  1. 42-7 Alcoa I believe....Might have been 48...I was talking with someone in the final minutes lol

Alcoas offense moved the ball well against a much inferior defense. Scott had a few decent plays but stayed pretty meh against Alcoa's D. I saw Turbyfill go off at half with ice on his shoulder. Hopefully he's alright. I counted 7 players on the sidelines not dressed out...injuries I assume. Offense was opened up a little bit which was good. Seems like we went away from the Power I run it down your throat and used more of our speed on the corners which we should have been doing all along. Hopefully we can get some of the guys back from injuries for Greeneville next week.....Hopefully, Im able to make the trip as well.

Thanks a lot for the info.

  2. I believe that this will be a game that may come down to coaching. I think that there will be some major wrinkles in both teams play books and whoever executes more will come out the winner. I believe that on paper Maryville should be the favorite but the game is at Alcoa and our coaches will have our boys ready. Alcoa has to hit Robinette on almost every play because he can run. If they don't account for him he will kill us with his legs. The turnover battle will play into effect as well. Both teams have to protect the ball if they want to win. This should be a great game and I hope that it can live up to last years game which was the best high school football game that I have ever seen.

  3. I read an interesting article about how both of these two teams are refusing to play Alcoa. Signal Mountain is jumping up two classifications to avoid playing Alcoa and South Pittsburg is only going to have a nine game regular season because they are turning down there original agreement to play a home and home with Alcoa these next two years. The South Pitt coach said that he didn't want to get his kids beaten up right before the playoffs. The Sig Mnt coach said that instead of moving up to 3a from 2a he wanted to go ahead and move up two classifications because it gave his kids a better shot at winning a state championship. I found it odd that both these coaches would come out in an article and basically admit that they were scared to play a 3a school in Alcoa. If I were a player for either one of these teams and found out that my coach had been saying this stuff in a public article I would be extremely mad. A coach should never show any type of fear to his players even if it is a legitimate fear.

  4. Im starting to think people want Alcoa to move up so their team doesnt get slaughtered by them and they can enjoy football into the middle of November for once. Alcoa has already beaten arguably the best team in 6A. What more do you want? Oh yea, forgot we have to play Trinity, South Panola, Phoebus, De La Salle, Maryville, Hoover, North Gwinnett, and Oak Ridge and Farragut (because people actually think they're powerhouses for some reason even though neither has won a championship in what, 20 years?)

I know the only championships from around here in the past 10 years are alcoa, maryville, austin east, catholic, and fulton none of which won them in the highest classification. These so-called powerhouses havent even gotten that close either. I am sure that 6a, 5a, and 4a don't want anything to do with alcoa. They probably wouldn't let them in the higher classifications even if we wanted to go. I wish that we could get some regular season games with some better teams but the only good teams in higher classifications that are willing to play us are fulton and maryville. Props to both those squads for stepping up. I wish that there would be more that would put there big boy britches on and play us during the regular season. I think that it would be good for all of east tn football. So we will be in 3a as long as we are aloud. So all the other teams either get better and step up or move to a higher classification so you will not have to play us.

  5. Totally agree a-town. Last year our coaching staff didnt do too much to help Tallants passing average. We had a stud at tight end and hardly used him. Most all passes seemed to be homerun attempts. It would be nice to open up the short screens which should loosen up the defense and ease some of the pounding our linemen and backs take on every play. Although they were great running the ball, it would be nice to take some of the pressure off our running attack. I also got tired of hearing how one deminsional we were. Im not complaining, it was nice to pound the rock against everyone with total dominance. It has been nice watching the passing attack so far. I think there is much more to come! Go Tornadoes!!!

Yeah I am not complaining about our running dominance but i believe that we could be even better if we utilized our atheletes in the passing game as well. I think that Tallant is athletic enough to use him in some of the ways that Rankin used Cobb. Play action fakes and role outs. Get him on the move and allow him to throw while rolling out. He doesn't have to be a 5 step drop back passer. Just utilize the tight ends and ISOM. I wonder if he Tallent can throw a 10 yard out to isom or a hitch. I would love to see some more creativity. But I know that is not typically Rankins style. They would just be a more complete team. I love them though and love the way they win. No complaints about that. So if they can't be more creative and still win than stick to ole faithful and pound that rock.

  6. Loudon struggled with LC last week and we destroyed LC in a scrimmage(which i know scrimmages don't always tell the full story). So i believe that this year will be different than last year and we will dominate 49 to 7. We are way to big and strong and maybe we will get Isom involved a little. Talent needs to improve and the play calling needs to be set up to help him a little. I don't understand why they wont throw a quick slant or something to the tight end. They throw nothing around the middle of the field. Every pass shouldn't try to be a home run. They need to be a little more creative. I would suggest too that they find some way to get talent off of the field on D. He didn't do a very good job against maryville and needs to rest so he can be fresh for offense. Just my opinion what does everyone else think?

  7. What are they going to multiply us to Einstein? We just beat the probable 6A state champ this year. NCAA Div II?

Hahahaha. That return comment made me laugh out loud. What else do we have to do to shut this kind of crap up. This guy has no clue what he is talking about. Yeah move us up to 4a and we will do the same thing. Move us to the private league and we will do the same thing. The argument from this guy gets so OLD. We hear it over and over again every year. Thursday's game is the best Alcoa Maryville game ever. It was the best HS football game I have ever watched. Alcoa did look more physical than maryville. Maryville had a few more atheletes than I anticipated. Two great teams though and it would look great if maryville one the 6a state. I think that alcoa is going to go 15 and 0 once again for number 7 in a row. Very impressive and GREAT GAME.

  8. Yeah I hope that it will be a good game. I think it will but Alcoa has too much for the red rebels. Next year though I think will be a different story. I am excited to see the 2 best programs in the state go head to head. The best display of HS football in tennessee all year.

  9. Well its Alcoa vs Maryville week finally. I can't wait until thursday to see if Alcoa can repeat for once. I believe that we have a great shot this year to beat them again. Alcoa has great coaching, great strength, great atheletes, great experience, and great disclipline. With all these components put together they make a tough opponent for anyone in any classification. I believe that Maryville will not have the toughness to match Alcoa for the second straight year. I think that Maryville is still too inexperienced and not having a proven qb hurts there chances as well. Both coaches are great and I wouldn't hesitate to say that they are the best 2 in the state. So it will come down to the players and who wants it more. I think that Alcoa will win by 2 tds and if there passing game is firing on all cylinders than I believe 3 or more. But we will see. Thats why they play the game right. I would like to get some other opinions about the big game so feel free to chime in.

  10. Is Maryville tough enough? That is the question. Last years game proved that they weren't tough enough up front and over all to get the job done. It was a reversal of roles last year. In years past Alcoa wasn't tough enough to beat Maryville. I truely think that the team who wants it the most and is tough enough to go through some pain will win. I believe that there is not hardly a nickles difference between GQ and Rankin. By far the best 2 coaches in the state. I believe it will come down to the players. I believe that Alcoa is going to win by a couple of td's because I don't think that Maryville will be able to match the physicality of Alcoa. But we will see on Thursday. I believe that the qb for Maryville whoever it is will not have time to look down field to complete many passes bc of the pass rush that Alcoa will put on. It will be interesting also to see if Tallent for alcoa can throw the ball this year. If our passing game is good than we will win by 3 or more tds. Go Alcoa.

  11. I feel better now. :flower: Hope you guys are still going to play the National Weather Service Tornado Warning again this year, thats cool. I think some of the Alcoa faithfull probably expanded on the Elizabethton Cyclone wind noise idea. Always have fun when we come to Alcoa, just wish we could make it a bit more exciting into the 4th qtr. Good luck this year and we'll see you at the end of the season :thumb:

Yeah I am sure that we will do the national weather service thing again. Yeah that is pretty good but I like coming out of the helmet with the fog machine better. You all have definately improved every year and yeah I am sure that it is tough coming up short to us. Well I hope that we continue to beat you all but I do enjoy a good game. I believe that for anyone this year it is going to be really tough though. I think that we may just be better this year than last. But we will see. You never know what can happen once the season starts. There is no doubt though we both have disciplined and hard working programs that represent the state well in 3a. Good luck to you and we will see you on week 10.

  12. A-town, I'm a sensitive kind of guy, and now your hurting my feelings. I would have thought you loved having all us CAK millionaires coming over and buying out all the band burgers and hot dogs. We come over to your place, you take our money, and you win the football game too. I would think you would love to have us come over more often

Hey don't get your feelings hurt, it was a compliment to you all for your fan support. I love the crowd that you all bring over. Definately you all are the best crowd besides maryville every year. You know all you millionaires and everything.

  13. Alcoa dominated for the most part of the scrimmage....44-13....31-7 with the 1's. OR had some good players and played hard.

That is great to hear. I only wish that we could schedule a lot of these big schools for the regular season. It would be great to watch and there would actually be some opposing team fans beside Maryville's and CAK's.

  14. Lipscomb beat the tar out of a bunch or Freshmen and Sophomores in 2003....not a debacle at all, got beat by a better team.

The debacle at Goodpasture was back to back personal foul penalties that cost Alcoa a trip to the finals. Unless you were there, you could not possibly understand how penalties and poor sportsmanship that night gave Alcoa a "black eye" for a few years and no crew wanted to ref a game coached by Meadows....A trend that has followed him from Sequoya, to Alcoa, to Jeff Co, to William Blount (see WB v. Ooltewah and WB v. Oak Ridge during his tenure) and now at Catholic....All of the talent was gone when he decided to jump ship, but I think The Judge might get him at Catholic before he runs that program into the ground.

    We will see.

The purpose of my post was and continues to be about discipline and the lack of it during those years.

As an outsider I could see how you might have been confused.

There was only 1 personal foul that caused that loss. Not 2 in a row I remember that game. It was a receiver that was over on the far side away from the play that was fighting with a gp player that got us 15 yards. Then the punt 2 plays later which was blocked for a gp td. And yes that was an embarassing loss to lipscomb no matter what the years of the players on Alcoa. They redeemed themselves 2 years in a row after that though. Also you have to remember that 2001 meadows step son was battling cancer and missed many of the practices that year. There was some major distractions with him and his football team. I believe that if he wouldn't have missed so many practices and a game the discipline would have been better for that team. Although I will grant you that meadows has the reputation of not having disciplined teams and programs. That is the one thing that he is lacking I believe. It will be interesting to see if he can stay at Catholic and continue winning. There was no black eye for Alcoa after those years either. The only black eye after that year was the record 3-7. If we would have continued winning right after that you wouldn't have made that black eye comment. I will grant you that the Dalton coaching decision wasn't the brightest move in the world either. They were very young with a weak senior class. I am glad that they rebounded and made it two in a row their jr and sr years.

  15. No, you didn't. If that were the case we would have at least 12 championships now.

The debacle against Goodpasture in 2001 was embarrassing to the school and the community and showed the lack of control that a coach had over his players.

It's 10 years later now and the stench is finally gone. We won in 2000 in spite of Mr Meadows (remember we almost blew a 28 point lead againd Union City and had to have a goal-line stand in the final minute of the 4th to preserve the win) because the F5 was just that talented. with slightl lesser talent in 2001 and COMPLETE lack of discipline, we let an easy one get away.

As far as the big school thing is concerned, It is going to get worse for them before it gets better. Maryville was down last year and the big schools still couldn't touch them. (albeit Mr Meadows and Coach Courtney had their chances and shot themselves in the foot) Oak Ridge is in for another F5 size headache tomorrow especially since they had NO answer for CAK last week.

Here is a good discipline question to ponder: in what game did the F5 get their first unsportsmanlike penalty last season?

    (click 'show' below for answer!)

    Week 15 against Elizabethton

The stench is finally gone? 15-0 and 12-2. The only udefeated season until this past year. Wow you have a sensitive nose my friend. I know there was some discipline problems and the coaches didn't run a tight ship at all but we hadnt won a championship in a long time before the 2000 season. I would have to say the the 2 years that you pointed out kind of got the ball rolling again at alcoa. I agree the 2000 and 2001 teams were a little on the wild side but there football skills and willingness to win is the same as any of the other alcoa teams. In 04 and 05 we were a little on the wild side as well. Reid did bring in more strength training but the trash talking and getting hype was still there. 06 to current Rankin has brought the combo of both strength and discipline to the program which I believe was needed. The fact that we were able to win without Rankins style just shows what the capabilities for those other teams would have been if they would have had him. And yes 15-0 12-2 13-2 14-1 does show that we did beat all the other bigger schools besides maryville excluding 2000.

  16. My $ .02

If you are going to dog out a school for not being competitive, at least spell it correctly.

    two-fingers3.jpg

Two "r's" in FaRRagut, boys...... Two.

Sorry for the spelling on Farragut. It takes longer to put 2 rs in there. haha. That is beside the point anyways. You know what I was saying. They should have put up a better fight being that they are a good program and they have all of that money and talent to chose from. There is no excuse for getting dominated by a school 3 or 4 times smaller than you even if it is a scrimmage. Thats all that I was saying from the beginning of this post that started all of this. I was a part of Read or Meadows that is correct. We didn't have near the discipline or physical strength that Rankin has brought to Alcoa but we were very good in our own right without those things. We talked a lot of trash and got a lot of trash talked back to us. It was just part of the game. We could and did beat anyone from any class even back then. If we would have had some discipline and a good weight program it would have been REALLY SCARY. I love the Tornadoes and love HS football. I enjoy giving my opinion and seeing the responses. I do not do the whole trash talking thing any more and this is in no way trash talk. I think that the upper division schools (excluding Maryville) in our state should be able catch up to Alcoa . I don't see what is holding them back. No excuses for them.

  17. My, my. Touched a nerve did I? Tell you what. I will be at Alcoa's practice Monday afternoon/evening. I will be wearing a white Alcoa hat. Come on over and let's discuss each others football career, knowledge of high school football, and see who played the most and at the highest level. I think you might be a little suprised to learn just what I do know. No threats here. Just a friendly discussion and comparison of histories. What do you say?

No you didn't touch a nerve, just responding to comments made torwards me. You might have played for alcoa and maybe even college but the tone of your post doesn't sound like any former alcoa player or athelete that I played with. I do believe that scrimmages may not be played with all the tricks that are in the bag to get a win but I do know that every player that I played with new exactly what the score was in every scrimmage that we ever played in. I also know that after dominating or winning scrimmages, the teams confidence is up going into the regular season. Getting beat or dominated in scrimmages can do damage to a teams morale. All I was saying is that Faragut should have put up a better fight than they did. That is not trash that is just the truth coming from someone who knows a little about HS football. There is also no need for us to meet and talk about football at practice. I think that we can know all we need to know about each other on here. Just a spirited debate with different points of view about competitiveness and trash talking. I am from the school where this is not even close to being trash talk. I have done my share and have gotten my share of trash talking done to me as well. I don't take things personal and neither should you. I don't need to be told what opinion to have and what opinion to not have by someone on a message board that is made for voicing opinions. I would guess that we didn't play together at Alcoa either.

  18. If you actually "played" as claimed, then you would fully understand that scrimages are not executed with final score in mind. They are testing grounds for players and positions and concepts, both defensive and offensive. We have no clue what FHS intended to accomplish and should not take a position of ridicule when we do not have all the facts. As for not playing anyone, let them think that. Those that really understand HS football understand that Alcoa of today is capable of beating anyone in this state, regardless of classification. As for comparing with other posts, shame on you for following the trend of venom that has developed on these threads as of late. Let's enjoy the greatest game on earth, not ridiculing others. Respect for your opponent is a key pillar of success to consistently win. Argue all you wish my friend, but you have missed the target here. GO TORNADOES!

I did actually "play" my friend and I do understand what scrimages are. They are normally a tell tell of what the season has in store. The teams that put up a fight in the scrimages had good seasons and were well coached teams. The ones that didn't, did not have good seasons and were not very competative. Scrimages most of the time tell a lot. If you would have played you might not habe made this comment "scrimages are not executed with final score in mind." That is absolutely wrong. Every player out there and every coach out there knows the score and wants to win by as much as possible while learning and getting better. I also really understand HS football because I played not long ago and am tornado through and throuh. I am simply stating that Alcoa has always been able to compete with most of the schools in the state regardless of classification. It is just sad that it has taken up to this point bc of the Maryville win for people to realize that. It is sad that you think that this is a venemous post. I have been on message boards for a LONG TIME and this is in NO WAY even close to trashy post. Sorry you should take the feelings off of your sleave and step into the reality of HS football in Tennessee. Scores are kept, teams lose, some programs domitate, some programs get domitated, and kids are disappointed. That is the reality of HS football. Also fans get excited and fans get disapointed. It comes with the territory. Listen I was 27 -2 @ Alcoa and I was extremely disappointed a couple of times and the teams that beat us got bragging rights and got to gloat a little. Thats just the way it is.

  19. This thread is classless. As a Alcoa supporter and player parent, I apoligize to all FHS fans for this trash. Rest assured that Coach Rankin and staff have busted their tails to bring class back to this program. It is time some of you younger posters (and even old) catch up with the young men in pads who represent our community so well. It is always those that have never tread the field of honor that do not understand respect for the opposing team and their fans. And Rebel Ron...thanks...you are a class act.

Its not classless its jut the truth. I am not downgrading the Faragut program I am just saying that they should be able to come out and put up a better fight than they did. Even the coach for Faragut sounded as though he was real disappointed in the performance. The 6a schools such as Faragut should be able to at least hang with us. I know its a scrimage but they got dominated. I mean they have over 2,000 kids to chose from. Also I am just standing up for the Tornadoes because all these years all I have heard is that we only win because we play all small schools which is not true and never has been true. So the thread is not classless just true. I have read some classless posts on here before and this doesnt even come close. Also I played for alcoa and won a state championship years ago. So I know what its like to put on that maroon and grey.

  20. I am just wandering what everyone thought about Alcoa's domination over 6a Faragut? I know that we (alcoa) are really good but should we be able to dominate a 6a school like Faragut? It seems as though they should be able to put up more of a fight than what they did with all those kids to chose from and all that money. I have heard for years people talk about the reason why we are so good is because all we play are small teams in a small division. I would challenge people to go back and look at our record against all the schools that we have played that are bigger than we are. People love to say that about us but we prove year in and year out that we can beat most any school from any classification.
