  1. Both teams have already lost quality players due to injuries. Moore County was drilled last week by Wayne County and Cornersville has yet to play a regular season game. These games seem to have a history of being very close. For those who don't know there is a Moore County and Cornersville tie-in. Cornersville principal Bob Edens is from Moore County and played football for Moore County. Who takes this one?

  2. Coach David (Punk) O'Connor brings his Bobcats to Lincoln Co. and returns home. You've got to wonder what the Lincoln Co. crowd reaction will be like to coach O'connor, after the way he bolted from the Lincoln Co. Head coaching job. This should be a dandy and could get very interesting!!!

  3. Actually McCurry left Moore County in 1998. His last team there was picked by Murphy Fair to land in the state championship but was upset in the second round by a Huntland team that Moore County had dusted by more than 20 points earlier in the regular season.

Coach Doug Price took over in 99 and led the Raiders to the state title appearance.

McCurry did lead the Raiders to a title game back in 88 I believe. They lost a nail biter.

    Good luck Mac!

Yes you are correct. The Chattanooga newspaper, the above article was taken from had some facts wrong. Mac lead the Raiders to the 1988 title game with DCA and lost 21 to 20 when a 2 point conversion try was inches short. Moore County had played DCA earlier that season in Lynchburg and beat the Wildcats 34 to 20. But it is very hard to beat a team twice in one season. Mac wanted so much to win a State championship but it did not happen. Good Luck Mac and maybe you will get one soon.

    VERY INTERESTING!!!

    Eagles hire McCurry

Mac McCurry has been hired as defensive coordinator for Signal Mountain’s reigning Class 2A state-championship football team. Principal Tom McCullough said McCurry will be teaching physical education and wellness.

McCurry replaces Greg Ellis, who will be going back to Gordon Lee, according to McCullough.

“Greg did a great job, but he had an opportunity to go back home,†head coach Bill Price said. “To replace him I wanted another guy that could take the defense by himself, and Mac can do that. He has been very successful and we’re very glad to get him.â€

McCurry will come to the Eagles from Pearl River, Miss., where he has been an assistant coach. He has been a head coach at Ripley, Miss., and at Marshall County and Moore County in Tennessee. He directed Moore County to the 1999 Class 1A state final, where it lost to South Pittsburg

    Signal Mountain

    (14-0, won 2A state championship)

Among the program’s newcomers is former Moore County coach Mac McCurry, the Eagles’ new defensive coordinator. “He’s very, very intense, which I like,†head coach Bill Price said. “He’ll be here for spring practice, so we’re excited about what he can bring to the program.â€

Ernie McCarson also takes over coaching the defensive line, as the team switches to more of a three-man front, while offensively the biggest adjustment will be Reese Phillips taking over at quarterback.

“He’s got a lot of talent and he’ll be fine, but we’ve just got to get him a lot of snaps,†Price said. “We’ve got maybe four running backs we know we can count on, but we’re looking to find a few more for depth. That’s our big thing this spring, finding depth at a few positions. “We played a lot of bigger schools and tough teams last year, so that should help us make the adjustment to moving up to 4A in the fall. Our kids have been through a tough workout program, so they’re just ready to get back out on the field.â€

  5. Lots of unanswered questions here. Who will the next Lincoln County coach be? Will coach Thomas be the head coach at the new Fayetteville High School? Where will the new School be located? What classification will Lincoln County become 5A? What classification will the Fayatteville City High be 2A or 3A? Will they be known as the tigers like the old Fayetteville central? How will the good people of Fayetteville and Lincoln County pay for the new school? I lived in Fayetteville back in the 70'S when the new Lincoln County High came into being. I remember paying the wheel tax and how the voters were told if they voted for the wheel tax there property taxes would not be raised to pay for the new school. And how the wheel tax would go away after the School bond was retired. You good Lincoln County folks know what happened. If you ask me this all is looney tunes and should be in a cartoon. :roflol:

  6. From Pulaski Citizen

Breaking News: GCHS head football coach David O'Connor is reconsidering his move to Lincoln County after the Fayetteville City School Board voted last night to add a high school to its system. See tonight's edition of the Pulaski Citizen for more details. Says 95% sure staying at GCHS...

Wow! I read the article on there website. This does not sound good for the future of the Falcons, in more ways the one.

Looks like on paper South Pittsburg is at least a 35 point favorite. And the Pirates will probably win by at least that much. But the Raiders will have nothing to be ashamed of. After all, it has been almost 10 years since the Raiders have made the 2nd round playoffs, and no one would have ever thought at the start of this year they would even make the playoffs much less the 2nd round.

Good job Moore County coaching staff and good job Raider players.

  8. Tough loss for MC. Dca just out played them in every way possible. MC's only touchdown came on a Kickoff Return right before half. Dca pounded them on the ground all night. Overall it was a decent game and a great football atmosphere. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.

Moore County was simply outclassed by the Nashville private school. The raiders played hard and never gave up and have nothing to be ashamed of. Good luck to the raiders the rest of the year.

DCA comes to Lynchburg with a record of 3-2 this year.

What I known about the wildcats is in the history book.

    Year 2009 DCA-31 MC-14

    Year 2003 playoff game DCA-38 MC-10

Year 1988 MC won in lynchburg (don't remember score) and lost to DCA in the state championship game 21-20 when 2 point conversion try was inches short.

I cannot remember any other games between the 2 schools.

TIME FOR REVENGE FRIDAY NIGHT. GO RAIDERS!!! americanfootballrunning.gif

Tough game for the Raiders. The Eagles showed how good they really are with the win over Forrest and they beat the Raiders 27-0 last year. The Raiders did have the upset win over a good MTCS team this year and have been showing improvement in every game. This should be a good one.

    GO RAIDERS!!!
