1. Could you DCA people complain a little more?  Thats all I have read on here since they named Peardon Mr. Football.  I remember reading that if you all had a gold ball you would be happy, you have it now so shut the complaining up.  Obviously DCA's defense did a great job.  If I remember correctly someone of Boyds team two years ago when they lost the finals won the defensive MVP and I believe that one of DCA's players won it last year when they lost.  No one was complaining then.

Actually, both MVP's went to Boyd players in 2003.

  2. I don't understand how the MVP can be given to anyone on a defense that gives up 338 rushing yards and 24 unanswered points. MVP's should go to the winning team, in this case Mark Thompson who shut down everything up the middle the whole game. But, if anyone on Boyd's defense deserved an MVP it was #25, Henley. He made big hit after big hit and had more tackles.

  3. I'd rather have one Roro Fennessee than 2 of any of the other Mr. Football winners.

I saw Fennesse against DCA and was very impressed with him though it was probably not his best game. He had a slight disadvantage being nominated for Mr. Football as a lineman since he played linebacker and tailback and was not actually a lineman. He should not have been nominated in this category. At the same time he didn't have the offensive stats to compete with the Mr. Football backs that were nominated. Maybe there needs to be another category or something but I do think the two most deserving players won these awards.

I don't know if anyone else noticed that the title of this thread is very funny. A lot of people are implying these awards were stolen from more deserving players so maybe it was misspelled on purpose. If so, well done Brewvol.

  4. I know i dont see how Boyd Buchanan is ranked 4th when they are the defending state champions? <_<

Rankings don't mean anything in high school football. That's why there are playoffs. If Boyd wins on Friday and the AP and Coach's Polls are split, then you can complain. Oh wait, nevermind.

Franklin is the biggest underdog by a good margin.

  5. like i said: Beat that dead horse all you want, Mr. Football went to the right man.

Mr. Football did go to the right player. This award is for the entire season and not for who is playing better at the end of the season. After watching Wooden last week against USJ, it is hard to imagine anyone playing better than he did in that game. But I have not seen Peardon so I can't really say Wooden is better. But make no mistake, he is very very good.

  6. DCA played against BB last year and they were very impressed with PEARDON.

However, they thought COLIN BODIFORD of Fayette Academy was much

    better last year (AND FASTER).......

We will see how fast PEARDON is this year.  The option gave DCA trouble

when they played Wayne County a few weeks ago.

I saw the Bodiford kid and Peardon against DCA last year and Bodiford was much faster. He should have won Mr. Football then. As for this year, I'm sure Peardon is very deserving of the award. I haven't seen him play but his stats were outstanding. Wooden is a phenomenal runner with a combination of strength, speed, quickness and vision. Who's better? We'll see Friday.

As for the option giving DCA trouble against Wayne Co., keep in mind it was the veer option which is blocked a completely different way up front. That is what gave DCA trouble. That and #7 at QB. Talk about being hard to tackle. I'm sure Akin is fine QB but I would be surprised if he could run through tackles like this kid.

  7. I was under the impression that TSSAA required head coaches in Football and Basketball to be school employees.  Is this a misconception?

    825459889

If they are being paid by the school system, then they are school employees. I don't know if a head coach is required to work in some other capacity. I know assistants are not. Many schools have volunteer assistants as well as paid assistants that have other full-time jobs outside of education.

  8. unbiasedspectator, get the chip off your sholder about Wooden being hurt last year.  I guess none of Boyd's players were at all beat up from playing 14 games last year before they faced DCA.  Its making me sick to hear all this stuff about kids being hurt.  The fact is Boyd won, easily, and until they are beat by DCA, they are still the best team in 1A no matter what the polls say.  By the way DCA beating MP and USJ is not that big of a deal.  Who cares what their records and rankings were on coacht or the state poll.  The state polls have been disrespecting boyd all year.  MP and USJ were good teams but a number of teams Boyd played would have beaten them.

As for the comment about the best back in 1A, the people have spopken.  MATT PEARDON best back in 1A.  What would make you think other wise besides the fact you pull for DCA?

    825458463

The injuries to last year's DCA team were a much bigger deal than just losing Wooden at tailback. He was also a starting linebacker along with Meacham who was out with a broken foot. When you don't have two linebackers of that caliber against a player like Peardon, you are starting out in a whole. I'm not saying DCA would have won but it would have been a different game. This is really all irrelevant. These are two different teams than last year. Sure the rosters maybe similar, but a lot happens in a year’s time.

As for: “MP and USJ were good teams but a number of teams Boyd played would have beaten them.”

This is a ridiculous statement. On what are you basing this? MP and USJ were two very fast and athletic teams but, to put it as someone posted on another thread, “ran into a buzz saw in DCA.” Now, I don’t know much about the teams Boyd has played but you just can’t say they would have beaten these teams without watching them play. And besides, why don’t you say Boyd would have beaten them instead of their opponents.

  9. It just doesn't make sense, how every year all of the people from the west get on this website and talk about how bad the east is compared to the west.  It seems to me that there more golden balls that come back to the east than there ever will be to the west.  I mean if you look at the 2000 season when Alcoa played Union City.  Everyone was on here talking about how that UC was going to come out and play smash mouth football and how there is no way that Alcoa can match the size and strength of the Golden Tornadoes.  Well if I remember correctly, Alcoa won that game and simply utilized their speed on that turf like no one had ever seen before.  That is just one example of the east being underestimated and then showing everyone who was boss.  This year it looks as though the east will be bringing home three golden balls (Acoa, Fulton, and Maryville).  Just want to here some responses about why people look past the facts and build up the west to be such dominating football over the east when they are obviously not.  What does everyone think?

    825458106

I take it you think Boyd will not bring home the gold ball?

  10. USJ made it to the A state semi-finals doing what they always do.

Great out-of-region scheduling, and having one of the fastest defenses in west Tennessee, without the size.

Hats off to DCA and to what should've been 2 straight A Championships, from a Region 7 fan.

    825458189

I was at the DCA-USJ game and their lack of size definitely hurt them.

  11. Keys to this game:

Boyd Defense: Slow down Wooden. You can't stop him completely but if he gets into a rhythm, look out. Keep pressure on the QB. Both of these have to be done by the front 7. If the safeties have to blitz to stop the run or to bring pressure, the corners will have a hard time covering the wide-outs one-on-one.

Boyd Offense: Balance, balance, balance. A one-dimensional attack on this defense will not get it done. This is easier said than done. Few have run successfully and no one has been able to throw the ball on DCA all year (I think they have about 35 interceptions). Ball security, see previous sentence.

Boyd Special Teams: Don’t miss extra points. This will be a close game.

DCA Defense: What ever you have been doing. In the last two games the defense has held two fast and very athletic offenses to a combined 150 yards and 0 points (first team before subs vs. MP). Keep the turnovers coming.

DCA Offense: Wooden left, Wooden right. Get Fenwick on the corner to give him a run-pass option. Ball security, four fumbles-two lost in the red-zone against USJ kept that game from being a 50-point game.

DCA Special Teams: Kick the ball deep on kickoffs. Giving Boyd a short field is a bad idea.

    My Pick:

    DCA 31

    Boyd 21

  12. So much for team speed. All I heard all week was how fast USJ was. Wooden had a 74-yard touchdown run and was untouched. A USJ defender was caught from behind on a fumble return, which was their only chance to score. First and goal from the ten and they only went backwards from there. DCA's defense just keeps getting better and better. They are so well coached. Not that they don't have athletes, but their technique, positioning and scheme are outstanding. This game was a couple of dropped interceptions away from being a 50-point game.
