  1. Page ain't beating South Side......they didn't look great on the film I saw on them, now granted I do like a few pieces, mainly #3 and the shooters, but they haven't seen the type of pressure defense that South Side is bringing, and I wonder if #2 is gonna be able to score against quickness and athleticism???

South Side by at least 12.

  2. Region matchups are SET. Pick your winners.

    Region 6-AAA

    Hardin County at South Side

    South Gibson at Chester County

    Liberty at Lexington

    McNairy at North Side

    Region 7-AAA

    Obion County at Haywood

    Covington at Crockett County

    Munford at Dyer County

    Dyersburg at Ripley

    Region 8-AAA

    Wooddale at Fayette-Ware

    Raleigh Egypt at Ridgeway

    Bolton at Melrose

    Hamilton at Millington

Tipton-Rosemark at TCA - This should tell us a lot about TCA - I have Tipton-Rosemark by a lot.

Scotts Hill at Bolivar - Bolivar won the first game by 3 - they host this one - I have Bolivar by  10

Lexington at Chester County - This is interesting to me - these two usually have close games - I have Chester in a mild upset

    @hawknation I also pick South Side. ;)

South Gibson at North Side is probably the biggest, but it won't really matter for seeding, because they will face each other again in the district semis. I'll take North Side by 2

  4. McKenzie also had open space inside of Westview's zone, why #10 didn't try to attack Barr is beyond me. So what if you get blocked, get her to come up and somebody sneaks inside for a layup or a foul. McKenzie's depth is gonna be a issue as well, you could tell fatigue was catching up with them. But like you guys said, if McKenzie isn't hitting the 3, or forcing turnovers it's gonna be tough at state. They have to figure out a way to get some baskets around the rim.

  5. It's not just the game last night against Westview. South Side and South Gibson also exposed them a little bit, and quite frankly this is what it is: if Madison and Micah struggle, they won't beat really good teams.  And that's the difference between the 3 teams. Loretto has 4-5 kids who can score, Westview has 3-4, Gibson County has 2. And it won't be the last time. Odds are VERY HIGH they are gonna meet again in the district and region championship.

Loretto's length frustrated Summertown. Also, Karly Weathers dominated. Outside of Burdette being a great true post, Loretto's just better from top to bottom.  With how Loretto's been playing, it's gonna be hard for anyone to beat them.  Not saying it can't happen, but based on how we've played together thus far, it's going to take one heck of a performance for any AA team to knock Loretto off.

Westview I think has a puncher's chance, but that's ONLY IF

-Harrison gets 28 or more points

-Barr gets 12 plus points, along with the defense and blocks and doesn't get into foul trouble

-Shooters make shots like last night

Gibson County and Summertown IMO are clearly 2-3 notches below.

  7. So I've seen a few Facebook posts about the Greenfield-Gleason game and the videos i saw were disturbing. Was the game chippy at all??????? Because if it was, I can see the physical play. But if not, some of these hard aggressive cheap shots by Greenfield's players is something I don't condemn in basketball EVER. And the TSSAA needs to get involved here.

  8. Diehard basketball fans around West TN (including myself) have been anticipating this game since classification changes. I expect this to sell out. Two rivals, plenty of star power on the floor Friday night.

Give me two to three keys for EACH team and your prediction as to who wins.

  9. Bolivar had the look of a state championship winner against Haywood. They came out and set the tone early defensively and offensively. 3 huge matchups this next week: at North Side Friday, at South Side Tuesday and at home against Middleton next Saturday. South Side and Middleton should be SELLOUTS.

  10. In 1A if McKenzie doesn't bring home a gold ball, it's a disappointment. Loaded at every position on the floor. They will get tested early with matchups against Gibson County, Greenfield and TCA. Greenfield and Gleason will be good too. But McKenzie is on another level.

In 2A Westview and Gibson County should be the clear cut favorites. Talented superstars, with strong supporting casts. State championship should be the goal here.

3A is South Side, barring major injuries they will be in Murfreesboro. I think Hardin County potentially may be that second team, OR it could be McNairy or South Gibson.

Dyersburg is probably a year away from a serious run. Fayette-Ware is the team to watch. Talented on paper, can they finally put the pieces together. Two games against South Side and Bartlett before the new year will show if they are ready to be a state tourney team or just a good regular season story.

  11. Middleton from the West is the unanimous favorite. Some very solid players returning. Peabody should be a factor as well once football is done. West Carroll should be a tough out as well. Humboldt will be young, but should improve as the year goes on. Anxious to see what JCM has.

  12. I think 4A is too much for Milan........you can definitely tell the difference in speed and athleticism. And two other things, I know Milan's coach is supposed to be this great offensive guru, but I didn't know the game plan was the QB run all night, and Anthony Brown just sits out there as a spectator.......Hardin County finds ways to get the ball in Pope's hands, but Milan fails to do so again.

  13. In Region 7-A I think Greenfield wins it, but Gleason is gonna be right there on their necks the entire season. JCM is pretty much in prime position to really have a exceptional first season under coach Shutes. Post play should be very solid, how much they get from the guard position will determine how far they can go. Peabody will be Peabody, gonna defend and create turnovers, but again the same issues remain: how are they gonna score points??? I think JCM and Peabody finish 1-2 in 14-A, but Greenfield and Gleason are substate bound.

In 14-AAA, South Side will take district and region. Better question is who finishes 2nd??? If I was a betting man, I think it's gonna come down to South Gibson and McNairy. Hardin County lost way too much and Chester County is gonna be heavily reliant on one player to score 20 plus for them to compete.

  14. Great game by both teams. Top level football at its best. Peabody did what they had to do, and those Ganaway twins, man they are special, and that defense is pretty solid, but gotta tighten up a little defending the pass.

So the rumor was Milan's starters didn't play much in the UC scrimmage before they played tonight, and that may have caused them to start off slow. But #1 has to touch the football more, point blank. Was one of the top two athletes on the field, and you fail to find ways to get him the ball in space. And the fourth down two point conversion down 3, when you clearly had a chip shot FG was questionable. But all in all, great game and will see both teams at the state championship in their respective classes, health permitting.
