1. Couldn't agree more!  I'm not one for trophies myself, matter of fact i don't even like it when i coach and they have an all tournament team because i feel that its a team sport and it took the whole team to win not just one or two individuals.  As for the politics, i see it at every place i go and definately do not like it.  I say if the kids earn it they should get it and i have always been like that, it shouldn't matter what your last name is or isn't.  As for who's better?  Its a team sport,  Clay Co. can't win without Mr. Rich, i have decided not to discuss my son from now on as i think people on here use that against him when i say anything, alot of things are taken out of context.  So thats all i will say about that.  Hey hsbasketballnut, tell your sister i said hello and i'll see her at the game tonight!  thumb

will do, Very professional comment, maybe you should be a politician. but i agree that if more parents would let their kids level of play determine playing time and less would try to earn it through the good graces of the coach then teams would be better. and it does happen everywhere. as for dawg. we have a point guard who will deliver double digits but i wouldnt' count on delivering the ball. godwin probly has more assist a game than our whole team. but that's our problem! for the comparison i'll leave you with a quote i heard from a college coach on tv. you can teach basketball, you can't teach size!!!

  2. @ a clay co, hermitage springs game this year one of our post players got a rebound and was jus spinning around. and if you knew himyou would know that he'snot agressive and when he came arond his elbow were,i guess somewhat out, and they called a T on him. first of all it isat worst a offensive foul. second he wasn't tryin to hit anyone, and third he didn't hit anyone. it was a very horrible call. but all in all our team had around 15 T's this year alone so the refs have it out for them to begin with!!! Refs suck. almost all of them!!!

  3. 1st team all district speaks for itself, and as we all know thats voted on by the coaches, obviously there are those outside of Hermitage Springs that think differently than you do, but this is America and we can all express our opinions.  good luck on tuesday! thumb

exactly, voted on by the coaches. so if your parent (s) have a good relationship with the coach(es) then you get a vote. it's all political in most cases so make good friends and you will go far. do you really think he's better than dustin rich?

  4. This was a very fun game to watch!!

    Clay Co. - 63

    Van Buren Co. - 53

I was impressed with Rigsby....But still not as big of threat or calibur of player as Bailey is.  Clay was able to play zone most of the night.

Not enough athletes to match Clay player for player!!!

Rigsby 22    Walden 18 (difference in game was they had no answer for Godwin) 14 pts

To the Eagle faithful that made the trip....It is a jump-stop not a walk....Godwin would leave his feet and plant with both feet then jump from that position to a shot (he may have one of the most devastating moves in the region)

Van Buren will have to hope Pickett or Clay gets upset in the region because they cannot beat either one of those teams at this time!!!  B)

    825573690

how can anyone say there wasn't an answer for godwin. he only had 14 points and from what i have seen of him he isn't that much of a devastating player. he doesn't have enough impact to turn games around or anything like that. he's simply a pretty good role player and that's where it stops. end of story he's not a star and never will be on that team. no matter how hard devil tries to make him sound like one!

  5. let celina have lots of transfers. but even if you don't realize it , it will cause trouble. when the guys who have been playin their hardest for the school for 4 or 5 years have to take a seat to someone who just walks in the door, believe me it won't go over well even if it does with the kids it won't with the parents. so devil if you stay away from rob edwards and your kids takes a seat to mr. tooley will you be happy? didn't think so!

  6. I agree that they should go back to the two ref system. not only cuz there aren't enough good refs but when there are 3 they seem to rely on the others to call the game and noone ends up doing it. i was from a small school and the refs have always been horrible to us. in fact in a recent game against the clarkrange girls whom we didn't stand a chance our girls jumped out to a quick lead and actually looked like they were ready to play ball. well when the refs saw that the defending state champs were gettin beat by a no name school they started calling some of the worst calls i've seen in my life. they would have won anyway but at least keep the games honest. refs will never be completely impartial and won't always make everyone happy but they should at least call the game right. i think that the tssaa should have a ref complaint department so that if a single ref gets enough viable complaints ( possible bad calls proven on video ) that they should loose their license or at least get fined or some how be held accountable for their action!!!

  7. As much as i don't want to see consolidation, i would love to see smith and mclerran from hs go there next year also to definitly complete a state winning team. Cuz as dirty as some of the politics in hs basketball is they aren't goin to be sucessful there. but i have also talked to them and both say even with consolidation they wouldn't play for a celina team so i guess it will never happen and they will just have to hope for second in the district next year. (doubtful) ....... if anyone wants to join me in telling them they would be better off there go ahead i know they read this.

  8. Don't forget Puckett at McEwen, I've seen 7 dunks in 2 games from him. Also, Doaks from Peabody and Webb from West Carroll, All 3 of these are human highlight reels! thumb

    825561985

i'm pretty sure those players aren't from 7A and i hope that some players from clay can throw it down next year. cuz with some of the blow outs they will be creating it will give the fans something to watch! and i really hope smith from hs has a chance next year he tried a couple this year with no success. but to his credit one was at the end of the game and the other off a missed layup. gl and hope to see some high flyin

  9. 1. Rank the teams in the district as you see them?

    2. Best player in the district and throw bailey out?

    3. Coach of the year for the district?

    4. Choose five all district players?

    5. Best district game of the year?

    6. Best individual player effort in a game?

    7. Predictions for standings at the end of next year?

Have fun answering the big 7 just please keep your answers pertaining to the questions.

    1. Pickett, Clay, Clarkrange, RBS, Monterey-HS

    2. Bailey/Meador

    3. Bibb

    4. Meador, Bailey, Walden, Hannahan, Smith

    5. HS-RBS with a 3pt OT win

    6. Walden 41

    7. Clay, Pickett, HS, Jackson, Clarkrange, RBS, Monterey

  10. i think the baller has some issues about pickett and can't open his eyes wide enough to see the whole picture. pickett is good but they play a fast paced game and when westmoreland slows the game down and plays defense, and takes only good shots then pickett will definitly lose if they aren't on a great shooting night. they just don't have the shot selection or defense that westmoreland has. i agree that bailey probly could beat anyone on the westmoreland team but he can't beat the whole team and westmoreland always plays as a team! it's a team game no matter who your players are!!!

  11. Bailey isn't even close to d1 material. i have played with the players at tntech and they are alot bigger and stronger than him and that isnt' even a big school he just doesn't have the size or defensive skills and as for the best in mid state i would rather have rigsby from van buren on my team than bailey. if you haven't seem him play then you should. take bailey, make him not so cocky, add about 15 lbs of muscle, and slow him down a tid bit and you have a really good team player! i've only seen him play once but i was very impressed!

  12. Well, if there is not a game being played, I can understand them running people out that doesn't have any business being in there. It's a safety issue first off, secondly if someone got hurt in there, then there would be a lawsuit against the school because it wasn't supervised, and thirdly if I am the coach at a high school, I wouldn't want people in there messing up my gym and floor. Just becuase your tax dollars go into helping build a gym, doesn't mean that you should have free access to it whenever you please.

Now if they are not letting you in at games, yeah I agree that's a bunch of crap unless, they have been made to remove you too many times before 'cause you can't act civialized during a game.

    825552209

actually i was referin to bein able to play. shouldn't schools be covered by the same thing that parks and other public buildings are and y couldn't you sign a enter at my own risk sheet. and what i am mostly refering to is that the abandoned celina high gym is just sitting there. ppl paid for it and now it's no longer bein used as a school so what's the problem with makeing it a public facility. there are lots of ppl who like to play but there isn't anywhere to play. and even some of the high school players want to play and can't get into a gym so how are they supposed to get better without access to a gym when it's 32 degrees outside.

  13. no way this will be a blow out. you can't have a blowout against rbs @rbs cuz the the fans and rims won't let you. the fans will eventually get to the refs and they will make a little call here and there to keep it a game and if you have ever played on those rims you would know that you have to be from rbs to get into any kinda of rhythm there. i say pickett in a 10-15 point game at most.

food for thought: a ref makes 3 bad calls a quarter for a team it's not really all that noticable. if those calls result in scores that's 6 points a quarter, and over a game that's 24 points. a bad call here and there can make or break a game. refs should take their job seriously. cuz most games are decided by less than 24.

  14. i heard there has been alot of fuss about the clay co. gyms and who is and is not allowed in them. i want to hear everyone else's opinion on it?

personally i think it's a bunch of crap, first of all you have to pay taxes to make the schools then you aren't allowed in them when they are not in use and if you pay (again) to get in them then they still try to run you out. what's the deal?

Who made these ppl so important that they control where you can go?

  15. Lack of team work. It is obvious to a trained observer when guys are playing as individuals and not as a team. Sometimes jealousy for a teammate plays a role in the lack of team work. I have observed this when guys act like they don't see the open man, or move to the opposite side to avoid passing to him. If I were a coach and observed this, I would sit a player down until he learned to be a "team player". Otherwise make basketball a one on one sport. It is so awesome to see a team playing as a unit and beating an individually more talented team. I think that is one of the nuances of good coaching that makes the difference between an average coach and a great one. Great one's know how to get five guys to play as ONE.

    825551721

i agree a 100% it's hard to find a team with absolutely no jealousy and a completely impartial coach with no favorites and a team that is willing to sacrafice self glory for the good of the team. but there are a few out there and they are alot of fun to watch!
