  1. The talent is able to transfer to GCHS and only has to wait a year to be eligible. Shane Costello did it last year and will be playing next year. I talked to some people at last nights game and a lot of kids have quit out of frustration. There is no hope to them. Why continue watching this ship sink while good kids give their all in a losing effort week after week? Just merge programs and they can compete right away.
  2. I posted this in a thread of its own but I know people read different parts of the site. I am seriously concerned about Richland FB and this is what I wrote: It hurts me a lot to make this post, but is the football program dead? I do not like seeing the boys come off the field week after week with more injured and less pride. But that is what I see. It looked like the team had about 20 players last week, not enough to put up a fight before getting tired. Also the county has allowed the field, stands and grounds to get into very bad shape. It is in need of being bulldozed. Things would be a lot better for everyone if we could combine Bobcat and Raider football, other counties do it and it works out for them. Before anyone accuses me of being a Bobcat fan going after Richland's talent, I am not. I played for Richland and I see the truth about where things are at. It is time to stop punishing these boys because of where they happen to live in Giles County and let them have a genuine high school football experience. It is time to let Raider football die.

  4. One of my friends on the team told me about a meeting they all had with Coach Massey yesterday. It sounds like Richland finally has a coach that is willing to make the team work. Some of you guys that don't want to work need to find something else to do besides football because it sounds like Taylor's Resort and Spa has been closed.
  5. Now, a little info for ya. Coach Hickman is a fine young man and truly a asset to Richland. However, coach Hickman was with the cats to enlighten him on coaching techniques. I'm pretty sure if you ask him he will tell ya that Giles terminology and planning is FAR more advanced than anything he has ever been exposed to. Hickman & Rich will be lots of help to a new HC but he cannot teach his assistants and players at the same time. One of the main factors in Giles success was the assistants that arrived when Smith was replaced already were familiar with modern day offenses & defenses. The current Richland staff would be way behind the eight ball. The word is that Giles Co really liked Coach Hickman, so maybe he will go there and open up a spot for an assistant. But if he was truly "enlightened" then it would be a shame for him to not bring that enlightenment to Richland. As for Coach Rich, you will have a hard time finding someone that inspires his defense as much as he does. We had good defenses every year I played and it was because of that man. If not for injuries and Taylor's calls, the defense would have been good this past season also. Any head coach can consider himself lucky to walk into a 1A school and have such good assistants already in place. Small schools don't have the money to create spots for coaches and shouldn't sacrifice good teachers for them either. Maybe I am biased but Coach Hickman and Coach Rich put up with Taylor for too long to be kicked to the side of the road now. They are the only good thing about that program and you WILL lose the majority of the team if they are fired as coaches.
  6. Haven't heard anything here but I hope they take their time and make a great hire. I also they figure out a way for the new HC to bring aboard a couple of HIS assistants. With out them he's doomed from the start. Richland does not have a lot of teachers anyway so finding spots will be hard to do. It's not the SEC, its 1A football. Coach Hickman and Coach Rich are good coaches that were saddled with a very bad head coach. There is a reason Giles Co was happy to have Coach Hickman help out during the title run. Any new coach will have to make do with the assistants already there, and he is lucky to have two good ones waiting.
  7. Has anyone heard anything recently? Anyone else had a chance to talk to a board member about a co-op?
  8. How did it work out? Are they interested? This is an exciting chance for Raiders and Bobcats to come together.
  9. It will take more than a new coach to fix Richland. The zoning policy needs to change. More money needs to go into the program. Look at the stands and pressbox rusting and rotting down. The locker room has no sink or toilet. When it rains there is no where to practice but Giles has a million $ building. Richland parents are paying taxes that are spent on Giles County football. Why can't their boys go down and be part of the better treated program?
  10. I second that motion. Call the board put it on the agenda and I will meet you there. It would save money on the hiring of another teacher, theyre all about saving money when it comes to spending on teachers. Love to see OC have to deal with this problem. Everyone knows the best players hit the field first no matter who they are. I played at Richland in recent years, if I tried bringing this up I would have some close friends and good coaches feeling screwed. This needs to be brought to the board by parents from both schools. I'm not old enough for them to take me seriously anyway.
  11. It's time to do what is right for the best players in Giles County and put together one team at GCHS. A co-op is the way to go, as much as a lot of us don't like to admit it. Richland can build a good basketball, baseball, soccer team, but it can never build a good football team with the zoning situtation the way it is. So give the best players at Richland a shot to play on a county team that we can ALL be proud of! Tee, get it done! Many of us in the north end of the county WILL support this.
  12. I heard Taylor is worried about his job. If he cared about anyone other than himself, he would go ahead and resign. Its sad that someone will have to tell him to leave. Taylor should be able to see that he can't get the job done. He should also know that parents are tired of having their kids cussed at and made to feel 2 inches tall. That is not why parents let their kids play football. It's time to clean Richland football up, starting at the top. The entire community is hungry to see this man step down or be fired. *fingers crossed*
  13. Wow. Taylor couldn't even beat Loretto. Tis a sad day in Raiderland. Please Rickey Taylor, realize that you aren't wanted by the community any longer. I've even heard that the assistants are ready to see you leave. The season's done, it's time to go.
  14. These teams are a combined 1-17. I'll go out on a limb and say Taylor finally has an opponent he can beat. The big question is, does anyone care at this point?
