I expect 5-5 or 6-4 next year.  They'll beat the bad teams.  Lose to the good ones.

This year they were a shadow of the year prior.  They had a few good pieces and got the most out of them.  Barring some stud transfers, they'll be down talent wise next year compared to this year. Losing Bradshaw and Nelson on the line,  Moog, Hall. Most of the offense production is gone.  I know you don't want to hear it but AC will be down.  It's a cycle where they get a class or two of good kids that come through together every 5 or 6 years.  Everything has to align just right like it did in 2022. 2023 could have been almost as good but a couple of AC kids decided to play for Oak Ridge last year.  They would be Juniors this year.  For perspective,  the QB at OR set the all time passing record as a soph, in oak ridges system.  In AC system it would have been more.  Thems the breaks though.

Before you think I'm all negative, I'm just being real.  I'm here to see it in person,  I know the kids,  many personally.  They're good kids,  great kids even.  With good coaching,  great coaching even.  But they don't have the horses.  It is what it is.

It's really doesn't matter what critics say. There's always those that do this every year. Listen I have been on here almost 10 years. I have yet to see anything positive preseason. Preseason 2022 Championship we got the same wrap and critics. I do not expect for it change. I am pretty sure based on the AC program alone they will be top notch, again in 4A. This program and staff are solid enough to have a chance at the state championship every year. Yes every year. And we all know that, baring injuries. Like Davey told me once. They take what they have to work with for the season game plan, like most programs, and then perfect it. The feeder program is tremendous and they won there championship this year. I can almost guarantee AC will be right there with all the big dogs. Past issues were the Defence that was the key to getting to a state and we did. We still have the new defense coach Lambert. So I will not call your statements negative or too harsh, but I will call them constructive criticism. And remember this program and staff have not went away, we still have IMO the best staff in the state

You can now set back and watch what I am saying for the 2024 season. I am Confident!

  2. It's never to early to get reports from OL Hickory. The season begins now because any success in the playoff would have to be credited to what's accomplished now, going forward. Hope to get news from winter workout, speed training testing and the upcoming stars for the Mavericks 2024 season. Twitter X etc. I called the Dream team a year before the 2022 state championship. Not ready to call this a dream team 2 but I am ready for a spectacular performance and December 7, 2024 appearance. My theme "It's Expected"

    Go Mavericks!

I said before this season, 6-4.

I see,  in person,  what they have.  They will not have as many athletes next year.

AC is always 1 or 2 key injuries away from going 5-5. I'll say continue to enjoy last year,  it'll be a while before it comes around again.

They had to recruit a qb last year because the presumed starter is playing for oak ridge now.

QB Cody Miller was needed on defense when Transfer came in; they decided to go with Hall since he had experience but Cody Miller was very good and could play anywhere on the field. AC only graduated 10 or 11 with 6-8 full time starters. I look for another good run this year better than last year. Of course IMO. The Mavs know how to compete and if it were not for the complex play calling and getting the QB on the same page with just 1 months of prep time AC would had add more wins. Point is last year they had one of the states hardest schedules still competed with last minute transfer and still went to Quarter finals. Trust me winnings is part of AC DNA; no turning back now. The West Game prime example they can compete and win; just can't beat ourselves as we did in this game. West went on to win the State Title this year

Unless AC gets a lot of transfers,  they'll struggle even more next year.

They're not going to compete for a title for a while.

I will agree to disagree, based on the program AC has set up and just as important the defense they maintain. AC will do very well. It's all about programs,. They have won a state, tasted the blood, and are hungry. Many of course use this saying every year, and I mean every year (10 years) I have been on here. And 99% want to say this. AC continues to prove those wrong. I believe this years team, as they develop have great potential. I am not guessing anymore. With the program set up they will compete every year. And future wise a new QB 2029 grad. Should guarantee some state appearances! It's expected.

  5. I feel the same way at this point, at best, even if you think your team can make the state; it's way too early to say that. I will say compete because they have potential. With so many variables, I can see why Swipes says compete. I am also seeing the Mavs competing very well but the have to replace the entire backfield. Pretty confident in staff getting this ready and pretty confident Davey will have a quarterback ready and what I believe is we bring in a dual option QB. Again with that type of QB we will need to have a good backup.

  6. The Mavs should be in good shape if the roster is correct. Losing 12 and I am showing 6-8 starters. At least 4 big time contributions QB and RB included. It still looks like the Mavs have a few big holes to fill however based on this roster they have a lot to work with this year. If they get the big RB and QB solid this could be a really exciting year for Mav fans 2024. After last year's rebuild I am confident based on this criteria the Mavs have a shot but as usual, they have a lot of work to do

  7. Watched the rerun Upperman played well against an highly talented PC. I want believe the rain may have slowed PC down but rain or shine a great team will shine. Upperman was just as good in the long run. Both teams deserved the win but Congratulations to PC. It's all just a game of chess when two great teams meet; it's whomever makes the right move at the right time(s).

I can’t believe anyone has not mentioned this yet! The weather forecast for Saturday morning is currently calling for an 80% chance of rain with temps in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. For a team like Upperman who can rely mainly on the run game, does that help them by limiting the PC offensive capabilities? What affects could this have on each team? Let’s hear it guys. What say you?!

Considering those weather factors that could very well change things; IMO, benefiting Upperman.

You are correct!  @Mavericksinflight must be smoking the good stuff in Washington tonight .  Even though Martin never made it past Greeneville, he was a true competitor and a player i liked to watch with his Grit in that 2017 playoff game.

Stanton was tough! IMO he almost made it. He was probably one the more Exciting players I have seen the Mavs have, up to this point. I say that with reservation hoping my great nephew 2029 graduation class will add something to it. :?:

Mr Football is loosing its luster. I’m still trying to figure out how Bryson Rollins at Elizabethton didn’t get one? Dude had the stats every year and only lost two games as a 3 year starter! Two titles and a very hard fought runner up. Kinda hard to argue the 2020 award when your teammate (Parker Hughes) wins it. But he didn’t even make the final cut the other two years? I’m not sure the 2019 winner was the best WR/DB either. Hughes had better individual stats that season too. And I really don’t think it should matter if it’s a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior. If you got the goods, you should get the prize. Sorry to highjack this thread.

And then of course the obvious, the Mavs Stanton Martin finished as #1 in state passing and #10 Nationally in passing. Ended up 15-0 and a state championship last year. I think if we're honest that was a head scratcher, to say the least.

  12. Upperman with run and time consuming drives a great run defence.

PC with better than average defence, good run game..... but a very quick strike capability.

PC  just beat a good explosive Haywood team fairly easy and not only is PC a Veteran to State Appearances but have a hungry and returning veteran group from last year.

Upperman is a very good football team with a great defense but it's hard for me to see Upperman winning this one, but it's not impossible. When comes to a state championship and two undefeated teams, you can pretty much well flip a coin.

  13. Just my opinion Upperman showed great defence, time management and execution against Greeneville. The one area that Upperman may get beat is the deep ball and PC appears to be very good in this area. It could still turn out to be a good game. PC had trouble with the Mavs dual backs last year because of the balance passing game. Upperman had trouble with Greeneville deep ball. This is where the difference could be. Upperman did not show much against Greeneville in the passing department, either. I think 3 passes total offence. The PC QB is pretty good.

I think PC overall has a 28-14 advantage. But who knows that's why we play the game. Should be a fun game and if Upperman makes adjustments this week, anything could happen.

@greengreen22. For some reason Spradlin can not get over the hump and win the big games. Crazy that a team with a defense that Greeneville had that they couldn’t stop upperman.  Either they didn’t watch some of the games that I found on the internet this past week or something I don’t know!   Make the adjustments on defense!!!! 5 on the line period!! Make them pass the ball.  Offensive coordinator has to go. And if Coach isn’t calling off some of the plays being called maybe it’s time for him to go.

Why the Mavs don't get back to read option and pass too. Greeneville had trouble if you mix it up on the run. They played and concentrated on Moog and that is all they had to do and the done good at it. But when you mix it up Greeneville has trouble. Uppermans did not even pass or that game could have been over quick. I have to hand it to Upperman defense. I think however if Greeneville would have passed more they would have had a better chance. But one thing is pretty true when you get to this level you need a good pass game as speed and talent will get you. The 3 headed Monsters better wake up!

Mav man, you still sore because AC didn’t get to play tonight? :D:D:D  Have a great evening, we’ll probably see you guys again next season.  Upperman’s legit.

Am sad we didn't get to true. Didn't expect Upperman to dominate our far east teams but it happens. Greeneville had a Great year.

Can't wait for another season for Greeneville and AC too. Greeneville may have got a little too excited over last week; not taking anything from a good Upperman team. But that did not look like Greeneville.

Well good insight for next year Greeneville and AC. We definitely need an option QB like past years ago Stanton Martin.

    Util we meet again!
