  1. Alumn89, you are correct. CCHS did play 2 sophs (one Soph was hurt in December) during the JV game against Cookeville, but their main contributors are freshmen. The freshman that has been starting some lately played a quarter in that game back in December against Cookeville. He's hasn't played any JV games since then. Our 3 Sophs are getting better - I think because of playing with these freshmen players. Our freshmen (now Sophs) last year didn't win a game during the freshmen season - several of them quit and one transferred to Stone. This year, CCHS has 3 freshmen on Varsity and no Sophs. I wish we could get a Cookeville/CCHS freshmen game together. I watched the Cookeville team play twice this weekend - they have a good quality group.
  2. I thought CCHS did some things well against White Co. last week, but obviously not enough. We kept Henderson in check/frustrated (9 points). But, Cade (00) killed us with his 24 pts. took control in the 2nd half. We would need one of those perfect games on our end (Carter Game) to beat 'em.
  3. A month ago, I thought the Jets would be capable of beating anyone in the district - not so confident now - we need to step up next two weeks and make some noise. I still think we can if the planets are aligned right. Hopefully, we get our sharp shooter (Smith) back before tourney time - they have missed him last two weeks. How do the tourney seedings work? #1 and #2 both get byes? Are playins #3 and #6 on #1 side and #4 and #5 on the #2 side?
  4. You're right 90Warrior, time to move on. I hope you're prediction is correct. It looks like Cookeville pulled it out against Warren in the final.
  5. Plateauvol, yes - at least one parent has talked with coaches and athletic director. The principal wasn't involved. I understand what you are alluding to and it is a good point. Hopefully a meeting with all involved will happen soon.
  6. Not aware of any communication with players or parents on explanation.
  7. They had a couple of options. They had options to start the game with five players and finish with 4. Stone and their coaches agreed to allow a Soph to play, but it was denied by CCHS.
  8. This was very unfortunate, our boys were very disappointed they didn't get to play. They had made it through the season un-defeated - 9-0 (played Cookeville only 1 time). If the tourney had been seeded properly, we shouldn't have had to play until Saturday and our sick player might be better then. There were other options available, but the CCHS admin didn't seek to take advantage - just a disappointing situation.
  9. For the freshmen tourney game tonight, we've got one that isn't feeling well. Hoping we can start with 5 and play/finish with 4. If not, we've got a few boys that will be furious! Like you guys, we only have 5 freshmen that are cleared by doctors to play. Trying to get another kid cleared by his doctor for just standing on the court if needed (broken hand bone). It's crazy.
  10. Can a basketball team start and play a game under TSSAA rules with only 4 players?
  11. Good win White Co.. My Lady Jets had to shoot less than 25% - I'm not saying the Warriorettes didn't have anything to do with that (they did), but we couldn't hit a barn - 3's or layups. Hopefully, home court will help us next time and in the district tourney.
  12. Crosland put on a clinic from the three line; I really enjoy watching him play ball. CCHS is at low point right now.
  13. District 6AAA showdown tonight in Sparta with the Lady Warriors and Lady Jets, game winner gets the inside track on district crown. Very impressed with White County this year; they are the team to beat in the Upper Cumberland. Lady Jets will need their best game of the year at their place.
  14. Smith is out for several weeks with shoulder issues for the Jets. Big loss from 3pt line. Others need to step up.
  15. Heading to Sparta tonight to watch the Jets and Warriors. It might get ugly? Hoping the Jets can show up and be competitive - we shall see.
  16. I think expectations for CCHS teams needs to raised up a few notches by all involved - admin, coaches, players, and fans. All folks involved need to evaluate themselves, the program, practices, playbook, attitude, commitment, etc.. What can we do to improve? What do "I" need to be doing differently to raise the program to better levels, what can we do to help build better players and young men? It's like any business or sales team - if we are not performing, meeting goals then we need to evaluate our processes and procedures - we need to change to better habits and methods - we need to emulate those that are having success - we need to seek out the advice of those that have experienced success on bigger levels than we have experience at. "Seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened" - good bible reference that applies to most things in life!
  17. Here's the bracket: CCHS plays Warren Co. Thursday at 5pm - (Main Gym) winner to play Rhea Co. on Saturday at 11 in the top bracket - winner plays in champ game from upper bracket. Stone plays White Co. on Thursday at 5pm (Aux Gym) - winner plays in champ game from lower bracket. Should be a CCHS/Stone Champ game on Saturday at 2pm - Main Floor.
  18. AlcoaBasketball, how is the freshman, Tykee playing? I've always known his last name as Kellogg, but I think he goes by something different in H.S..
  19. If varsity starters are playing the same day/night on the junior varsity team, then it looks like a violation according to TSSAA.
  20. Not sure about that. From my understanding, it was agreed on that this would be a Freshmen/Soph season / tourney this year with no restrictions how many sophs could play. In years past, there was a limit to 3 sophs on a team on the girls side. I'm not sure what the class make up is at other schools; I do know that Stone has been playing a couple of juniors in the Fresh/Soph games when I have seen them play CCHS which I don't have a problem with because they don't make that much of a difference. CCHS only has one healthy freshman that can play right now. CCHS's soph class is large with 10 girls. Two of them start on varsity, so they don't play Fresh/Soph or JV games, but the other 8 sophs do.
  21. I've seen this happen recently on the girls side. But, there is a TSSAA rule against Varsity starters playing JV on the same day/night (copied above from 2014-2015 TSSAA site/handbook). Only varsity substitutes are allowed to play on JV. I just don't think it is monitored closely and most people including coaches are un-aware of the rule.
