  1. What Memphis teams have competed on a regular basis for a state championship, other than Melrose? Actually, what memphis team is any good other than MUS and Melrose? I am not trying to be disrespectful at all, but I dont recall any of the Memphis schools being that good. Booker T washington is always 10 - 0 or 9 - 1 going into playoffs and make a quick exit by a large margin score. It seems like the teams in the classes you hear about year in and year out are S. Pittsburgh, Trousdale co, Union City, McKenzie, Boyd Buchannon, Huntingdon, Marion Co, Oneida, Greenback, Alcoa, Milan, Goodpasture, David Lipscomb, Fulton, Austin East, Knox Catholic, Cleveland, Maryville, Smyrna, Oakland, Riverdale, Oak Ridge, Ooltewah, Hillsboro, Brentwood Academy, and MBA. I am sure I have missed some, but are these not the schools over the past years that have been winning or competing for state championships? These are the teams that seem to always be in the top 10 in the polls....some recent and some in the past!! I think it is very obvious that Nashville and Knoxville area schools are way ahead of the Memphis schools in football...as far as that goes, so is Chattanooga!
  2. Not sure bout Cal Preps, but I have seen every one of those teams play every game and watched all of this years...other than maybe the offensive line I dont see any way this team can beat any of those 3. If this team ever fell behind to where they had to just completely abandon the run and pass, I believe they would be in trouble. Those previous teams mentioned all had a few options at reciever and could throw just as well as they run the ball. Again, this team is great and does what they need to do to win convincingly. And in the long run, who really cares right? Just win another gold ball!
  3. Are you forgetting "Shannon Mitchell and Billy Williams"? And what about "Duck and Brandon Warren"? What about "James Rainer, Michael George, and Messy"? --- This Alcoa team is great...dont get me wrong, but I dont think they could have beaten any of those 3 great Alcoa teams. That 89 team with Shannon and Billy might be one of the best teams to ever come out of Tennessee. They were ranked in the top 15 in the country by USA Today and beat Brentwood Academy back before all this class mess! I think this years team deserves a lot of credit and praise, but to say they are the best Alcoa team ever is stretching it a bit...they are definately top 5 to play at Alcoa.
  4. This thread, like many others is getting ridiculous. I am from Alcoa, and I never miss a game. But, I too, am tired of getting on CoachT and seeing someone bring up Alcoa on EVERY thread...and some of the stuff said is just childish! However, it is obvious that many of these stupid Alcoa posts are from kids that are just being kids. It is a high school sport played by kids! I believe some of the posts about Alcoa being too cocky and things like that are stemming from posts they are reading from students. It does sound like it is starting to give the Alcoa team and family a bit of a bad rep but those who know more about this team and family know its not true. I wished the students would see the negative publicity we are getting from some of the posts...but once again, they are kids having a good time and mean no harm. The funny part of this whole thing is all of the "ADULTS" that are on here arguing back and forth with them. This thread was started asking a legit question that someone was wanting opinions on...it has turned into a mess and I am surprised it is still going. As far as Alcoa being the best teams in the state regardless of class: its hard to tell. If we play like we did against Loudon(no disrespect to them...they played hard and had a great gameplan) I would say we would have a hard time beating MUS(and I never even heard of them till last few years), Maryville, Farragut, Riverdale, and several others. If we played like we did against Maryville and Bell Co, I would say that we could hold our own and have a chance to beat anyone in the state. Alcoa is very good and I would have to say is probably 1 of the top 5 teams in the state. Take out MUS, and I'd say everyone else, we would have a very good chance to beat. Good luck to everyones respectful team in the playoffs.
  5. How are you guys doing this year? I've seen you guys ply last couple years in state. You have a good and exciting team. You have good fan base too...Boyd Bucs cars were everywhere! Good luck to you guys this year.
  6. Let's face it people...a score is kept in a high school football game for a reason. There is a winner and a loser...and in the playoffs, the loser goes home. At the beginning of the game, and the whole game for that matter, both teams are trying to score as many points as they can. Thats how you win...you score more than your opponent. Each team puts thier 11 best players on the field at a time. They practice all summer and warm up all season to get to this point. It is the job of the 11 players on offense to score points and it is the job of the 11 on defense to stop them. If a team scores 91 points on you...the only person in the world that you can blame is yourself! Why should Alcoa or any other team stop trying to score points as long as Gatlinburg Pittman is still trying to score? If you do not like getting beat, then practice harder, but never blame someone else for beating you too bad. Teams have around 75 players and all 75 were there sweating during the summer. All 75 were bruised and got up for 2-a-days! When a team pulls thier starters out of a game midway through the 2nd qtr and plays the 2nd string for about a half qtr...there is not much else you can do. Alcoa had thier freshman and jv 2nd string in for the second half! As stated earlier, these kids did everything that the starters did all summer and season. It is not fair to tell these kids that you can go into the game, but dont try to score cause the other team is getting beat bad. Or to tell the defense, you can go play now, but you have to let them score cause they cant do it on thier own. If you want to feel sorry for these teams that get beat in blowouts, dont! Instead you need to feel sorry that they did not have enough pride as individuals or as a team to put forth more effort in practice so that this would not happen to them. This seperates the good teams from the mediocre teams from the not very good teams! Football is a rough sport and you dont go out there and try to give a knockout hit or a breakaway run to make the other team feel good. Football is a competitive sport and everyone wants to win a state title...some just practice harder and deserve it more. Sure it is high school football, but the next step is college football, and 4 years later is the NFL...kids that get that far got there playing hard and doing what it took to win, not by going through the motion and trying to spare the other teams feelings. Hopefully, Gatlinburg Pittman learned something tonight from a great team and this will burn inside them until spring drills. Then and only then will you know if a team has the heart and pride to work harder so this will never happen again. I am willing to bet Pittman will...they have had good teams, and i'd say they wont let this happen too many times. Basicly, the moral of the story is...if you dont want to be part of a competitive sport where your child has a chance of winning or losing by varying margins based on his/her practice habits and the will to succeed - buy them a puzzle and keep them sheltered at home. No matter what you do with your life each day, you should always try to do it better today than you did yesterday. Life is a learning process and so is football!
