  1. Tullahoma looks like they have a pretty good team, Lawrence County isn't doing too bad either after a rough start.

Although a little biased, I do feel like Lawrence County could give some teams trouble when it comes to tournament time. Am I saying that they are a lock for the championship? No, but Shaen Clark's Wildcat teams are always notorious for being scrappy and full of hustle, and this year's team is no exception. They played Columbia and Tullahoma very close for their only two district losses so far. Heath Mansfield is having a fantastic season for the Wildcats as well. Also, the fact that the Tournament is being hosted in Lawrenceburg will give Lawrence Co. a huge advantage, as Ralph Benson Memorial is a gym with a great atmosphere, and a very tough place to play

  2. This game was ridiculous from the start. Summertown really played terrible. If they were playing any other team in the state they would have lost by 20. One unexpected event in this game was how BAD Lawrence County was. I'm lobbying for a match up between Lawrence County and Coffman Middle School.(BARN BURNER). Another Unexpected thing from this game was well I can't say unexpected because it happens everytime two in county rivals play, The refs make a show out of the game. There's nothing more upsetting than a group of refs (or 1) who honestly thinks the sold out gym is there to see him. It takes the game away from the players who prepare eveyday to come out and play. At one point in the game Summertown had 18 fouls to LAW CO's 5. They allowed 0 contact AT ALL, which is probably a blessing because if Summertown wasn't in foul trouble the game could have gotten out of hand early. At the end of the game Summertown Walked over Lawrence County by 23 but the score didn't show how terrible the game actually was from every aspect. Atleast the girls game was entertaining.

Gotta give credit to Summertown they beat Lawrence County handily, but in the Wildcats defense, we did lose every starter from arguably the best team ever to come out of Lawrenceburg last year. Typical Summertown fan though, always complaining about officiating. When there was a foul, they called it, bottomline. Why not try to congratulate your team on a victory instead of downgrade their performance. I'm sure Coach Trotter doesn't need hometown heroes like you to tell his team what they did wrong. When the Wildcats find their stroke from behind the 3point arc, things should get better

  3. Congrats to Mcminn Co. Although this was a very intense game, both teams displayed a great deal of character. Well, there were a couple of students in the Cherokee student section who were very politely telling us we were number one if you know what I mean. But, other than that it was a great game all the way around. Here's my only statement about the whole officiating thing: 10 LC fouls to Mcminn's 3 fouls at one point in the second half. (a little one sided maybe?!?!) That being said, Mcminn Co. still played well enough to win the game. There were times when I asked myself if the Cherokees were ever gonna miss a shot! Congrats to both teams and good luck to the Cherokees in the BORO. BTW, that #10's from Lawrence County's name is Trent Garland, and if you think he's good at basketball, you should see him play football!

  4. Great game played by both teams last night. Lawrence Co. made some mistakes in the second half that they could not overcome. Mciminn seemed to carry the momentum the entire second half. Although I hardly ever like to complain about officiating, I will try to bring a fact into this argument instead of simply an opinion. At one point in the second half, the foul count in the game was 10 fouls for Lawrence County to 3 for Mcminn County. Keep in mind, that this was before the Wildcats used the strategy of fouling late in the game. This did not win the game for the Cherokees, but it could have factored in somewhat.

  5. No need to worry about places to eat LC will pack a lunch and be prepared to play all out for 4 quarters. Players have already left and got a hotel in Cleveland. School will let out at 11 tomorrow for the 3 1/2 hour drive to Mcminn. Good luck CATS from Giles County.

Dad times Five, haven't heard much from you around the Lawrence County message boards. Hope all is going well. As you stated, the boys did leave around one o' clock this afternoon and will spend the night at Cleveland tonight. There will also be one, possibly two pep buses departing from Lawrenceburg around 12 or 1 tomorrow afternoon who will be ready to watch a great game. I think it is also worth noting that as previously stated this is the first trip to substate for both teams, which will hopefully make some for some passionate, emotional basketball. One more thing, Is Mcminn County very large down low or are they more of a run n' gun type team? I think either way Lawrence County should be able to adapt and eventually execute their gameplan.

  6. Didn't see much talk about either teams on the message boards so I guess I'll try to get some chatter going. Lawrence County will travel to Athens, Tn (maybe?) to take Mcminn County Monday. Don't know really anything about Mcminn County, maybe people can provide some insight on their team. Lawrence County has a long trip ahead of them. This being said, Lawrence County will bring a great crowd. This is the first sub-state game for Lawrence County in 40+ years, so our community is very excited and proud for the Wildcats. Hopefully some folks from east Tennessee can shed some light on Mcminn County.

  7. Can't wait for this game tomorrow night at Lavergne. I'm sure Riverdale being relatively close to Lavergne will bring a huge fan base, and expect many Lawrence County fans to brave the hour and a half drive to Lavergne in support of the Lady Cats. These teams did meet in the first game of the season, where Riverdale won by around 20 points. It should be a very tight game next time around though. Can't speak for the Lady Warriors, but the Lady Wildcats seem to be hitting their stride at just the right time. Don't wanna make any crazy predictions, but it is very possible that the momentum from this win could propel the winner all the way to the state championship.

  8. Fc Rebel 22, I agree with you about Columbia. Looking at their team, they obviously have great size and athleticism. They should definitely have won more games than they did this year. That being said, they could be dangerous during tournament time, if they come together as a team. I also think either Lincoln County or Franklin County will pull off an upset of somebody in the Tournament. (just hope to goodness it's Lawrence County lol). Both of these teams just strike me as the type of teams that are capable of rising up to their competition level and beating a team better than them.

  9. Just wondering... Where has everyone gone that was posting on this topic?? It's been two weeks without a post. I would like to congratulate both Lawrence County boys and girls for wrapping the regular season district championship Saturday night, as well as remaining undefeated going into the last district game of the season. Another shout-out to Lawrence County's Trent Garland for scoring his 1'000th point Tuesday night at Columbia.

  10. You might want to read into the reply I was giving. Also, you might want to check my picks I posted on 7 Nov where I have Lawrence Co. as my favorite. My sarcasm was directed to the post that was bashing 8AAA and your Wilcats. What you mis-interpeted as me insulting your Wildcats was me referring that some schools like Lawrence Co do not have a readily supply of AAA schools within driving distance to validate the extra expenditure for the cost of transportation and meals (that include us too). We just got back from playing Blackman in front of a whooping 50-60 people in the stands, plus our boys and girls team looked liked they didn't even want to be there in the middle of the week.

What I was referring to about the Geography and Economics lesson was in reference to location and not LCs academics. And if you had taken some time to read my response properly you would have seen I was referring to his comment. That if he had spent time looking at a map he would notice that Lawrence Co isn't exactly near a major metropolitan area such Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville where you can travel ten minutes and fill up a schedule with AAA teams. And I'm fully aware how much money can be generated playing rival games and keeping the gym full and the concession hopping.

As for the parity, we really don't have a dominant team and while Lawrence Co is 5-0 they still have to play Columbia twice and Tullahoma at their place (didn't exactly dominate them at home did you?). However, your Wildcats are about the only team in district that is playing more consistant than the others and I wouldn't be suprised if they went 10-0 in district. I am somewhat suprised that Columbia is playing up and down like they are but I expect them to be ready for the tourney. As for your response, sounds like a touch too much of arrogance. Plus, that was sarcasm in reference to the Seigal game last year (I know what the score was). You might want to take a course in Reading Comprehension though....and you might want to read he posted on the Tullahoma vs Lincoln Co thread...

Now you're making a little more sense. Sorry I misread your previous post. Might have overreacted a little bit. Yes, Tullahoma did play us very close in the last game, and we do still have to travel there this year. But, don't read too much into the away game. Tullahoma isn't exactly a basketball town, and do not have the home advantage that they do in football or baseball. We play Columbia tomorrow weather permitting, so hopefully we can show up and play well. I guess I see what you're saying about parity now, which should make for an interesting tournament, with a couple of upsets and such.

  11. Everyone has seemed to forget this fact while talking about "parity". LAWRENCE COUNTY IS 5-0 IN THE DISTRICT. No one has said this. How can you not say that they are the front runner right now???? I do not know how they will fare in the region tourney against the Siegels and Riverdales, but we are talking 8AAA on this thread. HEY FC REBEL 22: If you want to have a knowledge bowl against Lawrence County to back up your bashing of our academic system, I'm game. Four of our 8 A games were in county rivals that are HUGE money games for both schools. So actually yes FC REBEL 22, we were studying our economics and geography when we scheduled these games. Siegel took it to Lawrence County????? I remember a one point game that came down to a missed last second shot. That game could have gone either way.

  12. What is a sad thing to me in 8AAA girls basketball is the Franklin County Lady Rebels. This team of very athletic and talented girls have not had any luck in the coaching departement. Their senior and junior girls had John Wild, and excellent coach, then I can't remember who coached them last year, and now some psycho. If Wild had stayed, and I understand moving on, I am NOT faulting him by no means, those girls would be state bound. They have impressed me EVERYTIME I see them play. My heart goes out to them this year with the badgering they take, night in and night out. Keep your heads up Lady Rebels! You are an amazing set of young women!

    [/quote

Coach Wild was a decent coach, but I would be very happy with your current coach. Honestly, I would choose anybody with the last name Insell over Coach Wild. Not to take anything away for Coach Wild, but I have no doubt Tom will have a top notch program at Franklin County in the near future.

  13. I'm a fan from outside District 8AAA. I saw LCHS's record and wondered how good they were. I know they have the Gilbert sisters that are VERY good but is that it? Are they as good as they think or do they play only weak teams? There record shows only two losses which come to two very good teams and the rest of their scores are blowouts. Does this mean they cant handle good teams? What are everyone's thoughts?

The Lady Cats travel to Shelbyville Tuesday night to take on the Eaglettes. This is the first game between the two this season. We should be able to tell a lot more about this team after this game. Lawrence Co. does benefit from a weak district this year. All that being said, they are a very good team. They can run with a team, and execute a half court offense well also. The weak schedule is not really Lawrence Co.'s fault, this is simply just a down year for the girls District 8aaa. Hopefully this won't be a problem, as they will face very good teams in the region tournament.

  14. obviously pretty much everyone knows about Shaq Mason signing with Georgia Tech. I think Kenneth Hughes will probable go somewhere, probably to a D1 school. It will also be interesting to see where Tra'darius Goff will wind up going. It will probably be to a very good school with a great football program. Does anybody know about some more guys that have potential to play at the next level? Surely on a state championship team there are some more players that are college potential.

  15. Sure, probably had something to do with it. The trip had a lot more to do with it, though. We were glad to get out of 8-AAA and lose the 2 hour haul to Lawrenceburg. Just isn't a fast way to get there. Then the football team goes and schedules games. I'm sure Lawrenceburg folks feel the same about the trip to Manchester. It just is a 2 hour trip that seems like 3.

Now, back to Tullahoma. Let's not hijack its thread.

True. The ride over there was absolutely horrible, and really no good way to get there. That is the last thing ill say about that. back to Tullahoma.

  16. Since we are 6-A I guess we are not a 5-A powerhouse. We lost Bradley Central and Lawrence Co. for 2011 and got Independence and Marshall County.

You didn't lose Lawrence County, you guys were tired of getting beat by them. Two years in a row there was a twottouchdown differential. Sounds like yall ran away from Lawrence County more than losing them.

  17. You are right who is Kedron Johnson ? The proper name is Kedren Johnson , thanks . Well everyone has bad nights so get over it. [Vanderbilt University] !

KEDREN did have a bad night, but you gotta give some credit to the Wildcats. They were partly responsible for KEDREN having a bad night. Lawrence County swarmed the ball on defense, and every shot KEDREN took was contested. KEDREN is a great player, no one is denying that. Titleist 18 was just trying to say that Lawrence County deserves some credit too.

  18. Definitely one of the best games I've seen in some time. Summertown was not shooting their norm from behind the arc and LawCo couldn't sink a basket from under the goal in the first qtr. The officiating was....normal (same play 2 minutes apart gets a different call). At least it was consistently crappy!

Volcat, I take slight issue with one of your statements: I think this game could have been a bigger blowout if LC had not been in foul trouble most of the game

Could it be that LC was holding on during parts of the game BECAUSE of the fouls? Had S'town played more aggressively and gotten themselves in the same trouble, then Garland might not have had the night he ended up with. It's not like the fouls didn't help/hurt either cause, they have a huge impact.

GREAT game! and I LOVE Summertown's intros!

You make a good point. I'm just saying that LC had 3 of their 5 starters foul out, and were forced a couple of sophomores to receive a lot of minutes. They never really got to come out in full force with the group that is used to playing together which would have made a big difference.

  19. Once again, congrats to the Eagles y'all really stepped it up last night against a 3A team. 3 for 18 from behind the arc or whatever it was isn't good, but Summertown made some crucial shots last night that really killed momentum for Lawrence County. I will also say again how glad I am that we are playing this game again. A lot of these guys have been playing against or with other since the fourth grade in intramural leagues, etc. Coffman, New Prospect, Summertown all play each other in middle school. I think it is the only logical step to play each other in High School. I want to also give a shout-out to the staff at Summertown. For a tiny gym, you guys did a great accommodating all of the fans last night.
