  1. I’m really not sure what to make of this game. Gallatin has had their number the last two years when I thought Hillsboro should win going away both times. Logic would say that with better coaching Gallatin should be favored this time around. However, I’m concerned about the ability of these young men to refocus after an emotional game against Station Camp. The key to victory the last two years has been playing good assignment, team ball. Let’s hope the coaches get them right for Friday night.

  2. Again, I wouldn’t put too much stock into a team not being in the top 10. West very well may be a top 10 team. Let’s let a few games sort things out. In regards to Henry Co., they’ve played two elite teams and may still go 8-2. Record is not always indicative of the strength of the team this early in the year.

My opinion Kirby is a top 10 team. They are 2-0 with a combined score in those 2 games of 81-0. They have pitched 2 shutouts to start the season and they have plenty of talent.

Don’t disagree with that assessment at all, but blowouts against Hillcrest and Bolivar aren’t exactly a strong litmus test.  Polls are always an inexact science the first few weeks anyways.

  4. I figured since the AP poll was a joke I would take a stab at it myself.

    1. Knoxville Central- #1 until they’re beat

    2. Beech- another deep playoff run

    3. Powell- most impressive wins so far

    4. South Doyle- two blowout wins

    5. Rhea County- two comfortable wins

    6. Hillsboro- uber talented

    7. Shelbyville- offense good. Defense ???

    8. Page- two solid wins

    9. David Crockett- small body of work

    10. Henry County- tough two opening opponents

    Just missed (in alphabetical order):

    Campbell County

    Fulton

    Gallatin

    Kirby

    Knoxville West

    Ridgeway

    Summit

    Let the debating began!

  5. Gallatin looked decent against a very fast Shelbyville team this afternoon. Was really impressed with the improvement on the offensive line. Receivers also seem to be coming along nicely. Players that stuck out to me: Jordan Harper (RB), Cory Coggins (WR), and Tristan Rogers (WR/DB). Minus a few starters/big role players, but that can only help depth wise. Both offenses seemed to be clicking pretty well. Gallatin's D is a little further behind. Lots of missed assignments that can be fixed. The effort and basics (tackling) were there. Short turn around with the jamboree this Friday against Summit.

  6. The proposed districts I wrote down for the Mid Tenn area are:

Henry Co., Clarksville, Dickson Co., Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Rossview, Station Camp, and Wilson Central

Columbia, David Lipscomb, Glencliff, Hillsboro, Hillwood, Lawrence Co., Shelbyville, Summitt, and Tullahoma

Blackman, Cookeville, LaVergne, Lebanon, Oakland, Riverdale, Siegel, Smyrna, and Stewart's Creek

Gallatin, Beech, Kenwood, Macon Co., Maplewood, Clarksville NW, West Creek, and Whites Creek

Williamson Co. and Metro Schools in another district, but teams were not specified.

All these are simply suggestions though. The picture will be alot clearer once the fall enrollment numbers come out.

  7. Dark horse, young talent, whatever you wanna throw out there; I don't see any scenario where Station Camp finishes ahead of Gallatin. They usually make a good showing the first couple of weeks of the season and stay the same or decline throughout the year. They had every opportunity to beat Gallatin, Beech, and Hendersonville last year, but didn't have the coaching to do it. Otherwise, I'd say that's a pretty good start to a preseason ranking.

  8. An objective look at 9-AAA with facts:

Mt Juliet-Lost a lot but still have McCathern and others, will be in the running for 1st

Beech- Everyone in the backfield returns, lost some up front, in the running for 1st

Hville- A lot returning in the line, solid at RB with a very good FB coming up, and they have an outstanding WR in Adams. Question marks at QB and at DB, in the running for 1st

Station Camp-loaded with talent albeit young talent including Malone at WR, will start a Soph at QB, is this the year they break in to the top 4

Gallatin- lost a lot everywhere. Good Qb returning, Rice at LB and Banks at RB-DB, huge question marks up front.

Wilson Central, Lebanon, Portland- the same

I'd say that is a pretty objective look at it mondo. I think Beech will be better than most think. Definitely not a .500 team as mentioned previously in this thread. Hurd and Banks are way too much talent by themselves for that to happen. Plus, they had a decent soph qb that got considerable playing time last year, so they won't be completely starting from scratch at that position. I expect MJ to be just as good as always. There are always a plethora of athletes to choose from and Perry is a great coach. I think Station Camp will improve slightly and have a good, athletic core of talent returning, but they are one of those that won't get the nod from me until the coaching staff, and more importantly, the team itself goes out there and proves me wrong. As for Gallatin, there are plenty of question marks, but I think there is considerable talent coming back. More than most think. Rice and Banks are the ones that come to everyone's mind, but Robb (FB/LB) should be a standout along with some DB's/WR's that got alot of playing time last year. I truly believe Carnes could blossom into something special and I believe he is ultimately the key to our success next year.

  9. I'm not even a Gallatin fan, but haven't they been in 5A ever since the classification was created? Serious question.

Yes, they have. Ole bolddust, who everybody knows as golddust from last year just likes to stir the hornet's nest. It's like that little kid sitting in front of you at the game that's had too much sugar. Just ignore his preposterous posts. Oh and its almost time!! Go Green Wave!!!!!

  10. A little off topic, but does seeding determine where the semi-final will be played or does it just alternate from year to year?

Yes, it does. The higher seed will always be the host team of course. If the two teams are the same seed, then the team in the upper quad gets home field in odd numbered years and the team in the lower gets home field in even numbered years. This year our quad and quad 1 would have home field if the two teams were the same seed.

  11. Alright, enough bickering. Other than the last two min the officiating was bad for both teams. The fact is Gallatin made more big plays than Beech. I can't believe Beech didn't use the passing game more and I haven't seen Gallatin drop more easy first downs all season. Overall, a tough district game as I expected. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs.

  12. Why would it "be a mess" as you say? It seems pretty clear reading from the TSSAA Handbook. Other than there are 3 District champions....what makes this a mess? Are you implying that the degree of difficulty has increased..thus making it a tougher Quad?

Yes, it is clear for me and apparently you too, but obviously others have questions, hence the previous posts. I was trying to give a more clear, less wordy explanation. I have no problem seeding them. No need to throw the "this is easy" card at me.

  13. :roflol: Quad 4 would really be a mess with the seeding if all the teams projected hold true. The districts winners would get seeded according to their placing in the playoff standings. (Or matrix as the TSSAA is calling it.) I think I stated that as clearly as possible. The wording in those last couple of posts almost got me confused when I already knew the answer to what yall were talking about. :roflol:
  14. Can Kenwood beat Clarksville or NE in the next 2 weeks? If so, I project them to be the last in, beating out Lenoir City, Cocke Co., Bartlett, Anderson Co. and Boone at 4-6 with the tiebreaker: most wins by opponents. If Kenwood comes up short, Boone would be last in by virtue of 7 opponents with records of 50% or better.

I don't see Kenwood beating either one of those games. It would be classified as an upset if they win either one.

  15. Last year Lenoir City got in with 4 wins. There is a chance they could only have 4 wins this year too. Could they get back in with only 4 wins? They play in one of the toughest districts in the state. I think they would give a lot of teams fits that may have better records. Just wondering thoughts....

Granted they play in one of the toughest districts in the state, but I still think they'll be a 1st round exit if they get in. However, you never know in the playoffs. There's a fair share of upsets ever year.

  16. Disclaimer: I am assuming that Melrose loses to Whitehaven tomorrow. The only shake up would be Station Camp and Anderson Co. bumped out and being replaced by Hamilton and Daniel Boone. Of course SC was not able to affect their standing with the bye week tonight. The last spot (Daniel Boone) was between the 3 win teams: SC, And Co., Daniel Boone, Kenwood, Munford, Hillwood, and White Co. Daniel Boone got the spot over Kenwood on the 3rd tiebreaker, victories over teams with a winning record.

  17. If by Gtown you mean Germantown ..Gtown is 6A ..HC if Im correct will at least host 3 games should they win their 1st 2 games in playoffs..since there are 3 games remaining for most teams ..its all speculation at this point.. play ball and let the chips fall where they may..like 'olddevil' its too much fer this ole mind

No, he means Gallatin and when he was refering to Henry Co. traveling that was in regards to a semifinal game.(4th game if they both make it that far,) But you are absolutely right, it's all speculation at this point.
