Of the many, many, MANY problems this team and program had this year, one of the biggest was the unbelievably poor offensive line. This was a group who had lost only 2 starters from the 2005 team (Locke and Perry).

I'm not going to say anything about any one player, but as a unit it was unbelievable how bad they were.

Now, if I recall, the offense averaged over 200 yards rushing for the most of their games. What more do you want from an offensive line? They did give up some sacks early, but improved each week on that stat. Turnovers and incomplete passes hurt more than an "unbelievably poor offensive line." It is easy to blame a coach that is no longer there, though.

  2. anyone know anything about the assistants stay or go?

I don't really see either of the two assistants staying. Coach Shockley is a good coach, and I think he will be able to coach in many places. Harris is a young, energetic coach, but still needs to learn. He would make a really good receivers coach IMHO. Neither of them have ties to the area, and they both have seen firsthand at how the staff is treated. I'd get out while I could. Good luck to these two guys, and to Coach J as well. I do not think he should be a head coach anywhere, but I think he actually have a terrific offensive mind, and would make a really good OC somewhere. He just does not do well in the day to day runnings of being completely in charge.

This year they were done with practice pretty much every day by 3:30. I do not know if you are allowed to practice beyond that time or not, but with the many failures in many areas this year someone needed to be putting some extra time in at practice.

I am glad that you stated that this was your opinion; you obviously missed all the days we practiced until 6:30 or 7. There was NEVER a day we were through at 3:30, unless you count the summer practices where we started practice at 7:00 AM! Now, I do not agree with some of what Coach Johnson's ideals are, but he definitely was not short on practice time. I am of the opinion, anyway, that after a couple of hours, you are not going to get anything else out of them. If you can not cover everything in that time, you need to BUDGET your time better.

  4. No Noise from either side this week. Peter Powell's Lipscomb Game Day Notes featuring the Lipscomb game with Marshall County will soon be posted on the Mustangfanpage. Stay Tuned. Until then you may continue to watch the Test Pattern on your TV or watch the paint dry or continue breaking beans on the couch, or wait for the cattle to come in, or to watch the water boil, or watch the leaves change colors, or wait for the 7 year locust to return.

It is quiet because this game is just a forgone conclusion to almost everyone. Good luck to Marshall Co. Play hard, limit mistakes, and you never know what crazy stuff may happen!

  5. Looks like Cheatham may need to prepare for wholesale changes in the MC offense this week!

Is it possible for a team to completely change its offensive philosophy on Monday and be successful on Friday?

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! MC is not changing their offense. That would not make any sense. MC is improving the opportunities of the players we have by running plays that fit their strengths. Doesn't every team do that?

  6.

It does need to be a classy event...but why can't we show our Tiger pride on thier last night as Tigers? I am speaking for the parents who handle themselves appropriately during these events. Not the ones who need to be restrained!

You said it yourself; many people get carried away. The way to nip that is to stop all excessive noise. Unfortunately, that limits "dignified" celebration, too.

  7. The students are not encouraged to make noise and support their team. They are even discouraged during pep rallies to yell and make noise. The kids say the pep rallies are like going into a grave yard. On Monday when the homecoming court was announced they where repeatedly reminded that they where not allowed to clap or yell for the class attendents. This control thing with the administration is even used at graduation when parents and students are not allowed to clap when the students name is called out. It is dead slience in there when it should be the loudest and happiest times. So how are the kids suppose to get fired up when they are repeatly told to be quiet?

The pep rallies this year have been really good, actually. The kids just don't come to the game. Now, Monday during the HC announcement, they were told to be quiet. And I wish they would have been able to cheer a little more. Yesterday at the HC games, the kids were really into it. I think they had a really good time.

As far as graduation goes, hollering and yelling have no place there. People should be dignified enough not to do that at such an important event in their children's lives.

    Giles Co.-David Lipscomb

The tenth game will decide Region 5-3A

Now, Big Country, you have left out of the mix little ol Marshall County. Both teams must come through us to get to the region title. We have not given up yet. Maybe some have counted us out, but not the kids or coaches in L'burg.

  9. Well why am I wrong for predicting the tigers will do well friday?

Its hard to please some of you people on here! You get mad when people pick the tigers to lose and mad when they pick them to win in a rout?

Ok to make everybody happy I pick the Tigers to win by 1 point the rest of he season!

It has nothing to do with actually picking the Tigers to win. I think they will win also. It is the ridiculous in which you said it. Clarksville is loaded with athletes, and are undefeated in their region. They are not a "patsy" team. I just don't want Clarksville to have any lockerroom material, becuase they already have revenge on their minds!

    MC needs this win!

  10. Its Homecoming week at old MCHS! Should be a fun week of activities at the school for the students to enjoy! My favorite tradition is the Pig Roast! What are some of you guys favorite homecoming events that you remember from high school? Powder puff? Parades?

Looks like we will finally be able to get back on the winning track! They were the worst team we played last year. Its a good thing we scheduled a patsy for the game friday!

Is the student council sponsoring a dance after the game or maybe the parent club?

You obviously have no idea about football, and all future comments made by you will be disregarded and laughed at.

  11.

It may work to Page's advantage for Gower to come back and throw...that takes Hightower out of things if they do.

I am sorry, but I do not know what having Gower playing or not has to do with Hightower. If anything, it makes Hightower more dangerous. Can you explain?

  12. First of all, most of the Tigers did not try to disrespect anyone at that game. The team always breaks it down at the 50 yd line before each game. No one's logo is damaged due to that. MC will continue to meet at midfield regardless whose field it is, and like I said, it is not about direspecting anyone's team or crest or fans or school.

Now, with that said, the coaching staff was unaware about one of the boys trying to cut up the field while there. The coaching staff would definitely has disciplined him in that case. I apologize for it personally if that is indeed what happened.

Good luck to the Bobcats, and may fortune and hard work have us meet again in the playoffs.

  13. Is Cavalla O'Neil going to play this week? I heard he went down early with a shoulder injury last week. In my opinion, O'neil is the best player in the region. It would be a huge loss for the tigers if he didn't get to play.

It was a huge loss not to have him Friday night. I think he will be able to play this coming Friday even if it is limited. As for the picks, I think montague1 got them all right. I have liked Spring Hill since we played them in week 0. They are going to make some noise this year!

  14. Did #18 Gower start at quarterback for Marshall Co. tonight???? He is in the Tennessean's stat column

Good Job Bobcats!!! See you guys there in two weeks

Yes, Gower did play a little. Our Cavalla O'neal got hurt on the opening kickoff and did not return. Gower was cleared Wednesday, so he was not expected to play last night. He did a decent job after 2 short days of practice and 5 weeks without throwing.

As far as the rest of the game, all credit goes to the Bobcats. Good luck to you for the rest of the year.

Marshall County is getting ready for Page.

  15. Hey RW Giles Co. does not play Spring Hill until next week (9/15/06). Giles has a BYE WEEK tomorrow night while Spring Hill plays at Lawrence Co. (who Giles beat 27-12 in week one).

You're right; I didn't pay attention to the dates. Well, I think Spring Hill will win that one. I am pulling for them to do well this year becuae I think they have a decent team. They are just in a tough region.

  16. Marshall better prepare to stop the run on defense because that's been their downfall when they lose games and no team knows that better than Greenbrier (who ran all over Marshall last year in a 20-14 win in Lewisburg).

No one knows this better that the coaching staff at MC. The Tigers played a strong Creekwod team tough on defense, and it paid off. Hopefully, they will be up to the task again this week. MC held Creekwood to under 170 yards of total offense with <100 rushing. I think #4 had 80 yards rushing, and the rest of the team made up the rest.

Let's step up Tigers and go get 'em!

  17. Another big test for the young Bobcats. Marshall County always has outstanding athletes and good team speed. This year appears to be no different. Greenbrier must contain the "Big Play".

    Good luck to both teams.

You know, that seems to be their overall team philosophy. Don't give up the big play, make the offense be very consistent, and hopefully they will make mistakes. Now, that is fine in theory, but a sound offense will grind it out and beat you with time of possession.

  18. i think the song yall are talkin bout is Refused..New Noise its the one of Friday Night Lights...we listen to that also...

    Needles-Seether

Just to name a few... :thumb:

Back in Black or any AC/DC song for that matter!

  19. Lots of predictions, but what justification for either side? MC has not beaten Greenbrier in 4 years, and are the away team. So, the psychological advantage goes to GB. Now, Greenbrier has not looked good against anyone except Dekalb. MC proved they can be physical last week against Creekwood, so I think the ability goes to MC. What do you think?
