Well lets give you another one, Forrest played Riverside real close, Marion beat Forest pretty bad, watertown beat marion, Trousdale laid it on Watertown. You or no one else will earn a Silver ball. Its in the Trophy case at Hampton.

Spot on. Like you said, an L is an L regardless of the score, and Hampton lost ground trying to win rather than "making it look good" and settling for a closer margin. Herm Edwards made it famous..."you play to win the game".

And that's what we came to do...Would love to have stayed in the ground and pound for 3+ qtrs and could have had we not had so many mistakes. It is what it is.

I watched the game on tv. I was very proud of how Hampton represented region 1...tough hardnosed football , kids playing their guts out for each other and a large  passionate hometown football crowd followed em down. I know your proud of your boy. He showed everyone that a QB can be a FOOTBALL PLAYER and get his team to the big game. Loved his heart and determination and his teammates followed suit. Nothing to hang your heads about. Ive said for years Hampton has one of the best programs in the state year in year out. Westview is still sore I can promise you that. Win or lose when you play Hampton EVERYTHING hurts the next few days. Congrats again from Cosby!

Much appreciated coach! These boys just love to play. No flare, no show, just football. Yea, we failed to execute as needed and made uncommon mistakes but few teams have the connection these boys do. Heck, Saturday was a needed distraction for most, it's back to work and life as usual but sure proud of them

Yep when it’s even or your outmanned small mistakes are huge. Kinda like the botched punt in our game. That was the mistake that started the dominoes falling. We were out manned and that was all it took for y’all to start running away with it. Better team won that night also. Just the way it is. Like us, y’all never folded and ended with class. That’s about as good as you can ask for.

Yes Sir....You know, with the exception of the last play before half, we played some dang good football on the O side. But that last play before half, we just didn't execute our blocks and was stuffed. We block, we're in.

On D I noticed they'd release the back into the flats bringing Conor up from safety then the weak side was a lil too open for QB to run. One miss tackle on him and it was bad news LOL

People claiming prizes that they didn't win, We may have to put a guard over our Silver ball.lol

Yea, every year we read the same things in football and basketball...the two best teams in the state have always played well before the title game Lol

Hope ole #9 is good today

Exactly and 3 turnovers and a fake punt left short fields, when the wheels fly off ,it gets real bumpy.

We blew too many blocking assignments but, as expected, they were bringing the house. Still, watching the film, it's hard to believe the horse collars, face masks and holds that weren't called. A couple of those could've been huge to keep it closer....Seemed WV played the perfect game huh

    31 minutes ago, crow said:

Yes the turnovers, at least a couple of them were a result of trying to climb back into the ballgame, fake punt same thing. If your losing might as well give ‘er ya know. No extra credit for a close loss. Still a special year.

You know as well as I do, when you're playing the same 11 both ways, mistakes and breakdowns take it out of you faster than anything...Could not afford that vs a team like them.

No they couldn’t have. Alcoa’s enrollment this last cycle was 600+ which put them in 3A. They could have elected to play up in 4A but could not have chosen to play down.

They elected to stay in 2A (3A-4A playoffs) under the Z plan a few years back I believe but yes you are correct about the current reclassification.

^^This^^...Believe me, a couple cycles back, Alcoa could've dropped to 2A but stayed in 3A. Sorry for not being clear in my post

I watched the whole first half.  Those big plays down field by Westview we’re back breakers.  Even more so was the stop on the half yard line before the half.  I was pulling for you Hampton.  That Jones boy sure is tough and leaves it all on the field.  I wish we  had a couple guys like him on our team.  Take away Simpson and Hampton probably wins State.  Simpson is definitely as advertised.  Good luck to him at Bama.

    Thanks PM...He'll appreciate that

No I just wanted everyone opinion since some are trying to discredit what Hampton accomplished this year. Seems like Westview was very lucky with the new realignment and getting in 2a plus some 2a schools going to 1a.

    Alcoa could've dropped to 2A. They didn't

Wanted to tell you both congratulations on a great season. From one Carter County sports dad to another I'm sure it was a heck of a ride. Maybe next year we can give you boys a ball game. Again congrats on a terrific year.

Thanks Warrior, you're always a class act on here! Wish I had a kid left to play against you all one more time Lol

Gonna miss you ALL in a huge way, been a Great ride, as for 9 ,he's ready to go to work NOW.  As far as foolish people, its best to just ignore um. We didn't have a thing to prove to anyone, just a bunch of kids ,living a dream.

You know how to get ahold of me, anytime

Congrats to Westview, Picked you to win it all to start the season, Didn't really think you would be playing us but thought we might have a Chance of getting there. Proud of our kids, proved a lot of people wrong. Matchups are huge and you were a nightmare matchup for us, We wanted to just pound the ball and keep the ball all night and we had to alter that in our 1st drive, once you go away from you're game plan,it usually kills you eventually and it did us, I'm sure we could have kept it closer but were playing to win even if it got us destroyed. A loss is a loss.  We for sure lost to the best team in 2a. HATS OFF.

Eh, there's a couple who makes it hard to compliment em. Know what I mean? Reminds me of another past team we used to play in playoffs.

Glad you made it home safely. You and I been teamed up about 10 years and gonna miss the connection of having kids on the field together.  Been real!

Can't wait to see Levi next year. I know he'll work hard and be a beast!

Like I told you at our place in the quarters. Ain’t no shame losing to a better team. You can’t control how good or how prepared your opponent is. There’s not a thing you can do about that. All you can do is prepare and perform to the best of your ability. If the other team is better then so be it. It’s not as much about the outcome. Some did everything they possibly could their entire life to be ready for a game like that. No shame there. Those that didn’t prepare or perform to their maximum potential know it and that’s on them. Hopefully they use that as inspiration moving forward in life. No blame to any specific person or player either expressed or implied. Just in general. The better team won as they should. I would’ve traded places with Hampton in a heartbeat even if I had known the outcome. Even silver is a special year.

Agreed!  It was GREAT to be there. Sure, we didn't perform as we could have every play and made some BIG mistakes. Should it have been a tighter game? Yes, but not laying the L on any one player. It's a game and we lose sight of that sometimes.

ps. Yesterday had a GCA'ish feeling to it :roflolk:

If your on the 12 inch line,I would sneak it with 4.Coach got a little out of his wheel house a couple calls also. Not knocking him but,4 was giving it all he had him and 24.

And that's all you can ask of a kid. O line didn't make #9 the holes he needed to get going. Hated it for him.

Hampton had a couple bad plays go against them and got away form their gameplan. There are multiple scenarios where this game is much closer.

Riverside. RIVERSIDE, was head of Westview at halftime and had 18 points. Riverside was scoreless against Forrest at the half and finished with 15 points. It's all meaningless.  Saying this or that team would've beaten Hampton- it's just stupid. It's pointless. They weren't there. They didn't make it to the game. Hampton did.

If Hampton has 4-5 plays go their way its a nailbiter. Anyone who understands football will get that. I'll name an example 5. The two dimes #6 threw, the coverage was a not bad. They were 1 on 1 and could've gone incomplete, a pick, etc. Hampton's fumble, the disastrous series inside the 5 right before half.   The two picks. That's 6,

#6 killed more with his feet but when you give up TWO dimes back to back you leave that open. They panicked more on defense than they did offense. But the drive before half they neglected to put their beef in and run right at Westview and I am not sure why.

Super Bowls are often blowouts. They are the highest of high adrenaline games. The biggest emotional crashes come in these type games too.

Dissing Hampton's body of work, including  a come from behind against Trousdale, who could hang with any team in 1A or 2A, is foolish.

Good breakdown. Kinda helps to know football
