  1. Considering your track record for predictions, I like the Cubs chances tonight. 25-1 over two years is dominance. Congrats to the Patriots for at least earning a split this year. I suspect Cubs get revenge tonight for their lone blemish in two years of 9aa play.
  2. Yes, those test scores sure are better and I hear there are tons of Cheatham students headed to Ivy League schools now that Curtis and Webb have had their input. Cheatham basketball is the ONLY program in the county(Boys) that has kept right on trucking and that has a lot to do with maintaining stability by promoting Coach Stuart to the Head Coaching position. I mean everybody knows that stability is terrible for kids right? That must be why they change principals almost every year and have such a large amount of teacher turnover in the county-what a brilliant philosophy that has worked so well and benefitted the children of Cheatham County(thank you Webb, Curtis, Collins, & Proffit)! As I have pointed out before on these boards(until the thread was locked or removed bc Curtis and his cronies scan these boards regularly and are thin skinned) this only happened after another botched hire attempt, so hard to credit Curtis or anyone at the BOE for making a really good decision and promoting Coach Stuart(who has done an outstanding job btw). Maybe the Cheatham Football Program would be where the basketball program is if they had hired the only slam-dunk candidate who had local ties and was very deserving(Coach Jackson). Instead, they have gone 3-17 the last two years on the heels of an undefeated season and state quarterfinal berth and are right back where they started(still no announcement on the new coach at the time of this writing-waiting to see who doesn't get the Creekwood job I guess). Webb and Curtis set the county back a good decade or so as it pertains to athletics and I am sure they are proud of it. THEY WANT THEIR TEAMS TO LOSE SO NOBODY WILL CARE ABOUT SPORTS IN THE COUNTY AND NOBODY WILL CHALLENGE THEIR ALMIGHTY AUTHORITY! I hope for the sake of the kids there that they recover, but the healing won't begin until the cancer(Curtis) is removed. Now go ahead and lock the thread or make it disappear altogether, Coacht. We sure can't have anybody telling the truth or criticizing the guilty around here!
  3. Wesley Harlan is one of the finest young men you will ever meet. He does things the right way and gets every ounce out of his ability. He will be successful in whatever he chooses to do in life. As far as Saunders, it is simply not right to call young people out on anonymous message boards and make statements about them that are untrue. I noticed that was your 2nd post 615. If you are a kid then I get the immaturity, but if you are an adult you are pathetic. Many kids go away to college and aren't happy with the decision they made. Does that mean they can't hack it? Maybe they just made the wrong choice. I guess Larry Bird "couldn't handle the pressure" when he left IU a week into his college basketball career. Knowing Jake Saunders I would say it is highly likely that he will make you eat your words in the not too distant future.
  4. I highly doubt that any of the drivel in this biased and uninformed post will come to fruition. It must have been very hard on you to watch Saunders lead all of those Harpeth massacres the last few years. Hopefully this year's Cubs can continue their dominance of the Indians.
  5. Saunders was at Motlow at the start of year, but didn't feel comfortable there and made the decision to leave. He should be playing elsewhere next year. I know Darden has been starting for a very good Motlow team. Wesley Harlan is playing at Martin Methodist, who is off to a great start as well. I could be wrong on this, but I don't believe capn is a Cubs fan(not exclusively at least). Cubs win at Franklin is clearly the best win of any team in 9aa thus far. As I said earlier in the thread, there should be a lot of competitive district games this year. Good luck to all teams and Go Cubs!
  6. Cheatham off to a nice 4-0 start after a big win on the road at Franklin last night. They are going to be much better than anticipated. Lots of young guys stepping up and playing well-should get tested again on the road against Kenwood this Friday. Go Cubs!
  7. I would have to give Harpeth the nod as the favorite this year with some quality guys with game experience returning and 2nd year in system. Cheatham will be better than everybody thinks and will improve as the season progresses as they integrate a lot of guys with little game experience. They lost a ton but still have some good pieces to go along with Austin Douglas, who could easily be the 9aa mvp when all is said and done. Westmoreland overachieved last year but fizzled at the end of the season and I can't trust anything Cleggy says about Heritage as he is the ultimate subjective homer-will have to see them before I pass judgement. Sycamore will be younger but better this year and Greenbrier will be decent as well. Bottom line is there should be a lot of competitive games in 9aa this season and no dominant team like last year's Cubs. Good luck to all teams this year!
  8. Actually, I love high school sports in general and basketball in particular and only post on this topic bc I do have a few principles. You show your true colors every time you post-just another arrogant, loudmouth hypocrite who knows far less than he thinks. Keep tearing up that YMCA rec league and beating your chest.
  9. Actually ICM, You are exactly the type of person I wouldn't want my kids to grow up and be like. You are bothered by kbrks and his posts that you and other CPAers feel are personal attacks motivated by revenge and that can be construed as hurtful to kids and their families. However, you don't seem to have a problem attacking others(kbrks) and other programs such as Franklin and Lipscomb. I am not privy to the specific situation at those schools, but I doubt if they have multiple transfers(who just happen to be outstanding, nationally ranked players) coming in every year. Many of the players and coaches at those schools work just as hard as many of the players and coaches at CPA, but lack the talent that Coach Maddux and CPA are able to "acquire." I don't feel like digging through past posts on here, but I know for a fact that you have made condescending and boastful posts on numerous occasions that were directed at more than one poster and even went so far as to challenge someone to meet you at half court during a CPA game(internet tough guy). You epitomize arrogance and hypocrisy and are a perfect representative of all the things about CPA that annoy high school basketball fans throughout this state.
  10. I stand corrected- 2 gold balls and should have been 3 if not for some goofy calls a few years ago. Still, not sure if the wins and success on the court are in line with the school's purported mission. Not that I agree, but often perception is seen as reality and CPA's rep across the state is not too great. But then again I guess I am just a hater. Drew has had a lot of success, but has done it in a way that most coaches can't. Haven't seen him develop home grown talent like most coaches must do to be successful. Bottom line is he is playing by a different set of rules.
  11. I think many people wonder how well Maddux would do on a level playing field. Jerry Green & Wade Houston would have Gold Balls if coaching at CPA the past few years. Would Maddux be lauded as a great coach as he is now in many circles if he coached at a aa public school that simply got the next crop of incoming 8th graders? I doubt it, but we will never find out for sure. One Gold Ball is not a lot to show for all that talent of the past few years and a damaged reputation statewide.
  12. I was sifting through the football boards and thought I would provide some info on this question. Jake Saunders and Jordan Darden will be playing together again next year at Motlow. Very talented bunch of guys heading to Tullahoma next year when you add Holt from East and Barford from JSS as well. Wesley Harlan signed with Martin Methodist and former Cub Mason Bates signed with Carson-Newman. Pretty impressive to have four guys from the same class of a smallish county school moving on to play at the next level. Best of luck to all of them as they continue their basketball careers! Good luck to the Cubs and Jackets on the gridiron this year as well. Jacket, you are truly one of the best and most respectful posters on coacht and I have always enjoyed your input! You may now return to 24/7 football talk as should be the case this time of year.
  13. Congrats Southside! Should be a really good championship game tomorrow.
  14. Wow! Keep the updates coming-thanks.
  15. Point taken. I have played, coached, and officiated the game and understand the difficult nature of officiating basketball games. The game is very fast paced and many calls are judgment calls(block/charge especially) that are completely subjective and often dependent upon the angle the official views the play from. Officiating is a very difficult task and I realize that every time the whistle blows on a 50/50 call half of the people in the gym(assuming both teams are equally represented in the stands) are going to agree and the other half will disagree. Anyways, CPA was clearly the superior team and officiating did not affect the outcome of that game. I just didn't agree with a couple of the calls on Darden even though I was sitting behind the Cheatham bench area and all 3 block/charge calls occurred on the opposite end of the floor. And yes, having 18 years experience as an official does qualify your comments better than simply being a sportswriter even though I have seen some bad officials around for years(not implying that you are one of those as I have no idea who you are). Good luck to CPA next week at MTSU.
  16. Hard to play when you can't see and even when he returned he was clearly affected by it. I know Jordan well and if there was any way he could have gotten back on the floor quicker he surely would have(don't think most trainers have eye patches on hand). In reality he probably shouldn't have ever returned and if this had happened in a regular season game I have no doubt that he wouldn't have returned at all. It was a very tough break and clearly impacted the way the 2nd half of that game went, but injuries are a part of the game and this one simply occurred at the worst time possible. That being said, East did what good teams do in that situation and took full advantage of it. Unfortunate yes, excuse for losing no.
  17. I am sure we have all seen our share of poor officiating and I have seen much worse than what was on display the other night at CPA. I don't think I hung his play on the refs and in no way, shape, or form did officiating affect the result, just said I didn't agree with 3 of the calls. First foul was all ball(it happened right in front of me), but surely nobody can cleanly block Blackwell's shot right. Second foul was a charge and clearly a good call. Third foul, also a charge, I thought the defender slid under him while he was in the air. Fourth foul Darden takes a charge and for the first time all night a block is called in that situation after some clear hesitation by the officials. So all three block/charge calls went against him and 2 were 50/50 at best. Congrats on your career as a sportswriter, but that doesn't make you an expert on officiating. Fouls passed on to keep him in the game? He played 6 minutes tops in the first half and had 3 fouls. Meanwhile CPA, with their trapping and aggressive defense, had one foul called against them in the first 13 minutes. Darden is still a relatively unpolished player-just started playing in middle school-but a tremendous athlete who does tend to get in foul trouble on a regular basis and is still learning the nuances of the game. Lazy and reckless though, we must agree to disagree on. Would like to emphasize again to those looking to start something here where there is nothing that officiating DID NOT AFFECT THE RESULT OF THE GAME. I thought I made that clear in my initial post.
  18. Thanks Nerd and good luck to you guys @ MTSU. In response to Cheatham getting into a running game and another poster wondering why not go to a zone-I believe you have to do the things that made you successful to have a chance to win. Cheatham is at their best in an up-tempo full-court game and have played man to man defense 99% of the time this season. Last thing you want to do is not play to your strengths and do something different in a do or die game. If you change your style and get clobbered you will second guess yourself forever and I also don't think that sends a good message to your team. Yes, adjustments must be made based on your opponent and what they like to do, but CPA simply has superior talent and the Cubs went down trying to do what they have done all year. Really impressed with CPA's defensive scheme and they are so hard to guard because they have weapons all over the floor who can hurt you in multiple ways. Cheatham looked very tentative in their half court offense early in the game instead of attacking the rim with the exception of Douglas, who simply had one of those nights where the ball wouldn't go in the basket, and the Lions length and aggressiveness had a lot to do with that. Darden has been in foul trouble regularly this year and had to stay on the floor last night. Even though I didn't agree with 3 of the 4 fouls called against him, you are correct in that he had to adjust and stay on the floor but didn't. CPA is clearly the best team in the state in any classification imo and I don't think there is a team in Tn that would have beaten them in that venue last night. Cubs had a great season but just ran into a machine last night and I don't think there is anything Coach Stuart could have done to change the outcome. Best of luck to CPA next week.
  19. Wasn't Cheatham's best night. CPA is a dominant team. Hope you have better luck against Brentwood than you did against the Cubs.
  20. Congrats to CPA for playing an outstanding game tonight and advancing to try and win their 3rd straight state tournament. That is one heckuva team and it will take a monumental effort for someone to knock them off. Blackwell is one of the best high school players I have ever seen and Bonds was outstanding tonight as well. The Cubs needed CPA to have an off night and have everything go perfectly to win but neither happened tonight. Coach Maddux had a great plan and took Saunders out of the game by running multiple defenders at him every time he touched it. Don't have any delusions about it changing the outcome, but the quick fouls on Darden expedited the process for sure. Great season for the Cubs, who finish 25-2 with losses to a pair of state tournament squads. Cheatham's seniors have had a great run and brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. Thank you guys. Good luck to CPA in Murfreesboro. You have an outstanding team and were really impressive tonight.
  21. I thought they were televising Brentwood-Kenwood. Has this changed? I actually just received confirmation that this game will be televised tonight on MYtv30. Kenwood-Brentwood has been postponed until Wednesday due to road conditions in Clarksville. Go Cubs!!
  22. I agree Nerd, lighten up everybody! Funny thing about this whole discussion is that the posters who suggested the game be moved to a larger venue are not Cheatham fans, but rather fans of other schools who compete with Cheatham who would like to see the game and may not be able to get a ticket. No big deal and no offense taken at Nerd's comment as he is stating a fact. Good luck to the Cubs tonight as they will need to be at their very best to pull this off, but I know they have it in them to do the seemingly impossible. What a fantastic opportunity to do something special! Go Cubs!!
  23. Classy first post there. Sounds like Jake must have stolen your girlfriend. You may want to double check on those "facts" of yours. At least you were accurate in your assessment of Wes, but the rest of your post is obviously filled with jealousy, bitterness, lies, and frustration which most likely stems from the fact that you either play or recently played for a team that never could beat the Cubs. If you are anything more than a child your post would be disturbing at best. Good luck to the War Eagles next year.
  24. LBD is referencing a preseason game from last year. Not really relevant in the sense that it was at a playday where you play 3 games a day and Blackwell, Allsmiller, and Richard did not play. Bonds, Lindsey and a bunch of role players played in that game for CPA(though some of those guys could sure shoot!) and Cheatham had a different team then as well. Only way it is relevant is that maybe Cubs gain some belief because they did win that game and yes, Darden did dunk on Lindsey.
