    HS Showcase

    Is there still room?
  3. Here is the TBCA info if that is what your talking about. June 22, 2010 Baseball News - TBCA All Region teams will be posted toward the end of the week... We are working on compiling the 2010 Stat Leaders... TBCA All State Team will be announced at the end of next week... This is for all mid state. Just in case you meant this. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20100 ... eball+Team
  4. As programs look for new ways to meet the rising needs and costs. I ask the following. 1. Whats better a 501c3 business or a parent group with a check book? 2. What is your top fundraiser? 3. Do you do small fundraisers or big fundraisers? 4. What does the annual budget look like for small, medium and large schools.
  5. KS, no offence taken. I always appreciate other opinions. We seem to have strayed from umpire raises to the challenges of booster clubs and raising money for differant size programs. We should have a thread to discuss that. It may be more productive for everyone. Do we really have any control over TSSAA anyway?
  6. I am only making some suggestions on how others may be able to fix some of their issues. Here at Spring Hill We have a great program. No problem with the fan base here. We have good boosters good coaches and an AD who is always looking for creative ways to solve problems. no matter how big you are money can always be a problem. Running the baseball booster club has been challenging, frustrating and very rewarding. Our group has put over 50k into baseball over the last three years, Regardless of the "economy, Job loss or teachers salaries". We would gladly give $500 if that was going to be the differance in saving or cutting a sport. I agree that every sport needs a budget. Thats the right thing to do. If Umpires where suppose to get a raise than I stick by my 10% and look for creative ways to get it done. Its the right thing to do. Unfortunatly schools do not treat revenue or budgeted dollars like a business does. They spend everything as quickly as possible before someone cuts their funds. Umpires should not have to pay becase of poor teachers salaries (don't teachers have representation) or the economy or administration. I spend way too much time jumping through hoops trying to give my school assets. This is a no brainer for me. Give the umpires the 10%!
  7. What if athletic directors instituted a $50 player fee at the begining of each school year. That money could be set aside for officials at each game. You can handle any "Economic Hardships" as one offs. You can use gate fees for any short fall. Booster clubs could also contribute. $500 gos a long way in helping pay for officials. Coaches are allowed to do fund raisers. You have to take care of the game first before you make improvements. If umpires need a raise than fine, give them a 10% raise. Folks have plenty of excuses why things are wrong or can't get done. I feel like you are part of the problem or part of the solution. I'm not wild about everything the TSSAA does but they should not be the excuse for not having some sports. Look closely at AD's and administrators. Do you have quality solution based leadership guiding your student athletes? $500.00 would pay for what....two home games? Out of 15-20 for some schools. I think it's a good idea, but that's not much of a dent in that cost. I think umpires are well paid for what they are asked to do. If they were promised a raise and had it taken back, that would be unfair to them, of course. Regardless, I think people forget that alot of programs don't have the revenue generating streams that some of these machines do. If you can't raise the funds, or don't have the crowd, to pay the umpires, you end up playing a ton of games on the road. Each sport has a goup of parents that have the ability to create a booster club. Their are 8 booster clubs in the school my son goes to(in various sizes and capacities). AA school 800+ total kids. $500 times 8 is $4000. That is just to help support the total cost not replace it. $50 athletic fee times 200 student athletes is $10,000. Each coach has to support this with $500 from their fundraising 10 sports times $500 is $5000. Thats $19,000 per high school season for officials. Seems like a pretty good dent.

  9. Binns, sorry to hear that. Once they were supposed to get the increase, it was not a good idea to rescind it. What was the increase supposed to be? I know this is going to turn into a horrible back and forth arguement. But, I have to say good move TSSAA. Sorry officials, I know there is a lot of expense involved. But $85.00 for a V/JV DH is a good pay check. Most of those games are two 5 inning games or a 7 and a 5. It usually starts at 4:30 and is over by 8:30. Thats $21.25 per hour and we won't even get into the discussion of what happens if you make a mistake or show up in a bad mood. Most single A games I have seen have 20 people max in the stands and can't even afford to pay you on a regular night. I have heard two teams talking about shutting down JV and that would mean a decrease in pay for you guys anyway. I say thanks you TSSAA. Do they get a 1099? Are they subcontractors? I see cash being paid out in the summer. Just wondering how it works. $85 with no income tax seems pretty strong.

    HS Showcase

No need for a 2013 graduate to attend a "showcase" Too expensive for holding your first one, no reputation to go on Seems more like a money making venture than an opportunity for exposure Need to go with the $50-$75 range until you get yourself established http://www.ihigh.com/KY/article_29353.html http://scvarsity.Unapproved Website/content.asp?CID=957583 http://www.illinoishighschoolsports.com ... p?p=983859 http://www.northwood.edu/sharedmedia/PD ... owcase.pdf This is a great showcase from its outline. We have traveled to many showcases from the time my son was a Soph. My frustration has always been exposure (lack there of) and Feedback. feedback being the most important. Where does my kid fit at the next level? Does he fit at the next level? Everyone has SEC Dreams but not everyone has SEC talent (weather you want to hear that about your kid or not). To put my son in front of this list of college coaches and get objective feedback about his talant and have an opportunity to try and catch the eye of a college coach for $125.00 IS DIRT CHEAP! Lets go on feedback only! Last Year we went to three D1 colleges for showcases. All about $200. All one day events. No other colleges were there and no tangible feedback was given. We went to two NAIA colleges at $100 ea and only one gave feedback and had multiple colleges. Birmingham Southern had great feedback and coaches from every division. Both PERFECT GAME and Demarini TOP 96 are top showcases but you want talk expensive! About $500 per event plus $100 or so for a video. We did both. Show Ball has great top college draw but at $600 plus Plus Your kid better be pretty good (in their opinion). In my opinon (based on my sons comments). "each showcase seems to get easier" and "I can't imagine being infront of all those radar guns for the first time as a junior or senior" The sooner you get your son comfortable with the process the quicker he will relax and perform to his potential. So thanks to these guys for providing a great format at a great price with TANGIBLE FEEDBACK. You can count on my son from Tennessee's AA state runner up team to be there!
  11. Disappointed you did not get to broadcast. They seemed to be more interested in collecting the $8 from five year olds than communicating restart times. Oh well, see you (listening to you) this summer.
  12. Congratulations to Gibbs on winning the state championship! What a pathetic display of sportsmanship by the players and coaches. I am all for being excited and I understand things go both ways, but spitting on apposing players! Coaches trying to get in players heads. Not congratulating the other team. Even the umpires were shaking their heads at what was being said! Truly one class less display. No sour grapes here. I truly hope they enjor the excitement of winning! It was a great game. Good luck next season.
  13. I think what he meant was, way to glide right through a weak district with little competition. NONE of these district teams will be in the Burro. Weak district? Wow! SH, MC, GC, and Page can beat anyone with their best on the mound. To say this is a weak district is crazy! SH is 25-5 with several wins over AAA schools such as Lawrence County Blackman, Cookeville (2), Hardin County, & Shelbyville. SH has lost to Dickson County (2), Lebanon, Hardin County, and MC (district). They played in the Warrior Classic and the Good Day to Play Tournament. So don't think they just played an easy schedule to get to 25-5. I'm not saying SH or any of the other teams in this district will be at the state tournament but a few of them have a shot. Looks like the beat some pretty tough teams. I also believe they won their pool in the warrior classic last year and they have only lost to Blackman once in the last 5 games or so. You still have to win to get there but I would not say this is a weak district. Hey 2hands, will the softball team make it out of district this year?
  14. The brackets/pools are determined by final season standings. I'm not sure what you mean? I think what he means is those young men at SH have done another great job this year and they earned the #1 seed by their play on the field and he wishes everyone the best, especially the #7 an #8 seeds. Good luck to everyone!
  15. They (SH) are most likely too busy enjoying their second district championship in a row and getting the loose ends tied up on their 5 college recruits.
  16. This guy seems to have more than his fair share of drama. He also does not seem to be on the same page as his partner. There was some question as to who was scheduled to call behind the plate first. I know its a tough job sometimes but if you get your stuff together before hand you can walk on the field together and do the job. If your not sure about the call.... No call!
  17. GO Raiders! Loved or Hated..... Never Ignored!
  18. Pitching will be key. Whos on whos off will be a big factor. Can Giles play error free? Can Spring Hill play error free? Spring Hill and Giles were going to play in the championship game at the st pat's tourn..... Guess we will have to wait till Monday(or tues or wed looking at the weather). Good Luck to both!
  19. I think they only have one basketball player and he is only a soph. So they should have everyone jn place.
  20. Good Luck this year, if the coach is good you better hang on to him. Turnover is never good.
  21. Congrats to both. They are good athletes and great young men! Best of luck!
  22. quit talking yourself up bro, and talking in 3rd person isnt fooling anybody, especially considering your username includes your name excuse me young man but I am HIS MOTHER. And I am stating the facts. Thanks MOM!
  23. Lets get back to the topic. Who else out there is a top 2011 player.
  24. Wow! Now after all that, who else is on the radar as college material CG?
