1. Giles County Lady Cats To Host Summer Basketball Camp

    Posted on May 24, 2010

The Giles County High School girl’s basketball program will be hosting a skills camp this summer for area youth.

Headed by the Lady Cat’s coaches and players, the camp will run June 29-July 2 at Giles County High School and will be eligible for boys and girls in grades 4-8. The cost will be $40 per child and the camp will run 8AM until noon each morning.

Essential fundamentals to basketball will be taught in a fun and encouraging environment. Dribbling, defensive drills, shooting, blocking out, as well as offensive moves are just a few of the skills that will be taught to help the youngsters reach their potential. (WKSR)

Pretty Blatant disregard for all rules!!!!

  2. He left and went back to Jackson...

Was told today that Coach Moore at Central finally got her wish... was transfer to another school and now the Girls Head coaching position is open at Central....

Mt. Pleasant may not get a coach because of not been able to find a coach that is certified in the subjects that are available at the school...

Santa Fe is starting interviews next week... there are a lot of good applicants bec of the PE certification that was posted...

CA hired inhouse and got Coach Bingham who has not coached basketball in 15 years....

Hampshire is in the same boat as Mt. Pleasant... not able to find anyone that meets their certification issues...

Good work JIM.... I meant Fastpitch4

  3. Just saw an article in the shelbyville paper and they had a picture of MK Potts playing for Cascade. I know she was a great middle school player at Liberty for Coach Spencer. I also know she was on the Eaglette team as a freshman but had heard that she played in a home school league or something like that last year. What is her staus? She will make an immediate impact in the district if she is eligible.

  4. Rachel Glidden from Richland. 1500+ points, 500+ rebounds, 500+assist. She has done this while playing on teams that also have another 1200+ point score and another who is nearing the 1000 pt mark in her career. Her teams have won 98 games to date in her 4 yrs, 3 district championships and one sub-state appearance in what most would consider one of if not the toughest regions in the state...6A. She has also signed to play for the Lady Eagles at TN Tech University.

  5. What are you saying Jimbo, that 7A is overated? HA HA HA.

Great teams up there with great fans. Wish Richland had fans like you guys up there. Not that we do not have a few good fans, but not the number you guys have up there.

That said, fans do not play the games. Players do and Richland has the players.

    All 'Boro team:

    Post: Duke

    Post: Horn

    Guard: Bell

    Guard: Glidden

Guard: pick someone, maybe 2008 Ms. Basketball A. Andrews.

    'Boro MVP Jasmine "The Diesel" Duke while averaging 20 points and 20 boards a game. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Roper have you even been to a game this year? Maybe you and those other fans could show up like 7A sometime

  6. All of these are great posts no doubt. I feel that accountability is the biggest issue. Coaches can get a T, or get tossed with fines and suspensions to follow without just cause in some cases. I agree coaches cross the line all the time but so do officials, and with what recourse do the school or coaches have. Most of the time complaints fall on deaf ears and in other cases will get you the "problem" back at your gym on back to back nights for what is termed being a "Cry Baby." This never happens with good officials but more than not you will get a not so good official with an axe to grind.

  7. If you want to stick to the facts, state the facts. The big 2 PARENTS control the program. That is why Tipps left. The Freshman are good but with the influence the big 2 Parents will have over the team, they will accomplish nothing. They tried the same influence last year and their KIN FOLK did not like the fact that the real talent was not kin to them. The new coach is letting the fluence occur now because she is new. In a year or two she will kick back against them, they will take offense, and start corrupting things from inside just like they did for Tipps. Facts are Facts. And those are the Facts.

Hewitt shut up... Your days are over

  8. It was a great game. Richland led the entire game as Anna Bell caught fire early from 3-point range for Richland and Gaby Bussell, who scored Forrest's first six points I believe, got into foul trouble in the first half. Forrest made an adjustment on Bell in the second half, but Glidden stepped up and hit some big shots down the stretch. Forrest was by far the deeper of the two teams, but Richland's big four were too much to overcome. The score could have been worse, but Duke missed a lot of little chip shots around the rim. Forrest struggled from 3-point range, especially Young, who was something like 1 for 8 (possibly more; it was hard to keep count in my head) from long range. Beth Hawn was especially impressive tonight. Her height and length allowed her to really do what she wanted around the basket. She ran the floor extremely well and had Forrest's guards had their heads up, she could have easily had two or three fast break layups there in the second half.

One last thing: Richland's coach really needs to be a little more calm on the sidelines. I think he gets so wound up during the games that it affects his team's play. The more riled up he gets, the more spastic and wound up his girls seem to get. It didn't hurt his team too much tonight, but in tournament play (and I thought this same thing last year when they lost to Summertown in the Region 6A Tournament), he is going to have to be more calm and settled if he expects his players to play that way in big game situations.

How many games have you coached? The truth is the more wound up he gets the harder they play. I really think you have to credit Forrest with what you described as spastic.

  9. Great analysis, as usual. Santa Fe should finish 2nd and will play Richland within 10 points each game. Moore County will be third with the possibility of Huntland jumping Cornersville for 4th. The best chance for anyone in the district to beat Richland will be a "one and done" game such as in a tournament. Don't count Cornersville out of any "one and done" game. They have a crafty coach.

I saw the small printed schedule today for Richland this year. I hope they have other games scheduled against tougher teams. They play Collinwood, and Dear Abby (ha ha), in February but no Wayne County or Summertown. What is up?

There is allot of great players in the state but I do not think anyone has 5 as strong top to bottom as Richland. The bench will be the question mark. Will Glidden be able the withstand the beatings she seems to take each year? Will Duke reach her potential? Will all 5 starters stay on the team? Rumors fly weekly about players leaving. The most experienced bench players will be Brewer and Darnell. Neither played as much as they should have the last 2 years so that lack of experience could hurt. However, both have allot to offer. Little #10 had some great showings last year but is still very inexperienced.

Scouting report. You know what to expect from Bell and Glidden; Double Double every night. Horn should be even better than last year and Pierce has unlimited potential. The key to how far this team goes will be Jasmine "The Diesel" Duke. Glidden and Bell will have 20 points a night. If Duke plays as well as I know she can, this team will be hard to stop.

My advise to Richland: Do not worry about winning 30 games this year. Go 9 to 10 deep giving the starters some breathers and the bench some playing time. If not, they will be worn out come tourney time like they were last year.

In conclusion: Glidden, Bell and Duke should all receive Ms. Basketball looks. Any one of these 3 could win it, although Ms. Andrews of Collinwood may be the front runner. The biggest problem Richland will face this year is playing in BY FAR the toughest Region in the state. It will be hard to get out of region again this year.

    Richland Rules.

Roper has been away so long he does'nt even know who plays for Richland. Brewer has not been out since the last game of last season. Her Decision. Darnell may be out for weeks with a stress fracture. Most of the girls that play soccer have refused to condition and lift weights or come to open gym. So who knows what may happen.

No doubt Glidden, Bell, Duke and Horn are the top 4 players in D11 but you are supposed to play with 5 last I checked. Coach Hall has many tough decisions in the weeks ahead. Not to mention you get 14 calendar days to prepare for the first game of the season.

  10. QUOTE(BLUESTREAK @ Feb 25 2007 - 06:44 PM) 826389057Look! the coach waited until he was down by 10 before subbing and that player created a change in the momentum of the game and richland was only down by 1 at halftime and after halftime he went back w/ his starters and went down by 11 points or so before subbing again and once again that player changed the rythm of the game-the summertown coach was probably laughing his head off when hall went back to his starting 5 after halftime.-if hall is the "coach of the year" why did he only have 4 players who could do right. why didn't he have a deeper bench???...evidently you are a grammar major and have no athletic ability

if you were at the game as you say then you would know that it was 12-2 before the first whistle even sounded. And the young lady that the coach subed for is the 3rd leading scorer for her team this year.

  11. QUOTE(BLUESTREAK @ Feb 24 2007 - 02:00 PM) 826387292If Summertown was no 4th place team then the raiders weren't the district champs!...if they weren't the #4 seed how did rhs match up against them as the #1?...just because you are in 4th place doesn't mean you are going to stay on the bottom and just becuase you are top ranked doesn't mean you are going to stay on top-richland was ranked the #1 team in the state and they could've proven it in the state tourney all they needed was a coach to get them there

great post bluestreak..... or you know what else...... ropers daughter probably would have made the difference...... oh yeah she missed 6 of the last 10 practices and breaks aall of the rules... but that doesn't matter.... you are right though playing 3 on 5 isn't fair, but glidden, bell, and duke tried to anyway and fell 2 pts short.

  12. QUOTE(jamieroper @ Feb 24 2007 - 03:50 PM) 826387392I mentioned Lynnville because that is where the school is officially located according the the state. Yes, other communities contribute to Richland's success.

You will have to discuss the schedule with the coach.

As far as the seniors, one played allot. The other did not. That was my daughter. I do not feel that she was treated fairly and I am praying about how I should address that situation. But what do you expect, the same thing happened last year with 2 very good players, Kelly Brown and Tika Jones riding the bench too. That is not to take away from the efforts of the Richland girls that did play. They played their hearts out all year and stuck by my daughter during her 3 years at Richland. They are a classy group of girls and I will supporting them next year just like I did this year. Good job Lady Raiders. I am proud of you. 30 AND 3 is great and only one team in Class A will end there season with a win. You CAN BE VERY VERY PROUD.

i would like to say that these are all direct quotes from jamieroper herself. these are not falsified i just spent about an hour reading all of her 1178 post. all i can add is i wish these were "the famous last words of a fool" How could she even think about trying to blast a coach

We came to Richland from Lauderdale County 3 years ago and every year I have heard similar stuff from some parents about how other parents are supposedly trying to get coach Hall fired. And then when I see these same parents speaking with Coach Hall, all seems fine. Also, I have never heard any of these parents who supposedly want him fired say a single negative thing about him. So if there is a problem, which I do not believe there is, it is being kept in private.

It is his team to coach and his lineup to make out. He is not going anywhere.

I can find something wrong with the coaching style of every coach I have ever been around. However, I understand that that does not make me right and them wrong.

I know that my daughter would most likely not play for anyone else. She has been through too much with ankle surgery and all to have to try to impress a new coach. She trusts him.

Thanks. My Daughter is doing well. It will now depend on how much she wants to put into it. If she will put forth the time needed, she will be able to make a contribution to the team.

Wondered when you were coming out of hibernation. I just came out myself. My daughter got her hard cast off yesterday. She still cannot put much pressure on the ankle but she is going to start conditioning this evening. Hopefully she will be able to play. If not, it is not the end of the world.

When you are the best, you do not have to tell a soul. Everyone will tell you. thumb[1].gif

Well, I have never been much of a butt kisser (maybe I should and my daughter would get to play more), however, Chad Hall at Richland has won 21 games while starting 1 senior, 3 soph. and 1 freshman. That deserves consideration.

    parents should keep quite

I believe that coaching will make the difference and I give Richland the advantage there.

Heck, my daughter is on the team and we do not know yet either. We are not the best at getting information out. It could simply be that my blond daughter did not tell us. She does that. One thing I have to say about the Richland coaching staff is that they are very approachable and do not mind talking to you about anything. They are not stuck up like some coaches I have met.
