardless, Kriesky and his staff have done a fantastic job building that program back up and they are becoming a competitive team again.

I never say how much we will LOSE by!  That kind of attitude causes you to lose even before you play the game.

If our lines are big and strong and we do not have to play them both ways, then we have an honest shot at beating Oakland THIS year.

Now we just have to get the boys in the weight room so we will have MEN playing in the fall!

It’s going to be interesting to see how things shake out for this program.

The new choice for the head coach brought mixed reviews when he was hired, from what I remember. Year 2 will be a big year for further instilling his coaching style and leadership principles into the program and helping them improve. Hopefully he’s ready for the challenge. I always hope for the best when a hometown guy is the head coach of their school. We need more of that in this state.

Bigger question is the Principal going to stay out of it and NOT tell the Coach who to play.................FINALLY!

  8. Coach Olive is respected by LOTS of folks in this State he does not know about.

For me it is because of a couple assistant Coaches he has hired over the years.

The second reason is for having a really good Booster Club that turns out some of the best Hamburgers at a concession stand I have ever eaten.

  9. Scharsch-Coach that talked the 'clone' into coming out for football.

Wyant-Coach that took the weight room program to Shad at Smyrna.  Also the best 'recruiting' coach R'dale had.  Did an outstanding job at Siegel with the talent he had.

Ron Crawford did an excellent job training Tom McDaniel.

Crawford and Britton both were Coaches that got torpedoed by Rankin at schools he did NOT want them getting and competeing with him IN Region.  Crawford at Blackman and Britton at Siegel!

Wasn’t he also getting zone exemptions like Riverdale got under Rankin?  That probably had a little to do with both having success.

Yes and a QB and a receiver that was 'supposed' to be zoned for LaVergne.

There's also only 8 teams in West TN in 6A, so of course Middle TN is gonna have the leg up. White Station has won a title more recently than Germantown, who hasn't been past the quarters in over 15 years

And whos fault is it there are so few alloted to the West vs the East?

  12. The main reason the other schools in the Region are not as strong is exactly that.  None of the other schools in the region have the weight room work ethics both Oakland and R'dale have.  The two years Coach Shad won while he was at Smyrna is because he had a Coach from R'dale that brought the weight room program there.  It didn't continue at either Smyrna or Blackman after he left.
