  1. Surprising, I thought they might move away from the old staff, but Shively was brought to DB to be an assistant on Graham's staff. It will be interesting to see if anything will change. I won't lie, this hire is disappointing. However, I will be rooting for Coach Christian to succeed. Didn't Christian coach a game two years ago against Jeff Co. that DB lost?

  2. I know everything you just said. A couple years ago we won a total of ten games in both basketball and football. DB currently does not have the same type of athletes it has had. The demographics have changed. Kingsport isn't a growing as a city. However, I  was field level last week and seen Clark multiple times and it was obvious he is past his time. I heard the fans disgust at the lose of the lead. It's obvious a change needs to be made. The next coach might not win like the fans want them to, but there is a lot of frustration at DB and a change is the best thing that could happen for DB football.

  3. Catswild, you have no clue what you are talking about. You need to focus on what you know and thats Oak Ridge football. Waco is right, things have not been the same since Watson was coaching. Also, Graham is past his prime, which was in the early 2000s. No one in Kingsport has faith in him, not even the players. He should have made a change of scenery a few years ago, but he continues to hold on. Even though his record looks good it does not tell the true story. DB needs new blood to energize the program.

  4. I know Waco mentioned this before, but the defensive backs for DB do not understand how to play that position. Sometimes their in the right spot they just do not have the technique to make the plays they should. Also, i noticed they lack awareness of what is going on.

Regarding these penalties it's a lack of mental toughness and discipline. We see this every year. You would think the coach would work to correct this.

  5. From what I heard:

If DB would have beaten Oakland AND won state this year then they would be 1 game behind DB.

Also, the Defensive Line coach is leaving to focus on teaching and the Secondary coach is leaving so he can spend time with his family. LB's and DC still on staff from what I heard last.

Any idea who they might hire. It looks the old guard has finally left. I hate to see those guys leave, because all DB has been hiring is former players who didn't play football in college or played at small schools. It may be time to find a coach in waiting to energize the program.
  6. Very tough schedule for DB next year. I hope the boys work hard in the weight room and get together and focus on 7 on 7 and route running. I didn't realize how much Farragut had improved until yesterday. There will be no easy game next year. Also times news verified that this will be the schedule. http://www.timesnews.net/Football/2016/12/03/Rivalry-games-on-the-move-but-Mason-Dixon-Bowl-returns.html?ci=stream&lp=6&p=1

  7. I remember several years ago at a football banquet when coach Carter had just taken the SH job.GC made a smart remark while speaking about how he would beat him there the same as he had against South. He did win the first two or three matchups. That's the same time I was writing that SH was the team I thought would have a chance in this area to beat DB down the road the most.I knew SH was making changes and DB needed to in a few area's.DB needed a change at the top and I dare not say it because of what could happen in retaliation.Well,I should have a long time ago and maybe mine and this group would have had someone they wanted to play for and respect the way DB players once did Clark. The price has been paid by the many kids that grew up wanting to play for DB and have a chance to be a part of something special. There have been many pay the price besides the kids as I've also said .Now the tax payers join in @ 10000 more for each round of the playoffs. With Maryville,Blackman and Oakland in the 3 rounds coming up,my prediction of a state title several years ago with " a few changes " looks as likely as GC never having a smartas remark. It's possible but not likely.

I think you are right about the lack of respect. I also think no one in Kingsport believes Graham has what it takes. I think it would be best of he had a change of scenery. South or Central or many other local schools would love to have him, but he has been at DB to long. DB needs a fresh start and someone that can energize the kids and the fanbase.

  8. Graham Clark, you're fired.  You made zero adjustments during halftime.  You don't even know how to adjust anymore. But always with the clarkisms.  If you care about your school, step down.  And stop blaming the team in comments to the media.

Your correct that he needs to step down if he cares about the school. The fan support is dwindling. No one from DB is on here and no one in town talks about DB like they used to.

Batman, he is. And he's only going to get better. I just don't get how GC and his staff didn't see this coming. Everyone who has seen SH play this season knows the Toppers scheme is to run the quarterback because he doesn't have a great arm.

That's what I have been saying. Put at least eight in the box and press the receivers and make Adams throw it deep. I could see from watching the local news that Adams does not have much of an arm.

  9. The AD hire probably gave Graham a couple more years. From what I have been told the AD knows Graham very well. I was hoping they would hire someone with no connections to the coaches in the program. I have a hard time seeing Shively unless he has to. However, it will be interesting to see if Charlie survives if they have another bad season.

  10. Does anyone know if DB athletics has been any worse than it has been this year? While we don't have the best coaches, some of it is the players. It's time for Kingsport and DB to fix the feeder system these kids are coming up in or it is only going to get worse. Does anyone know of any changes that could occur or any suggestions on what needs to happen?

  11. Just saw this in another thread by TNbroadcaster. Thought it would be good to put here. While I think we need a new coach, everyone is going to have to be all in to change the system when the new coach is here.

As we look back of the past year broadcasting games all over this state and in Alabama there once again is a common theme. The schools that have built a program from middle school on up with a consistent theme and step by step program always seem to come out on top. Yes, there are teams that occasionally have a few talented players that take them to the next level for a year or two only to fall back into the pack in the next few years. These are the team that usually face the program teams in the finals each year only to loose. We see these teams with that special talented player riding their backs into a good season every year. So, what does it take to be on top year after year? Its the development of the program from middle school on up. Weight training, conditioning, utilizing the same football scheme through out the entire program. We see these team reload every year and if you take a hard look these teams all do one thing and that's playing consistent fundamentally sound football and don't make a lot of mistakes. You only have to look at the number of players these schools put into division 1. It's always on a lower percentage than many of the other schools in the state. Why is that? It's because these teams were taught to play correctly and develop correctly. They all have the same common theme and a coach that lives and breaths the program. So, does throwing money at the program work? No, we see this all the time with that one financially secure parent willing the throw their money into the school in order to have their kid get a leg up on everyone else but after them move on so does their money. a school, its principal, the school board and every coach has to be on board to make the program work. Paul Brown, the late coach and owner of the Browns and the Bengals when he was a high school coach in Lima Ohio made it a practice to deliver a football to every new born baby boy born in the town. Why did he do this? To set the tone for the program. Every young man in that town grew up wanting to play at Lima and for Coach Brown. You see , its all about the program that makes the success. What is your school doing..

  12. Don't know all the particulars f what is going on there, but I am inclined to believe that offensively and defensively if the scheme has not changed or been tweeked from game 1 to 11 then their should be some considerations there.  You guys do have talent and size regardless of what anyone else on this thread has said. It looked like being out of position at several positions was the culprit alot of this last game. That being said if you don't correct(truly work with that player ) you can expect people to continue to pick on that. I do hope that whatever happens you guys get it worked out . Good luck and God Bless THE DB Nation.

What you mention is part of the problem at DB. Politics are bad at DB. About every year there is a guy our two out there who should not be out there.

  13. I just think you need to include the years that DB played in the Big East Conference. That was not that long ago. You don't need to go back to the 1950's. If you include the Big East in you're stats that blows up everything. Those were the most successful years in modern times for DB football. I think 2008 was the last year of the Big East. There were no weak local teams on the schedule. DB won the Big East championship every year but one. With the exception of Science Hill (a larger school than DB) all the other teams in the conference were west of Morristown.  Coach Watson had some problems in his last years that we don't know about. He passed away a couple years after leaving DB. In my opinion he was the best DC in Tennessee high school football in his prime. And was a great motivator. DB football has been in a steady decline ever since his loss. They have made terrible choices in replacing him. Thats why I keep tell you guys to look a little deeper than these stats you keep pulling out. It has nothing to do with the competition. It's coaching on the defense side. Plain and simple.

Waco, your right the defensive staff is the problem. The coaches show after the Bearden game showed that the defensive coordinator was in over his head. I think Clark is going to have to go to correct these problems. He might not have all the control over his staff, but he has some. Some of the latest additions to the staff are former players and few did not even play college football.

  14. Well, the coaching in some areas may lacking, but: I've heard excuses from "we need to play a tougher regular season schedule", to talk of demographics or enrollment, to the AD, to head coaching, to the lack of a good strength program, even that the only thing important to the kingsport is the band. I don't think I've ever heard anyone simply say, maybe, just maybe, Kingsport simply is not as good and not as talented. It's been my observation, from living all over Tennessee, and from history itself, DB, sorry, but you just aren't as good as the other big schools in the state. But you have an upper deck and a hamburger themed jumbo board. ;)

Pudding you may be right. However, politics is killing DB. Every year there is one or two players out there who are not benefiting the team. Many times these players are hurting the team. Another problems is DB is not putting their best out on the field together. For example, number 16 should have been getting reps at receiver while number 13 was still playing. In addition, at the start of the season 5 and 4 should have been getting reps together on the field. Later in the season they start playing 5 in the slot and in the backfield with 4, but this should have occurred earlier. I don't know if DB's coaches are afraid of how the fans are going to react,  but they are going to have to start playing the best to be competitive. In addition, I think there may have been sophomores on the sidelines who could have helped this year, but they had to wait their turn because the coaches were afraid of how the fans are going to react.

  15. Let's see... Greeneville has won state recently and it hasn't been that long ago since Hampton took home a gold ball.  A lot of teams from the Knoxville area (like Maryville, Fulton, Knox West) won it last year.  Coalfield played for state in 1A last year...

Now, once you get east of Morristown, Greeneville's the only one from the region to win state recently, mostly because of those buzzsaws in Maryville, Fulton, Knox West, Alcoa, and CAK that just destroy everyone.  That's not a coaching issue as much as it is about talent and school size: our region only has 2 6A schools (3 if you count Jeff County, who won state titles in the 80s).

NETN is full of slow white kids with a 2% black population--mediocre black athletes at the handful of schools who have them shred NETN competition week in and week out..  In Knoxville, those numbers go up substantially, as does the number of college talent.  Tri Cities and NETN schools just don't produce that.  It's not on the coaches: it's demographics.

I will agree with you to some extent that demographics is important. However, Victor, how do you explain Maryville's success? I agree, that demographics can be very helpful. However, you also have to have a good feeder system and coach. I will state that there is to much politics happening at DB for them to be successful. It seems like every year there is a couple of guys out there that makes you question what's going on.

  16. I agree with rolltriberoll that it is time for some new blood and to start a new era at DB. I don't think Clark is the man for the job as AD. If you keep him on there is no way to get a fresh start. However, I do believe he should get the field named after him. I wouldn't mind Shawn Witten being hired. I like the fact that he played D-1 football and also was a grad assistant at UT. Kingsport will need to allow him to hire every and anyone he wants to. Johnson City allowed Stacy Carter to hire who he needed and we see how that played out.
