By the time Macon moves west the Borders boys will be gone and Macon will be a 3-7 program again. Realignment won’t happen until 2025-26

Macon County would be battling White House, Creek Wood, and Greenbrier if they played in the Region 5-4A in 2023.  They'd beat Whites Creek and Montgomery Central.

1997 Pearl Cohn team is the best metro team of all time! After them you can rank as you please!!! Remember both Pearl Cohn 1996 and this 1997 teams won it with private schools also. It’s no way you can put neither Hillsboro teams In front them!

Pearl-Cohn  1996 won it with the private schools.  Father Ryan was in the region with them.

In 1997 Division II was created and that's when the private schools left the larger classes (at the time 4A and 5A).  David Lipscomb and Goodpasture were still 2A and all of the "Alphabet Schools" were all 1A still at that time.

The region in 1997-1998 was as follows:

    1.)  Pearl-Cohn

    2.)  Springfield

    3.)  Whites Creek

    4.)  Cheatham County

    5.)  Maplewood

    6.)  Beech

    7.)  Stratford

    8.)  Clarksville

    9.)  Kenwood (1st Year)

Personally those were my days of growing up as a 7th and 8th grader running around with my buddies at the games in awe of the "giants" who we got to see play on Friday nights while dreaming of playing under the lights on Friday nights in the years to come.

Nope first title SINCE 1998. PC won in 97 and 98

    1996 and 1997 are correct.

In 1996 they won in the final week of the regular season to reach the playoffs.  The other playoff teams in the region that year were Beech, Father Ryan, and Maplewood.

In 1997 they lost the opener to MBA by one point.  After that they ran the table and pitched 8 straight shutouts from Weeks 7-14.  The other playoff teams in the region that year were Springfield, Whites Creek, and Cheatham County.

In 1998 they had a great chance to three peat but were defeated at home in the Quarterfinals by Whites Creek.

  4. The TSSAA is now looking at the strength vs success system that’s used in Indiana.

What I like about it is that it creates new rivalries and doesn’t base everything off of geography or school enrollment.

What I dislike about it is that it seems like the plan punishes programs for working harder to be successful.

If you put a school that’s Alcoa’s size in a 6A world full of schools with double and triple their population that’s not a level playing field.

Everyone complains about Alcoa not being in a higher classification despite the fact that they beat Knoxville West when they played and they killed both Pearl-Cohn and Upperman when they played them.  There’s 5A and 4A right there.

The only thing left is 6A and if you’re going to force Alcoa to play 6A football then you should at least come up with a means to where they can add a pool like a 1,500-2,000-2,500 population sized school.

  5. Giles County and East Nashville have been tough luck losers to Alcoa for several years now.  Both of them, along with formerly Pearl-Cohn, used to be Teams 1-2-3 in the old Region 5-3A.  They would all have a great chance at winning gold if they weren’t stuck in the same class as Alcoa.

Pearl-Cohn is now in 4A and had a great shot at winning 4A last season before falling just short against a great Anderson County team.  Let’s see how they do tomorrow against Upperman.  That game should carry a lot of intrigue from Giles County and East Nashville because they would love to be in that same position away from the F5.

My man has coached at the college level as well as the high school level.  He’s been a coordinator on both sides of the football and has served as a head coach in the past.  He’s been in and out of the state.  He’s been in the western, middle, and eastern part of this great state.

please keep it super secret, this is after all, A SPECULATIVE MESSAGE BOARD

I would never disclose the name on here for all to see.  The only thing I would say is that he’s a very good football coach who’s been successful at a few places and is experienced.

Breaking news: teams get scored on when they put their sympathy squads on the field

    Booger just sayin :popcorneater:

Oakland should have won by 3-4 more scores.  This game was never really in doubt.  Bradley Central's store bought team couldn't even get it done against the Patriots.

I'll bet Riverdale would have beaten them if they had played also.

Rutherford County is that strong this year.

Also didn’t think an elite program would be so trashy. This is insane lol. Grown adults

Spoken like a sore loser.  Oakland came out east once again and laid the smack down on the best store bought 6A team your area of the state has to offer.  It's a good thing this game wasn't Maryville hosting Oakland or else the clock would have been running 90 minutes ago.

That’s a ridiculous post of the year nominee. Lol. Alco can’t even win the county!

Keep telling yourself that.  Alcoa WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!  Who cares about the county?!?!?

Winning the county gets you a t-shirt.

Winning the state championship AGAIN gets you some hardware and it means that you didn't have to buy tickets to get on the field to see the games.

It also means that you didn't have to create t-shirts to feel better about your life.

Why would George Quarles want to coach at a place with the program trending downward like Maryville ?

There is the question right there folks.  There is only one job in Blount County that George Quarles would ever be a serious applicant to apply for in 2023 and it isn't Maryville.  If Coach Nix were to leave Alcoa then I could definitely see Coach Quarles as the Tornadoes next football coach.  That would only be if it happened in the not too distant future.

Maryville isn't considered the statewide "super power" that they were once upon a time....

Maryville in the late 90s and 00s was a force when they were in 4A beating up on Morristown West & Co.  I was lucky enough to see them play Whites Creek (1998), Maplewood (2007), Hillsboro (2001, 2002, 2006, 2008), Melrose (2004 and 2005) when they were seemingly invincible during that time.

Maryville was the "5 Class System 4A" powerhouse from 1998-2008 that Alcoa eventually became in the "5 Class System 2A" from 2004-2008 and has continued to be in the "6 Class System 3A" since 2009 (minus hiccups in 2011 and 2012 to CAK).

It makes some of the Maryville posters upset when I post this on here but since 2009 when they elected to play up to the "6 Class System 6A" they've had some great teams, won several championships (6), but in the end they haven't had nearly that same aura.

No current football player at Maryville high school has ever played in a state championship game (2020-2023).  That doesn't make them "failures" by any stretch of the imagination.  They had very productive high school playing careers and will go on to do great things in their lives to come.

Coach Quarles saw this writing on the wall when he saw the emergence of Oakland when Coach Creasy came to Murfreesboro.  Signs of it had shown in meetings with Alcoa and Ravenwood but when it started happening versus Oakland it was just plain different because it was the barrier that prevented Maryville from reaching the pinnacle and playing in the state championship games as they had done so many times earlier.
