  2. Just curious if other teams in the state have had issues with other teams forfeiting/cancelling games, especially district games....seems that Notre Dame has been plagued by other teams forfeiting/cancelling games this season:

ND v SILVERDALE Originally scheduled, and cancelled by Silverdale right before season began

ND v SEQUATCHIE COUNTY- District game forfeited by Sequatchie County

ND v RIVERDALE- Last minute cancellation by Riverdale...Coach didn't know it was on their schedule ??? (But it was on their own school website schedule !)

ND v SEQUATCHIE COUNTY-District Tournament Game next week (Oct 19th)already forfeited by Sequatchie County...

    D

Yes, Oak Ridge has lost 2 games from the regular season with one due to sickness on the visiting team which we could never agree a re-schedule date and a cancellation from our senior night opponent due to fall break (not enough players available). I am not sure what the rules say in these situations other than they are just games lost and have no effect on the overall record.

It is very frustrating when the lost games could keep two of our senior players from reaching a milestone 100 varsity games. I guess in the end we control our own destiny in the going forward in the playoffs but frustrating none the less.

  3. Thanks for all the input. At first, it didn't make a bit of sense to me. But after reading these comments, I can understand it. Most high schools wouldn't see a difference in being ejected in a football game or getting a red card. So in that sense, I can see the logic. I just wasn't aware of the rule. Thanks for all the help!!!! (fortunately, I didn't make an a@@ of myself at the game where this was called)

Hey Tenn, don't sweat it. Those of us who have graduated from the certified side line referee school know that knowledge of the rules doesn't matter when you are yelling. It's all about the emotion, not the facts. :flower:

  4. Care to share details?

Reporting from Ohio but my source tells me that that OR controlled the game for the most part, however, like all Bearden teams; they did not quit and got the equalizer on a questionable goal. Of course SoccerCatDad would call it questionable even from Ohio. Good game from our freshmen and a senior defender scored our goal on a header.

No major injuries on either side which is the more important result at this time of year.

  5. Gracie Irby converted two free kicks for GHS and was 2-1 at half...fairly balanced game by half....ND came out with alot of pressure first 10-12 mins of 2nd half and GHS scored on a counter attack finished by Anna Leslie. ND did have one nice scoring opp late but GHS keeper made great save.

GHS is slowly getting better due to mulitple reasons...not gonna dominate teams but they will come up and bite a good one every now and then.

ND has a good team....heard they are down from previous years....#5 and #12 really stood out...

FYI per canes food message...deli mexicana is awesome...nothing like you have ever had before...on gtown parkway across the street from the chick fila near Humphreys Blvd....Gtown Commissary for BBQ, ribs, deviled eggs, bananna pudding, sweet tea...can't go wrong.....lastly, Osaka (sushi) on Houston Levee Rd on left just south of poplar ave...try the Jamaican Roll!

Germantown played us very tough today. Their keeper kept us at bay in the 1st half with some quality saves. Our left back came up and scored from about 25 yards on a shot that was virtually unstoppable. Gtwon came out strong in the 2nd half and took the game to us for the better part of 10 minutes but were unable to equalize. Our last goal came late on a good play by one of forwards to get past the keeper. A well played game but the heat index did take a toll on both teams in the 2nd half. I was very surprised no water breaks were required.

  6. Its Germantown Commissary or bust!

Sharkey's was not too bad but I did not realize that Canes had pre-paid for all pizza at Mellow Mushroom. :hungry: I needed a few brews after the Houston game so I am sorry that I went down Poplar a bit too far.

  7. Mellow Mushroom will give you $2.00 off a large pizza.

Mention you are guests at the RIVALs Soccer Tournament. If you get interference, just ask for Cary.

    Mellow Mushroom

    9155 Highway 72 (Poplar Ave)

    Germantown, TN 38138

From Houston Field: Just take Johnson road (traffic light at school) south to Poplar Ave, turn right, a couple blocks down on the left...directly across from Target

From Collierville field: Take Byhalia South to Polar Ave. Turn right (west) on Poplar and drive to Germantown Target, about 6-7 miles down on your left (look for Target).

Thanks for the suggestion Canes , we know better than to go where the team goes.

  8. Well you gotta start somewhere

I'm curious about Dobyns-Bennett are the scores correct? Are they really 0-4?

Actually 0-6-1, tough start for coach Woods. My Eurosports tab says these are 2009 rankings (noted as Mon Sep 6, 10 (20:22) 08/22/10 2009 Final Ranking) not 2010

  9. Even with the abbreviated list from years back, it still was a good tournament and people had fun.

The two KY teams are state ranked, and the game between them was very good. It was a fast, competetive match with physical play, and a couple yellow cards. Bang bang fair challenges had players being sent off for trainer care. Greenwood's starting keeper is probably as good as anyone in TN. Last year, in the good game against St. Benedict, she was literally flying everywhere and made the all tournament team as a sophomore. For this game, they were cycling their GKs. Their number 2 GK fell on her hand late in the game and had to leave. With their Number 3 stopping some good hard shots, Dunbar scored on a very nice cross with 5 min left for the 3-1 final. This was an exciting match to watch.

This tournament almost did not happen for well documented reasons and it is a miracle this came about considering the late start in planning. There are alot of people behind the scenes that made it happen. Hats off to all of them. Teams that came should be commended. Teams that did not return, could do so in the future when they realize that the host school will remain very competetive under the new era with a very young team. With the tournament continuity, teams will be willing to come back and new teams will want to come. Even more so, there could be a window of opportunity for cooperation between the two Knoxville area schools that hold Labor Day tournaments.

OTP, you are correct in that both Kentucky teams were quality opponents. As you note above, Greenwood played St. Benedict extremely well last year and played all of the Tennessee teams at the Katie Hunter XIII well. Also Dunbar played in a middle Tennessee tournament last year and played Brentwood Academy and Centennial very tough. We appreciate ALL teams coming to Katie Hunter XIV and for us to have the opportunity to keep the tournament going. This an Oak Ridge tradition in honoring Katie and providing quality soccer. Despite what easttnref may think, this past weekend continued that tradition.

  10. Thanks. OR should be an interesting barometer.

It appears that we will be a barometer for several of the mjuhb ranked teams as we (Oak Ridge) play the AAA #1 (Houston), #4 (Bearden), #8 (Farragut), #15 (Catholic), #18 (Hardin Valley) and #21 (Germantown) teams in addition to #1 D2 AA Baylor. Last year Houston was, by far, the best team we played but we did not play Baylor. Houston looks to have just re-loaded this year.

  11. Well there's a few changes....

    1..Baylor

    2..GPS

    3..Fighting Leprechauns

    4..CCS

    5..Cleveland

    5..Soddy Daisy

    7..Signal Mtn

    8..McMinn Co

    9..East Hamilton

    10..The Wah

    10..Hixson

I guess we will find out how accurate you are during the week of September 13th. We play GPS on the 14th and Baylor on the 19th in Memphis. The Fighting Leprechauns were very good when we played them in an end of pre-season scrimmage on the 19th of August. I know Baylor is a perennial power and GPS has been very good each of the last 3 years we have played them...so ALL will be tough games.
