I just read the first problem with this and know why Grace has been bad. The AD is a basketball coach and friends he’s going get his dudes…. Can’t have a guy like that running a very competitive for players west Knox school. Slow, tough kids aren’t going to cut it!  Gotta be able to tackle, run, pass the ball without the qb on his back every play.
I would call J Lowery who would do an amazing job and could whip your softball team in shape also!

Thanks for the advice, maybe. Couldn’t understand half of your jibberish. English is hard, should’ve paid attention in school.

maybe one of the coaches unloaded from carson newman comes to GCA. thinking baptist to baptist connection.

One things for sure, it will be a man with high character, just like Long was/is. Looking at the recent athletic hires, they've all been home runs. The AD/Boys BBall coach, the girls BBall coaches, the baseball coach, ALL are top notch and will have those programs winning and competing for championships. I'm sure they will find the right person to bring the football program back, as well.

This will be #4 since 2006. The Rusty experiment lasted 4 years, this one went 3 stints. Rusty was an odd cat but he could coach. We’ll get a good one this time. Got a really solid AD in place and a Head of School that wants to win. Stay tuned, Boog. Hope you wine drankin’ Catholics on Vermont Ave  get back to winning too.

also- acting like JL was a bad hire is outrageous. No support. No athletes to compete with some of the region best. Just wild and unchristian like to blame the coach that gave his all for a program for 4 years.

It was a 3 year “experiment” and he wasn’t the right fit. 8-22 in 3 years. 29-16 in the 4 years in DII prior to his hire. You want to go more?

GQ ain’t answering that call but I’m sure we will get a quality HC. Thanks for your insightful input.

GREAT Hire by Fulton. He knew grace was not going to be easy to recruit at and Fulton snuck in and stole him away. Fulton will win big with Coach leading the program back to relevance.

29-16 in DII before he got here, 8-22 under his tenure. We’re moving forward with this departure, not backwards.

  6. I’m sure the Head of School has his own list and I have full confidence that he will make a great hire. He’s a proven winner on the basketball court and took GCA to multiple state tournaments. The guy is competitive and wants to win. Experiment season is over and should’ve never happened.

The powers at Grace would not admit to it but I think you are right. Plus they dont want to have another ban from recruiting.

Different era, different leadership, apples and oranges compared to now. I answered the other part above.

Grace will not win more than 3 games a season until they invest in getting athletes to visit and attend that school.  Right now they have zero interest in working with and allowing kids from certian areas and backgrounds to be a part of anything there.  Go to the Lonsdale area...go to East Knoxville and Emerald Youth and offer vouchers, scholorships, finacial aid to THOSE kids.  They WON'T.  And we all know why.

We were winning in DII before this hire. I think it was a good guy but too much to handle. I wish him well at Fulton. As far as bringing in kids, that’s a process that has to be followed. An applicant has to apply for financial aid through an independent 3rd party to determine their financial percentage they can be given by a school. Until recently, GCA hasn’t had the ability to fund those financial aid situations. We have a good system of donors in place now that’s allowing us to reach out to the communities you mentioned and others. Diversity is a good thing and it’s good for the kids, as well. So, I agree with you, I hope we can continue to offer financial aid packages that will allow kids to attend GCA. And not just athletes, btw.

What is Grace going to do to start winning next year? Tough region for them to compete in when the "higher ups" in the school don't seem to care much about football.

Get a guy who can develop kids. I feel bad for the kids. They had the talent but just didn’t get developed the way you need to to compete in DII. 29-16 the first 4 years of DII. 8-22 the last 3 years. Nothing has changed other than hiring Long. I wish the guy well. He was a long shot since he had no HC experience and that probably had something to do with his W-L’s.

Fulton will be back in 3 years GCA will never be back until they start doing what the other privates do to get athletes.  Too many hands in the cookie jar there I am told. Congratulations to Fulton and Coach Long.  I'm sure going back to your home school as the head coach is a good feeling.

Grace will start winning again, starting next year. This isn’t an exit I hated to see. Good luck to him and Fulton. Time to turn the page, and much needed, in my opinion.

Will that Dunwoody mans show be on WEPG?

Very small press box at OS. The last time we were there, we had to call the game from the top row of the visitors stands. Tell woody to bring a long extension cord, there’s power over there. It’s a good view and didn’t bother us at all. Good luck Pirates, travel safe and heed the speed warning given earlier!
