I've never watched Lebanon play but i find it hard to believe anyone could win a championship with those type averages. The ERA's are high too, are these the top 2 pitchers?
Round one was no shocker and TCA didn't look as good as I thought they would. They threw it around alot, and made several base running blunders. Round 2 today, Gant going for the Panthers!
On FIRE! Stephen Gant 3-1 record with one save, includes 2 shutouts and a perfect game! He's given up 3 runs so far, also hitting around 500 with 9 HR's. I'd say that's hot!!! entire pitching staff combined for 3 perfect games and another shutout last week, they now have 9 shutouts in 17 games...HOT!
That was actually the 3rd perfect game of the week for Riverside and the 9th shutout in 17 games! Gant also hit a grand slam in that game at MTSU. He now has a 3-1 record with 2 shutouts and has given up only 3 runs. The homer gave him 7 or 8 for the year.
Not under the radar, but most don't realize that Stephen Gant won't graduate until 2012. Ryan Fisher will also play college ball after 2012. Brandon McFall at Riverside is also a 2012 graduate at Riverside who's getting some attention. Alex Whitwell is a Freshman who is our starting catcher so i'd keep an eye on him for 2014.
I'll also add since this isn't just a pitching thread, the home runs aren't down for Riverside. Gant, Clint Fisher, Brandon McFall, Alex Whitwell, Ryan Bivens, and Brice White all have homers. Gant and McFall have 5 or 6 each in the first 12 games.
Gant has pitched in 3 games this year:
Waverly W 4-0
Adamsville W 11-1
Milan L 2-1
These were all starts and the only games he's pitched in so far. Bivens started against USJ and Keen came in.
Nolen Smith is really comming on for Riverside too! He pitched a 10-0 5 inning complete game over Hardin Co. and a 7 inning complete game shutout over South Side 2-0. He gave up 3 hits in one game and 4 in the other, no walks! He's Riverside's #3 starter so I think the Panther staff is in pretty good shape.
Still got some of the better hitters struggling right now, stay tuned and you'll see. Bivens isn't hitting YET, 8 and 9 spots are struggling, but will be OK. I know they scored a lot, but it will get better!
