I've always felt that working on the passing game when you had a game in hand was a good Idea, but could you hear the crying. People telling you how classles you are. But the way I see it ,its you're job to improve you're own team. Of Coarse you could end up getting you're qb hurt in a senceless situation. Alot of different ways to look at things. I do think Ward is a better passer than the qb we had a year ago. I really don't know but 1 team in this area that tries to throw it much,Thats Unaka and its not working out that well. But before its all over,we'll be forced to throw it some, could work out to our benefit, because we may catch um off guard. I'm sure they work on passing all the time in practice. Just hope when we need it ,it works. I will say one thing ,when you can score 34 on Johnson Co running the ball, you're pretty good at it.
Once again...on the same page...and yes, I could hear the crying now...hadnt thought of that! But how far do you go to please the opposing team?! See, this has turned out to be a good thread after all!!!

I know exactly what uknoit2 is saying. He is not saying we need to turn into a throwing team. He is saying that against some of these weaker teams, we need to throw the ball a little more just for practice. There is going to be a time come this year when a team shuts the run down and we have throw it. Without getting to throw it much in a real game, it is going to be very hard to do it and find your rhythm. Running the ball up and down the field against Hancock county proves absolutely nothing. If you can't run on them you need to quit. We did the same thing last year and when the time came to throw the ball, we couldn't because we had very little game experience of doing it. We ran it and ran it and ran it against some very weak teams and it did not help us one bit. These coaches do a great job and I am definately not complaining about them. I just feel they do need to work on some weak areas when they know they have the game in hand.
Thank You, Lord knows I love Lunceford's coaching style...though he may have mellowed a lil the past year(s)! He, without doubt, has forgotten more than alot will ever know. And Yes, I am NOT saying we need to become a passing team...Just strengthen a lil weakness here and there...Im sure Mike has it well taken care of tho....Some may have misunderstood my post but that happens to me alot!

Hampton has spread the carries around not one guy getting all the carries. and as for the pass blocking they do a good job i mean they are 6-0 so theyut are doin something right and as for the playoffs down the road they will be fine they got a good coach they dont need to switch anything up they got a great group of linemen and some good backs the recievers can make big plays they have and have that skill! they will need to pass a little down the road but lunsford doesnt want to show his colors just yet still earily in the year he has got to many tricks we have yet to see! Hamptons D is playing really well that middle linebacker is a man and the d ends are doing a good job! keep it up i see hampton beating sulivan east 42-14 and going 10-0 GO DOGS!
'79, The same thought had just hit me...Lunceford knows what he is doing no doubt and Im with you that he may be saving a lil something for later (the older I get, the slower I think clearly sometimes!)...Im not for changing anything up....pass blocking can use a lil work BUT their run blocking and downfield blocking is pretty darn good! Yes they're 6-0 because of a desire not to loose and because of that 'D'....They MUST keep working hard and continue to develope more and more toughness....as for the line, I love all those boys and have known most since they were very small...they are good kids! The line always gets lil praise and Im as guilty as any other of that neglect....just want this team to develop the total package. "GO DOGS"

KING, I totally agree....but right now Hamptons line sacrifices Ward a bit too much....an unblocked defender causes bad passes that may also sacrifice a receiver....sure don't need anymore injuries...just a lil more determination
-
Well, one thing I can say is that The Dogs block better than Da Bears are tonight!
-
What I appreciate is that Lunceford still works hard although he has proven himself in the past. This shows me that he has pride and THAT can be contagious! That's why I stated earlier that he had found the key to waking his receivers and maybe the key can be found for toughness
-
Dogbreath, let me continue to say that I was hoping the toughness of a few would have already rubbed off on the others... can't teach size and heart BUT they are doing better I believe
-
Dogbreath, been in this football stuff for some time. Not sure what you read that led to your reply but I hope you reread this thread. I have not questioned the coaches nor the job they are doing. But as you see a need for this bunch to be tougher and shake off a bump, I see a need for a lil better pass blocking (just to give them the complete game). I too hope they continue to play better and become hard nosed as they were against Johnson Co...Hope we are now on the same page
-
Cloudland MUST stop the backs on 1st contact....missed or broken tackles will put Cloudland in a bad position....punish JC's offensive and defensive line and the 'Landers could pull the upset....I hope so
-
I remember when mike was at cloudland, I'd hear some morons on the sideline complaining about not throwing the ball more while Byrd, Benfield, Clipse, Jones, and the Shells were piling up 1500 yard seasons and 8, 9, and 10 win seasons. You always play to the teams abilities. It takes great discipline for receivers to run perfect routes and the timing has to be right with the QB. We don't have those kinds of recievers up here. A successful running game allows for opportunities with play action pass. I wouldn't throw it know more than 10 times a game. The only reason Cosby threw it as much as they did is Cloudland completely shut down there run game. Its like Pujo said, you better be able to run the ball.
Mmmmm...not a moron and not complaining! My point was that pass blocking needs a lil more improvement to allow this team to be a lil more dangerous....now, do you refer to Hampton or Cloudland's receivers not being able to run precise routs and QB timing?

LOL...SHEWWW

lol
Hope their are drinking upstream and not down stream, downstream water might tast bad lol just joking
-
I do see improvement in their focus. I believe they will be ready...PREPARE NOW , FOR EVERY MINUTE WASTED CAN NEVER BE RETRIEVED
-
At some time....at some point....my point exactly!
-
Pujo, that's the HARDEST thing to teach any kid. It has to be kids that LOVE the game for the game....'cause there's no glory in it...unless, like me, you're looking for it....then its one of the greatest sights in football
-
Dogtricks, don't need but one or two more horses to drink what these coaches are serving. I believe their heads to be close to the water! LOL
-
Yes, I have the same confidence in Mike AND JR. I remember that game well also...that was a crappy night all the way around...don't get me wrong, not finding fault with this team nor the coaches, just wonder how many threats this team really has....I believe them to have quite a few
-
I do see ur point and you know we stand toe to toe on Hampton football and football in itself. This just seems like a very talented team in all areas. Agree? Just a lil more determination on the line and this could be a special team...(note: when Ward has time to throw, the passes never usually "hang"...ya know what i mean)
-
Running game is definitely ON! Happy Valley will be the early test....
-
By the way, loved the new offensive threat we saw Friday in Logan Shell! GREAT!
-
Well, I don't have to wait and see that to beat the west, you gotta be dangerous all over the field. I have the fullest of confidence in the coaching staff and support them to the end. THEY would tell you that the pass blocking has been a weakness...just saying it's time to push the right buttons to move this bunch to the next level
-
Just a note to say thanks to the fans at Hancock. They were very nice, kind people. You all will have a football team to be reckoned with soon, I believe! For I understand they may be young and, if so, will be gaining in knowledge of the game soon. A long drive with a FEW CURVES, but ended up amongst good people.
-
The last game presented a prime opportunity to practice the pass blocking (an area in which they need to be stronger)....we know Waters, Adkins, and Smith can run, and that the running game is Lunceford's game....BUT to handle Happy Valley and teams from the West, we must be able to spread the field...IMO. Ward hasnt had alot of time to set and look down field. His passes have been a lil long, inside, behind, high or a lil too far outside. Now, we KNOW that Ward has the game (and receivers to make the plays) but he must have the TIME to make this offense more balanced, and more dangerous. Lunceford challenged the receivers in the Eliz Star and they responded. Lets challenge the line and QB and have an offense that WORRIES any team they meet.

Wish i had stayed and watched ur game....no fun driving 2-1/2 hours to watch a JV game!! But the Hancock people were nice....I hope u Cloudland fans made those unbearable Cosby fans miserable!

Yes, but as long as Ive been involved in coaching (at diff levels) Ive found that sometimes you can get well... vapor locked! Then you hear or read something and think "Why didnt I think of that myself"...Now I DONT think thats the case with our coaches. I doubt if they read and learn anything here! Thats all I am also...Just a BIG Bulldog fan and a fan of Lunceford and will be for A LONG TIME! Our goals ARE the same...UKNOIT2...JUST WIN!
