  1. So, what you are saying is that even though it is a rule, you won't make that call? The rule is pretty cut and dry. Unlike targeting penalties which are extremely subjective for the most part. Just curious to get a refs true take on this.

What are You trying to read into this???? Bands can play just like Fans can cheer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I actually found the rule in the NFHS rule book in section 9:9. It states that an opposing teams band can not play during a play on the field while the opposing team has the ball. It falls under "unfair acts" and can range in a penalty of 5 yards for delay of game up to 15 yards and automatic first down for unsportsmanlike. A warning is given first then a penalty.

If the quarterback cant communicate to his team he can simply turn to the referee and let him know he cant communicate with his team then its the referees duty to warn the AD from the opposing school.

Which NFHS Rule Book are You finding This???

  3. I see more problems a lot of the time with the clock operators than anything. I watched a kid go out of bounds and the clock didn't stop in the Maryville and Oakland game and no one said a thing from Oakland. It was their field and I couldn't blame the coach for not jumping someones tail but nothing was said.  I also see a so many game the clock keeps ticking four or five seconds after the play is called dead. That person should have to be sharp as a tack to operate the clock and not given to someone that is ready to be put out to pasture.

    Were You at the Game?

  4. Excellent point ! I hadn't really thought of that as far as the difference between a Misjudgment and a Misapplication ! I would be in favor of this procedure , and more than likely it would give the Refs even more incentive to make sure they know all the rules.  It would be embarrassing for them to be overturned in front of everybody just because they didn't know a Rule .

NFHS A Team has the right to call  time for the Head Referee to discuss the "Misapplication"of BOOK RULE prior to the next live ball.If it is deemed MISAPPLLIED it is then corrected the timeout is given back and play  on... Even if you can not recall said rule this will buy you some time to regroup and get it right. This is You last chance after next liv ball too bad.....ALL NOPLAYER and Unsportsman and Dead Ball  Fouls are mark of from the Succeeding Spots.

  5. It was 1999, MHS against Heritage.  HHS was driving very late in the game for the potential winning touchdown.  MHS held HHS on a 4th and long and by tackling the player driving him out of bounds.  After the runner was out of bounds, a MHS player hit him out of bounds drawing a PF.  The referee (with Quarles arguing) awarded Heritage a first down allowing HHS to continue the drive.  Heritage scored the winning touchdown a few plays later winning 26 - 21  Since it was a dead ball foul, the application of the penalty should have been AFTER the play, thus the correct call would have been MHS possession 1st and 10, and then march off the 15 yards.  In the paper on Monday (or maybe Saturday), the referee association admitted that the referee misapplied the rule and, in fact, it should have been Maryville’s ball.  (No court case followed, of course).

No You march off the Dead Ball Foul then You have 1st and 10 not 1st and 25 as you insinuated...

  6. Firebird I like that you speak what you feel. No disrespect taken. I would agree and say your offense is close but not quite as good. I think Vaughn is a better rb. Other than him the 97 offense was better. You had buck at qb, Henderson at te, and the line was stout. Wr wise you are probably better this year. I think it will be close throughout. Looking forward to a good game.

If I'm not mistaken Big John Henderson played more wide out than TE.. Especially on PAT'S..

  7. Chick,

I go all the way back to slow pitch with You>>>A Competitor is stating it mildly! Playing with You,against You,or Umpiring for You was always "Top Draw" I would bring My "A" Game, anything less was no good!

Chick>> You,Andy,Jeff and a few more are indeed a dying breed in Fast Pitch! It was a pleasure working Your Games Most of the time, the hardest part is mutual respect which I have for You!It won't be the same without You!!!!
