  1. McMinn Central has a sophomre as a designated reliever/closer that throws a submarine style pitch. At 6'2" 215lbs he has promise and a good 80mph slider that can be very intimidating to a kid that hasn't seen this style of pitching. Not ready for prime time yet but one to keep on the radar. #17 McKinney
  2. Season to start Monday with a game against Greenback. Team has come along and the pitching looks ok to start the season but the d-fence has to step it up big time if this team is going to make a showing in the district this year. We are very young and still looking for the best fit so the "Playing for a Cure" week-end should really be a roller coaster ride. Go Blue
  3. Looked better than Saturday. Ward in as SS tightened the infield but still got a LOT of room to improve. Very long scrimmage, maybe 9 innings. Central pitched all except Ward. Poteet started and went 3, looked pretty good. Pitched 4 freshman and Mckinney "the submariner" sophomore closer, pitched 1 2/3 and looked good. OutField was much improved and catching (Hart) looked good. Swilley, added some much needed support in the batting order with one hit to the fence. The BBCOR bat are going to reducts the HRs to a minimun this year. Alot of attention needs to be given to base-running. I think Monday is another scrimmage so let's see what happens.
  4. Keegan was a senior last year. He's gone.
  5. With no seniors for leadership or experience is a .500 season a reasonable expectation? Only 3 pitchers with any experience.
  6. McMinn Central is very young with no seniors for 2012. Got spirit, need experience.
  7. The first week of practice is here. With no senior support, what kind of season can the Chargers hope for this year?
  8. I would like to ask about all the kids that are on the sideline that are not freshman and have good size. I know some of these kids are alot bigger than the starters but yet they never or rearly get any playing time. I see the extreme need for the passing game to improve yet the 6'2" 6'3' and 6'5' receivers and all on the sideline. To say, "well, they're not as talented as the 5'7" & 5"8" receivers" is a pretty poor excuss since they are not even used much in practice. I guess it could be blamed on the coaches for not coaching these guys up. It just doesn't make alot of sense to me. ALso, the comment about leadership is KEY. The QB is not one of the captains, that in itself is just wrong. That is the main purpose of your QB is to lead. You can teach a leader to throw a ball easier than you can teach a ball thrower to lead.
  9. Is it true Central had 4 players hurt in Tuesday's practice.
  10. I just don't know and just want to talk about the possibilities. I will not lay blame anywhere but could we discuss the season.
  11. May not be the right topic to post under but I watched the JV beat McMinn yesterday 22-0 and jsut wanted to give them their due. We really looked good on both sides of the ball and the D really stood tall. I think we have a lot to look forward to. Norte Dame scored 61 pts Saturday but gave up 48 so this could be a very exciting game. If the Defence can stop the deep ball we may be able to put up 21 and that should be enough for a win.
  12. This is pretty rough talk. I hope you're wrong but only time can tell. Derrick was a different kind of coach and seemed to motivate his team to get the most out of them. That is a very special gift that not all coaches have. He is gone though and we have Coach Goodin at least for now. I will respect him and hope the kids respect him but if he can't produce, then we need a change.
  13. I think alot of people will be surprized with the final score. Not saying Central will win but the defense will be a lot stronger than last year. If the corners can stay up with the WR the line should be able to keep the middle tight. Speed will be a factor no doubt but our ability to move the ball will be the key. I still believe we have a much improved team from last year and if the boys can find the heart to believe it we should be ok.
  14. Get off the coaches. Yes they have a lot of room for improvement but very time the coaches are attacked the "team" is also attacked. At this point in the game "It is what it is" no amount of coach bashing or player bashing is going to help. Of course if the point and purpose is to actually hurt the program, well I guess you can be proud because that is all these negative comments do especailly at this point. I wish we could just get behind the "TEAM" and support the boys in every way. I believe we have the talent and commitment needed by the boys to win 4 or 5 games but without fan support it could easily be 1 or 2. GO BLUE
  15. They did have some to quit but we are still much improved from last season. I believe the guys that quit will regret that decision. The roster has around 43-44 players last count. Wyatt has been moved to Fullback with Levi Holley taking back the QB position. We looked a little weak at the WR position on the deep routes but a lot of that is just working on the timing and finding the combination that's going to work. They have a dozen or more receivers and are still sorting through them for the starters. RB's looked good and the and so did the D. O-line is going to get better by game time and if the passing game can start clicking deep we may surprize alot of people. I'm telling you readers, you need to come out and see it for yourselves. Blue Pride is back in town.
  16. Before Saturday I would not have expected a very good game, but after seeing the passion the Chargers have this year I wouldn't be to surprized to see them win against McMinn. I know most will say "just another crazy central fan" but maybe you we should hear from few others who saw Central play Saturday. Bradley didn't run over our boys but I think maybe we surprized a lot of folkes. South Pitt was problably the best team we played but I think we did Ok there too. Central 21 / McMinn 17 Go Blue
  17. Unbelievable. I thought the other teams must be playing their JV or second team at first, but I don't think they all had a conspiracy to come togather and try too trick all the players and fans into believing central was better than they really are. I seen a lot of Charger pride and a lot of smile on the side lines. GO Blue
  18. Good post and I hope we can see more like this. I hate the fact that we (the fans) have no expectations for this team this year. I understand it's because we haven't seen any reasons to have hope. Maybe this week will bring us a little bright spot. Did anyone see todays practice?
  19. Let's just wait a second boys, until the season is done and over and the results are in, no one knows what the season will bring. Look at UT's in 98, no one excepted a national championship but that's what happen. I'm not saying these kids are a championship team but maybe, just maybe they're a little better than we all realize. We do need to realize talent level is always up and down but I beleive the coach does have to be held to a certain standard of behavior. These kids should be able to be inspired by their coaches by word and deed. Josh, you and the brothers and cousins need to really examine your reasons be being there. I can't believe it's just for a few extra dollars at the end of the month. Pride in the program and the beief that you can make a difference is what it should be about. Remember "attitude reflects leadership".
  20. Judah Ward pitched a complete game last night against Harriman. Chargers win 3-1 for final regular season game. Great job Judah, hope you left something in the tank, the Blue will need you next week.
  21. Moses pitched another great game last night at Knox Carter going 4 innings and Mckinney closing out the 5th for a 14-0 shutout. Looking good guys.
  22. Scott Moses pitched a great game at Meigs last evening 6-0. McCall may be out with his shoulder though.
  23. Yes, he will be tough next year with Bradley Ward. Hope they can find some help to round out the rotation.
  24. Cheifs are solid, I have to give them that. Very good chance to win the district this year but remember this is baseball and we have seen some strange results come from this great game. It ain't over til it's over. Good luck to all 5AA teams but may the best team win. The regionals will be a whole different ball game.
  25. Keegan McCall did a great job against Polk (8-5) last night with a little help from Freshman closer Zeb McKinney. Now get ready for Meigs next week. Go Big Blue
