  1. I have hope one day Portland will be rolled back, but, I think that is all it is. Hope................I mean we have over 800 kids in the high school and I read where Mt. Juliet has over 800 in the Freshman class alone, I mean, come on. What about that is fair? I will say our smaller sports like volleyball, golf, and girls basketball has been able to compete, but the larger sports such as Football, baseball and basketball, have been hurt by it.
  2. Couldnt be happier for Adam and his family, his Aunt is a good friend of mine from our Cumberland days. He has great family support in any decision he had to make.
  3. It could be their own choosing, my understanding, if they have hopes of going in the draft, they cant be signed by a college. If I understand it right.

  5. Saw a post earlier and thought I would expound on it. What is everyone's thoughts on Private schools vs Public schools as far as sports/education go. How would your sons athletic teams be different IF certain athletes had not gone the "private" route. It is a subject that has been on my mind for a while. The way the public education system is going is not exactly how I want my son to be taught, but, I can deal with it for now. That and the fact he has worked his whole life to excel in high school sports, for his home town, is another reason we wont go the private route, but, at times I see the advantages. For example, on my sons summer 14U travel team there are 14 players. They are all leaving or have left middle school for high school and it breaks down like this: 1 is currently at Davidson Academy, 2 are leaving their home town (Portland) to go to Davidson, 1 is leaving Joe Byrns for JPII, 2 are leaving Beech for JPII, 2 are staying at Station Camp, 2 are at White House, 2 are at Beech, 1 is at Christian school in White House/Home schooled, and 1, my son is at Portland. Is there that big of a difference for the kids going the private route? I see the programs/facilities that Davidson, JPII, Goodpasture, and Friendship have, and see how I would want that for my son. What has happened to the public schools where the private route seems so much better vs playing for your home town? It sure seems the grass is greener on the other side, but, what are the draw backs, if any? Thanks in advance for everyone's response. I would like to hear both pro and con.
  6. Then they havent seen nothing yet, my son has a pop time of .9 seconds, his 60yd speed is 3.9, and as a 14 yr old, batted .533 this year........2 out of 3 are lies...lol I will admit it lol.
  7. Thanks, headed there...
  8. well has the thread died? I hear crickets......
  9. LOL most accurate post in the last 2 pages, lol...least I know he had a gun and didnt count "Mississippis" lol
  10. anyone know what the tie breaker was? or the system, because I have no idea, besides head to head, runs scored, etc?
  11. Correct. Cumberland will even help ya fill out the paper work, lol. Great school, my daughter loves it, as I did.
  12. ya really need to watch what people say about a "full" ride. The four years I was there, I knew of no one either. My daughter attends there now. She has heard of some of the football players talk about their "full" ride, but, when she asked, (cause I told her I knew of no one that had a "full" ride there, and I played with some great, great players) yes, between CU, lottery, academic, work study, etc. It may add up to a full ride. But these all have limitations which need to be met, to keep. My daughter has a academic scholarship to CU, now between the lottery, her academics, and work study, its about a 3/4ths "full" ride, lol. But you see how things can get twisted, or bragged on. I mean come on, CU is small, if Woody can get two quality players for the price of one, that's a no brainer, go with two, lol.
  13. I dont think they have fallen at all, it was a great game. Gallatin played defense perfectly from what I remember, we (Portland) made our mistakes, but hit for hit it was a good game. Gallatin struggled with the off speed stuff, I was over by the Portland dugout taking photos at the wall, of the game, my friends kids on Gallatin, etc. Pic after Pic is showing Gallatin batters chasing bad pitches. I will say tonight is the best Rettich has pitched all year, his breaking ball was finally working where it hasnt all year...yall bunted and played small ball, like you should have. The game breaker was Gallatin not scoring with the bases loaded but the one lone run. That kills everything. I was more disappointed in the actions of some parents after the game than anything else. But that is what makes high school sports so good, most fans, and players are doing it with so much heart. Good luck tomorrow night, funny thing I wasnt the only Gallatin graduate that was on Portlands side since we moved up here, lol still feels weird pulling against my home town.
  14. Now to the game: Portland scored 2 in the bottom of the first Gallatin left one runner on in the first, 2nd Gallatin left a runner on Portland left a runner as well on, end of 2, top 3 Gallatin had bases loaded caused by 2 errors by Portland, sac fly, one run scores, 2 fly balls in infield inning over, btm of 3 Portland did nothing, top 4 Gallatin singled to center, runner stranded, btm of 4 Portland did nothing, top 5,Gallatin single to right, sac bunt man on sec one out, drive to right one run in runner thrown out at 3 stretching double into triple, btm of 5 score 2-2, 2 outs runner stole 2nd, 2 strikes on batter, Gallatin says ump lost the count and it should be strike 3, and end of inning, ump says the count is 1-2, next pitch drive to the outfield scores runner from 2nd, Portland up 3-2, crowd is PO'ed and so is coach. Next Portland batter pops up to pitcher, he and catcher collide, pitcher hangs on to the ball. End of 5 Top of 6th, Gallatin batter walks, fly out to first, out, last batter force out at second, bottom of 6. Portland single to right, attempted sac bunt too hard good play by Gallatin pitcher runner out at second, 1 out. Runner picked off of first, good play. 3rd out batter lined out to short. Top of 7-first batter strikes out, second batter fly to center, dropped ball, error runner on first one out, stole second, fly ball to second baseman 2 out, pitcher batting int walk, runner on second steals 3rd, batter chased some bad pitches, all off speed, strike out ends the game, Gallatin coach has to be separated from home plate umpire by first base coach. Yelling starts from fans......about as accurate as I can get it, lol. Good luck to everyone tomorrow night. FOR BOTH TEAMS
  15. wow, but good enough to beat Gallatin tonight 3-2. Just to be clear, Gallatin is my alma mater, I have dear friends whose kids play for Gallatin. Before anyone blames it on the ump, that one call or no call is not what cost Gallatin the game. They left way too many runners stranded, had the bases loaded and no outs on only get one run. The inability to hit the off speed pitch, and lack of timely hitting. I also must say growing up in Gallatin and playing baseball for Gallatin, I was disappointed in the the taunts and name calling the parents were doing toward the Portland players. Not the Gallatin I grew up in.
  16. Depends on the bat. Some BBCOR sound exactly like the old besr bats. My son has a Easton S1, XL3 and a Marucci Cat 5 bbcor. You can not tell on these bats by the sound.
  17. Finally an article on the perfect game: Good job Mr. Dunn. Perfect Game
  18. also as far as the rivalry between Gallatin and Hendersonville, its always been there. I played at Gallatin back in the mid 80's, my cousin pitched for Hendersonville at the same time. He knew I struggled against curve balls, guess what I saw at every at bat, including when he pitched against me, lol...not one fastball, lol. Just the way it is, but, it makes for a good history. Nothing like going up against the team you want to beat the most. That is what makes high school sports so special, I just hope these young men are having as much fun as we did back then.
  19. Yea the spell checker I used changed it for me....just like my iphone does, lol
  20. Very well said....now can someone explain why no paper has done an article on the perfect game that Dunn threw? Heck I even asked one of the sports writers in our town to do one, lol. Fair is fair, that is one heck of an accomplishment, for the whole team.
  21. Being a baseball fan, I wouldnt care if he threw it against a 12 yr old Dixie team. A perfect game is a rare feet. Everyone knows any team, are no better than their pitching on any given night......here is a link to the story, says he walked 2, thats a shame, but congrats on the no no :No Hitter!
  22. That is awesome! If Beaty and Dunn go against one another, I want to see that game......dont know how the post season matchups work, does anyone know if that is even possible?
  23. LOL answers like this just make me laugh. Yea he threw it against Portland last night and I cant count the number of parents from our side that yelled "good job pitch", last night after the game was over, they were rooting for their kids to break it up, and then they applauded when he got it. Heck they were even keeping up with how many k's the kid had, and he struck out my buddies son twice. He applauded. Your answer sounds like someone that watches a heart transplant and says afterward, "well they just took one out and put another one in"...and by the way, I like Jr too, lol .....here is an analogy for ya, Dale jr wins the Daytona 500, and someone says to you (us, Dale jr fans) "what's so great, he just went in circles".....lol now that's funny...Good luck to every one this week!!!
