  1. This may sound crazy to some but i think you leave #4 at wlb and consider lucas birchfield at the olb/stand up end spot. If i have noticed right lucas is no longer starting at the cb position. he is getting playing time there but i think he could be some use at this spot. he has the size to shed of the blockers and the speed to contain the sweeps and the option. just my two cents worth
  2. if the cyclones play like they did tonight there is no doubt in my mind the cyclones win big. if the team that played hv shows up could be a long game for betsy. i was at the erwin hampton game and coi has got a quality do it all player in #13. he is there go to guy from what i witnessed. the qb is young and inexperienced. put pressure on him and he folds. he mishandled several snaps and got to throwing a little out of control at times when under pressure. the cyclone oline should man handle the devil front leaving turner holes to run through and berry all the time in the world to hit his targets. cyclones should roll fairly easy but it all depends on which group shows up. (anyone got word on the injury of austin nanney #40? heard acl but i hope thats not the case. hate for that young mans senior season to end like that)
  3. i agree with you 100% on that. he is a big strong kid that aint scared to drop his head and pick up those tuff yards. berry using his legs tonight helped tremendously. Another huge attribute that has went unnoticed the past few weeks is andy curtis back on the sidelines. he is a fantastic mentor to berry. whatever andy has said to him as improved that young mans confidence and ability as qb.
  4. for the most part betsy looked very good! berry I.M.O. played his best game of the season tonight. He was on target but most importantly he made good decisions with the football. He has progressed and keeps getting better with experience. turner played spectacular getting crucial yards. as for pagan he did not really impress me as much as i thought he would. He is a good athlete but i dont believe he is sec worthy. Two plays i believe that changed this ball game was the bad snap and the penalty we declined. Yes i know some think the ball game was already over at that pt but Witten needed to decline the holding call and let it go to 4th down. Who knows you go down and score which we are very capable of and hey it could be a totally different game who knows. But why in the world would you put berry in the gun on 3 and goal from the 2. you showed before that you can run right up the gut and punch it in. I.M.O. that play swung momentum to asheville but all in all greatly improved from weeks past. keep up the hard work boys! Go Cyclones!!!
  5. The cyclones have some serious issue to address next week in practice. First and foremost the passing game. After watching them for the past 3 friday nights this has to be fixed if betsy wants to be a contender. Yes Berry is struggling at times, but it is not all his fault. He threw several good balls that were very catchable that his receivers just dropped. We had several opportunities to make big plays but the Wr's let the ball slip through their hands. Yes I will say that Berry has thrown his share of bad balls. A couple for sure that he should not have tried to thread it in. The part that kills me the worst is the penalties. There is no excuse in racking up that many yards due to lack of discipline. I know from experience from playing that you sometimes get frustrated but you have to think about the consequences before you engage in extra curricular activity after the whistle is blown. But all in all betsy's run game looked solid. the backs are finding the holes and hitting them. I believe if berry can get some more experience and settle down that he can get the job done. He showed great composure marching his team down the field to pay dirt. He threw a good ball to ray that put them in scoring position. But what was witten thinking to try an on side kick there? that was very dangerous in my opinion. If happy valley gets it there you give them a short field to work with. What does everyone else think of that decision? i think that is a risk that you just dont take in that situation. Our d had held them pretty much all game. HV had not proven that they could throw on us. Why not let your defense win you the ball game? The game is not exactly what was expected from the cyclones but we still found a way to pull out a W. At the end of the day thats all that matters. My hat goes off to the warrior players and coaches. You all came out fired up and ready to play unlike us. Thats just my 2 cents worth
  6. sir i do have respect for Elizabethton High School Athletics. But when a coach allows a player to come out wearing a white tee shirt over the top of his uniform what kind of respect does this coach show for the program? If this was to occur at Hampton would that not light a fire under your fans? i will admit to you that Hampton monday night played lights out and deserved the win. they were prepared and executed to the tee. Elizabethton has yet to play to their full ability due to their lack of preparation. A good coach will find a way to motivate his players and get their motors running to come out with fire and passion to play to the best of their abilities. I have the upmost respect for coaches that dedicate their time and knowledge in shaping student athletes;coaches that give every ounce of their energy in trying to make the program a better place than the found it. Sir if you were at the contest monday you would have seen the gym slam packed for the girls contest on both home and away sides. As soon as the girls games were finished the the gym cleared on the betsy side. This program was at one time one of the elite programs in the area where the gym would be packed night in and night out. Their needs to be a change at the helm of betsy. A change that the football boys have adopted a "return to dominance." We need a coach that has the passion and love for the game as well as wanting to mold young men like coach witten has brought to the football program. like a fellow coach t blogger said respect is earned not given. GO CYCLONES!!!!!!
  7. I know one job that needs to become open is the ELizabethton High Boys Basketball! Marty and his "coaching staff" has done nothing but bring embarrassment to the boys program. They have no motivation and not an ounce of fire on the sideline. Street does not make use of his players in key moments. He has a couple of stand-out shooters on the bench that he never allows to touch the court. The final straw for most fans, alumni, and parents when street allowed a player to come out after half-time wearing a white shirt over top of his uniform. That shows zero respect not only for street, but Elizabethton in general. Its time for a change in coaching. For a coach that demands respect and knows how to use his line-up. Anyone that has encountered the cyclones over the past 4 seasons knows they have had talent to succeed but have had zero coaching as well as no preparation. Maybe after another loosing season against schools half our size the school board will finally realize its time to say good-bye to street!
