  1. Another note on Megan Lyons here! I have watched her play basketball for a while now and I really honestly don't think I have ever seen her get upset over anything. I know she has a fire and her motor runs all the time but if a call goes against her or something does not go her way, I have never seen her do anything out of line. Not everyone does but this is another quality that she has that impresses me. She just goes about her business and she does her business well. I really feel if she was just a little taller she could play anywhere in the country and make headlines wherever she went.

The Redd girl from Elizabethton is also highly talented. A couple of girls from Pigeon Forge are talented as well . Girls basketball in East Tennessee is really good right now!

  2. May be some inner turmoil going on there due to the fall out of coach Ricker. If these girls can keep their heads on straight and get a little direction from Coach Jones they could still be an impact team this season. South Greene girls basketball is a long standing tradition!

  3. Special thoughts go out to Ashley Deans who tore her ACL and will have surgery on December 30th. She was playing really good basketball and was in the starting rotation when she went down. She will be missed as the Lady Devils work their way through the season. Good luck and hope for a speedy recovery for Ashley!

  4. Science Hill press worked wonders in the second half, but I can imagine with a starting guard on the bench and our big man hobbled by what they thought was a broken ankle could make a difference with that. Science Hill has a good team but I really think Greeneville can play with them. Holding Science Hill to 44 points means Greeneville did a pretty good job on defense. Game was rough and very physical. I look for these teams to meet a couple more times down the road. How many points did OMAR have last night, he is pretty good! Good luck Science Hill, See you in February!
  5. I heard one the other night at a game that caught my ear. One team started the we got spirit yes we do we got spirit how bout you, then the other team (who was winning) came back with "we got more points yes we do we got more points what happened to you! Keep your spirit! It was kinda funny.

  6. I think it is a sad situation when a kid might have a shot at a scholarship but the coach of another sport he/she is playing won't let them get involved in that camp or whatever it might be where they have a chance to be looked at. In a situation last year a baseball scout came to talk with a player but the basketball coach would not let him talk to the scout. I believe that the student interest should come first even though it may be during basketball season. And you are right these youngsters are only going to be in high school once.

  7. Coach Ricker was liked (loved) by many. Coach Ricker was disliked by many. But just like Dale Earnhardt put it at least they know about him. No doubt Coach Ricker was an awesome coach. No doubt some things happened that should not have happened. No doubt that Girls High School Basketball in Tennessee has lost a great coach and a leader. Like him or not like him he was good. I was watching a game at Unicoi County once and some of the Unicoi County fans were talking about the way he acted and treated his girls but what they did not see was how their coach was doing the same exact things. Fact is Coach Ricker was good and Coach Ricker knew it! Hate to see him gone but what is done is done! Coach T, I know it has been talked about a lot but in Tennessee High School basketball, this is a major story. Good luck to Coach Ricker!

  8. I agree with you one hundred percent rebel mom. I remember when they played six on six basketball (showing my age) at South Greene and although they won no state titles they have always been very tradition rich with their program. I also agree that he has gone through some troubling times lately and hopefully he can take this time and adjust his agressions and begin to straighten out his judgement problems. Of course I have heard horror stories from some of the girls as to things that have happened in the past concerning some of the punishments handed out. I hope things work out! Any word on who will coach for the interim period?????

  9. Sad ending to a great run. I really hate to see his coaching at South Greene end in this manner. He was a great coach and knew the game as well as any person I have ever known or been around. He will be missed in the South Greene basketball community. He will still be teaching at the school and nothing has been reported on his football coach status. Upon talking to some of the girls who have played for him in the past, they hated him when they played for him because he was so tough but they had respect and admiration for him when their playing days were through. Some did not like his demeanor or some of his ways of coaching and actions but he had a deep passion for the game.

  10. Coach Ricker has officially resigned. He will remain at the school as a wellness teacher. Nothing was mentioned about his status as football coach. This is truly a sad time for South Greene girls basketball. Coach Ricker set high standards and has had great success. This is a storied program and very tradition rich. Good luck to Coach Ricker and here is hoping that whoever carries on with this program keeps up what has been started. He will be missed but to my understanding he was his own undoing.

  11. Don't know much about it yet, just rumors and I understand that everything will come out in time. I hate to say much about it because it sounds like a mess and I hate it for the South Greene team. If they do have a change in coaching the new person will have an awesome team in the very near future. There are some really good kids in the feeder program which will again have them at the top.

  12. I have not seen Jeff County this season yet, but I watched them last year against Greeneville and in the tournaments. They have a very good team, but Greeneville has a very good team too. This game should be fantastic and my personal opinion says that if Manual brings her A game (And a good attitude) to the game, Greeneville will have the upper hand but if she plays in one of her bad attitudes it could be a long night, Greeneville really needs her to play (not just be there) on Tuesday night. This should be a great one!

  13. Nothing against Sullivan Central but I watched them play in a scrimmage against Greeneville and they lost. I watched them play South Greene in a scrimmage and they won by four. I don't see how you would rank them # 1. As for DB always a powerhouse and Science Hill as well. I think like in college a team is ranked on reputation this early in the season. As time goes on we will see more about who is at the top and the bottom of the rankings.

  14. In the Clinton game the other night, Tracy Champion, a senior force in the paint was absent and not at the game. His grandfather in Chicago passed away and he was there with his family. The Greene Devil family's thoughts go out to him and his family. He should be back for their game Saturday. Also B.J. Washington was injured during the game. As of now not sure how serios the injury to his ankle is!

  15. I think this game might be a good one. I have not seen Maryville play this year but we (Greeneville) played at Central and I know they played very poorly against us. We also scrimmaged against Tennessee High, which they pretty much wore us out. After that scrimmage I said that I was looking forward to going to the Maryville-Tennessee High game in late November. I am planning on attending and I hope it is a good show. My guess is Maryville 31 Tennessee High 24. I think the Rebels have played a tougher schedule this season but that does not always equal a win. Good luck to both teams and I hope they put on a good show!

  16. Watched them scrimmage Daniel Boone and Sullivan Central on Saturday and they did not really play very good in the scrimmage against Daniel Boone but they still won by four or five points. Then in the afternoon game against Central they played much better and won by six or eight. Central looks like a very good team! The devils should have some depth this year and foul trouble should not completely take them out of games! Good luck Big Greene!
