  1. Good Luck Greene Devils! I hope they can bring home the gold. They have a fantastic shot and I hope they are ready to play Saturday! And why all the hate from Alcoa? I would feel honored to have a program like Alcoa or Maryville and have everyone in the state wanting to have a program such as that. Noone can argue with success and those two schools are very successful. I think most Greeneville fans would absolutely love to win A gold ball, then maybe another but dang I would hope that everyone in the Eastern part of the state would be rooting for each other. And it is not like they are bitter rivals either. Could Greeneville beat Alcoa THIS year? Maybe, Maybe Not but one thing is for sure.....................we are never gonna know for sure are we? Good Luck At The Championships To Alcoa, Greeneville, & Maryville Hope all three bring home the gold!
  2. Personally I think if Gibbs had not turned the ball over on their first drive it might have been a different game. They moved the ball well between the 20's. Hibbett is pretty much a stud, I left the game very impressed with him. I felt the QB was pretty good too, he seemed to have trouble keeping his emotions in check. I think Greeneville would have won the game either way because Gibbs really did not do a lot to show me they could stop the Greeneville offense. But if not for Gibbs shooting themselves in the foot a few times it probably would have been a much closer game. Greeneville is pretty darn good......good enough? Time will tell. I sure hope they can FINISH!
  3. This should be a good game. I give the edge to Greeneville if it comes down to special teams play. However I really don't know a whole lot about the Jefferson County kicker, so maybe that is a bit out of line. I do know that Ogle is a good one. I am sure both teams will get after it tonight and give the fans a great show.
  4. That is why they have playoffs. Not always the teams with the best record wins. The Red Sox win the World Series in 2004 as a wild card team. It has happened in the NFL also that a team has won the championship as a wild card. Underdogs win at times.............as my wife always says...........Thats why they play the games. As for the game Saturday I am looking forward to a good game, both teams deserve this honor by winning their playoff games. Greeneville is scrappy and will not back down as I am sure Giles Co. is the same way. And to have never played in the football championships this is a very exciting time for Greeneville High School and its fans!
  5. Personally I felt that West Greene would win this one. When the game started they took the ball right down the field and scored passing and running the ball. Then they just started sparring against each other and the game took a feel of watch out for the one big play to tie the game but that really never happened either.......Grainger had a good long drive and finally stuck it in the end zone.Just seemed like the Buffs could not put anything together after the first drive. It was a good ballgame to watch, good crowd and good football atmosphere. And just my take on things but I would like to see all the teams from Greeneville/Greene County do well against out of county teams. Hats off to Grainger County for hanging in and pulling this game out at the end.
  6. Tennessee High and Greeneville used to play every year. I would say Greeneville has played Tennessee more than they have Mo East or Mo West. Greeneville All Time Results: Vs. Tennessee High 44 Games 15-26-3 Vs. Morristown East 36 Games 22-14 Vs. Morristown West 35 Games 13-22 From Greenevillefootball.com
  7. First of all.......Grey Rider.....please spell GreenEville right, I know we may not deserve your respect but it would be nice to have it correct. Thanks! Now as I have been reading and my opinion on the matter is that if a team has won 73 straight games they have earned the right to be a little cocky and arrogant. Not to a point of being obnoxious but they should have that swagger about them. I really do not knock Maryville at all for that! Just think about it, these young men have not lost in their entire high school career. Therefore they must be pretty darn good and we all know that they are very well coached. On Friday nights after the games and listening to the scores I always listen for the Maryville score and I hope they win, I think the winning streak is awesome. I did however root against them when they have played teams from upper east tennessee in the playoffs just because they are from our region. If they beat Greeneville I will be rooting for them to win again. And personally I would think that if Greeneville was to knock them off that they would be hoping that Greeneville would win. I hope to see a great game, I know that it may be the most excitement at ole GHS since the last time they played DB or the Elizabethton game when Jason Witten was with them. Good luck and to the Maryville faithful making the trip, be careful and we will see you on Friday night!
  8. Personally speaking as to the questions about the crowd against Sullivan South? Greene County has four high schools other than Greeneville and not a lot of their fans go to a Greeneville game to watch them play. There are not a lot of them who really care enough about Greeneville to support them. Also the cold weather did play some factor into it. I dont think Coach McCurry will let the Devils live on a high note from the South game because not only he but everyone knows that the task at hand is like trying to move a mountain with a hoe and shovel. It is gonna be TOUGH. I am not gonna say it can not happen but it will be difficult and I am sure that they understand that and noone has to tell them. Congrats to the Greene Devils, the coaches have done a great job keeping this bunch focused after all that they have gone through. Lets give it to Maryville and make them earn it Friday night. Good Luck! To Charlie Arrington: Man you are in college how can you afford to buy someone a cheeseburger at the game, LOL
  9. In my personal opinion I feel that Coach Crumbley has done a good job. Has there been times that I have wondered why she did this or why she didn't do that??? Sure as I have coached and am a basketball observer but I used to wonder why this college coach did this or that as well. Even when coach burkey was here I would do the same with him. And being tough on the girls heck ask someone who played for coach Larry Ricker if he was tough on them. If you talk to them while they played for him most would probably say they really did not like him BUT when they got finished with their playing career (high school) most would say they loved and admired the man. Most of those girls would do anything for him. Sure Coach Crumbley has had some talent but even a really good coach has to have talent to win. The coaching staff has a great record and I look for it to improve over the next couple of years, sure they may not always go to the state tourney or even win the district but I can remember a time when Greeneville girls basketball was not even thought about. Keep up the good work ladies you are doing a good job.
  10. South Greene with only one senior looks pretty sharp. Only thing that concerns me is they really do need to stay out of foul trouble, not sure about the depth. It may be good but I think it is unproven up to this point. I will say that people will not be taking them lightly wherever they play this year. Good luck Lady Rebels!
  11. Just FYI through 6 games the non d1 talent of Mr. Wiggins has these stats: 31.8 minutes per game 8.8 points per game 6.2 rebounds per game 1.5 steals per game 1.1 blocks per game not to shabby for a non d1 player I am a Greeneville fan however unlike most county school fans, I root for the county schools in Greene County. I hope that Chuckey Doak has a great season as well as the rest of the county schools. And as far as the Watauga conference being better than the IMAC.......who really cares? At the end of the year they will not play each other in any tournament so why bicker about it?
  12. Congrats to the Falcons for a great season. Man you guys sure brought a lot of people to watch the game, great fan support. Great job Greeneville for overcoming a couple of first quarter interceptions and a bad call on an intentional grounding which was not.........but that point is not a point now...........Greeneville got the job done. Big play in the game 4 and about 2 near midfield and Tyler Stewart breaks the line untouched for a stop in the backfield. There was sure some hitting going on in the game. Great game for us fans to watch. Good luck next week Greeneville, work hard this week !
  13. I agree that a good game plan for Volunteer would be like Tennessee used against Arkansas last week, long drives take time off the clock and score every opportunity. Greeneville can not overlook anyone, heck noone gave the big orange a chance last week against Arkansas either but they pulled that one off. Cradic is a very impressive QB and does a lot of things for Volunteer at least the last time they came to Burley Stadium he did. Greeneville needs to control him and contain him at the very least. I agree that Greeneville did not play one of their best games last time they played but Volunteer might have had something to do with that as well. I am sure that the Coach will not let them overlook Volunteer. It is gonna be cold and damp Friday night, I hope the wet field does not slow the Greene Devils down and they can use their team speed to their advantage. I look for a good game on Friday heck anytime for get into the playoffs and into the second round you are doing something right. I hope both teams are injury free and play hard. GO DEVILS!
  14. In my opinion, a very dangerous opponent coming into Burley stadium Friday night. Gave the Devils all they wanted in the regular season. It was a very hard fought victory. I was disappointed in the turnout on Friday night at Burley Stadium also, I thought the place would be jumping. I know it was fairly cold and a little cold rain fell but a blanket and an umbrella or poncho would take care of that. Of course everyone could have gone to Fatz at halftime and enjoyed the rest of the evening. It was good to see the startes get some rest and let the reserves play some. Devils have got to take care of the football and not make mental mistakes, I believe they have the upper hand but it is not gonna be easy at all I don't believe. One week at a time Greeneville, one week at a time. Work hard, play hard and get it done!
  15. Well Pumpkinhead, you are right and wrong. East can win (but they didn't) and personally I am still waiting on them to show up because pesonally I did not think they were ready to play when the game started. And you are right about Greeneville not beating TN High (because they don't have to play them) and we will just have to wait and see about South on that prediction. Just kidding with you man. But what is up with South? Do they just let these teams get ahead of them and give them a feel that they are not really very good and then blow them up or what? Why have they been starting games so badly? Great win for Greeneville Friday night. Classy move at the end of the first half up 42-0 and almost 30 seconds left on the clock at the East 12 or so yard line and taking a knee. I think East may have underestimated Greeneville's team speed.
  16. Which is it gonna be pumpkinhead? They gonna lose next Friday as you first say or are they losing this Friday as your I still say East? Quit straddling the fence and make your bold prediction! I think Greeneville wins this week, however I dont think it will be an easy win. Next week will have to wait until after this week to see if they have won or not and who and how many injuries either team has for the next week.
  17. I will guarantee you that if it would have been possible for Kev-O to have played all four years of high school ball he would have played. He was a darn good player too. However things happen and he was unable to finish playing his high school career. Enough said! Now as for this conference this and this conference that... WHO CARES? All I know is that Greeneville play Sullivan East on Friday night and if they take care of business then they will get to play again next week. As for the playoffs a few years ago when East sent Greeneville on to basketball season well honestly a lot of the players were ready for it to be over and even talked more about the party after the game than about the game itself. Not an excuse just how it happened, not that they would have won the game anyway because East was pretty good that year. Good luck to both teams, I hope Greeneville wins but I hope noone gets injured on either team.
  18. West Greene will probably win this game, but they won't be the first of the two to get a win this year. North Greene won their game on Monday night that was postponed from last Friday. It will be good to see West Greene break their losing streak.
  19. All I wonder is why are people dogging the Phillips kid? He can play, he has committed to Wisconsin and he leads a pretty good team in South. (Personally I have not seen them this year) However last season they were pretty good. Greeneville is an improved team, Daniel Boone still beat Greeneville and has actually owned them over the past few years. I am a Greeneville fan and pull for them however I still don't like to see people get on here and get on players whether it be Phillips, Wattad, Wiggins just to name a few who have taken a lot on here. It might be different if these kids got on here and tooted their own horn talking about how good they are but I don't think that is the case. Anyway I hope this is a good game, I really feel it will be just because usually they are tight games between these two programs. Good luck to both but lets hope the Devils can pull an upset in their home opener.
  20. Thoughts and prayers need to go out to this family. God knows they need that right now. I can not imagine what it would be like to lose a son that was 20 years old. Chase was a tremendous person, he might have gotten caught up in doing some things that were not right or good for him but I will tell you people that the kid was a great person, always a smile on his face and always time to talk with people around him and always respectful to his elders. His father has been a great friend and mentor to GHS athletes for several years. As a parent I think everyone knows that people make mistakes but hope that their mistakes don't hurt them or have them end up in jail or god forbid that they end up dead. Hopefully his younger brother will take note of this and wake up. My thoughts and prayers go to the Greenway family for their loss.
  21. Congrats to Morristown West for winning the season and the tournament. Very good team! Also congrats to the big red of Cocke County for turning around a season and playing very well in the IMAC tourney. Beat Cherokee twice, Jefferson County and gave Morristown West pretty much all they wanted twice. Good luck to both teams in the regionals!
  22. West dominated Greeneville I agree. West is very talented and have some very good pitching, their hitters are patient and if you make a mistake they will make you pay. Seemed like when Greeneville made an error it was followed by a rally and runs runs runs. However I dont agree with the statement that every other district team has dominated them. Jefferson County beat them three games but the games were very good games, the first two could have gone either way and the third was 8-3, Greeneville took 2 of 3 from East and took 3 from Cocke County so I fail to see how that is domination.
  23. Who calls the pitches? Coach, Pitcher, Catcher who? That could play a role in that as well as location of the pitch. But even if the catcher calls for the ball outside and low it might come inside and high and if the hitter catches the mistake it could be sent long. Most homers are hit due to pitching mistakes or the hitter guessing the pitch anyway don't they?
  24. The kid had two knee surgeries on the same knee, injured it when the knee cap came out of place and went back in while playing summer ball. Had his knee scoped before his last season and had no cartlidge and was trying to play. Then over last summer he had donor bone and cartlidge put in his knee. In a scrimmage before the season he injured the other knee only not as serious as the other. His doctor told him that he would have to have surgery again but he would wait until after the season to do it. He loves the game but just has not had any luck with the injury deal.
