  1. Congrats to the Cubs on a big win and a District Championship! Showed some toughness in the 2nd half tonight with their backs against the wall-might have been just what they needed heading into the region. Kudos to Harpeth on a great effort. Clayton was awesome inside and they really competed defensively. Saunders and Harlan put the Cubs on their back tonight and found a way to get it done despite a nightmarish 1st half. Really fun high school basketball game by a pair of county rivals. MLK comes to Cheatham Saturday night. Go Cubs and good luck to all 9aa teams!
  2. I heard that the Cheatham vs Harpeth District Championship Game is to be aired on MYTV30 Tuesday Night-that is awesome for these kids! Harpeth has been playing well lately and as I have said since summer they are certainly capable of testing the Cubs. Should be a good game on Tuesday. Been fun on coacht this year-really enjoyed the banter with the Heritage fans. I have to give your team some credit-excellent post player in Cunningham and some scrappy guards who are fundamentally sound and can shoot it. Lyon played extremely well last night too and they showed some toughness in the 3rd quarter after getting down big. Hard part about stopping Cheatham is that they have 4 guys who can go off on any given night. Darden and Harlan were outstanding last night even though Saunders and Douglas didn't have their typical games. Could be the other way around on Tuesday-any of those 4 can really hurt you. This team is just so much fun to watch and I hope to see them play at least 6 more games! Also want to give some credit to Coach Stuart -he is very humble and always deflects attention from himself, but the guy has done an incredible job in his 1st year as a head coach with all of the personnel losses and not getting the job until early June. 22-0 is a heckuva way to start off your head coaching career. Hope to see a big crowd at Vol St Tuesday. Go Cubs!!
  3. Congrats to the Cubs for an unbelievable regular season! This is a great accomplishment that will never be forgotten. Now everybody is 0-0 again and it is all about who can elevate their game and handle the pressure of elimination games. Cubs need to go 2-0 this weekend and set themselves up for region in ideal position. Cleggy-nachos and a coke from concessions will suffice. Looking forward to a good atmosphere at Vol St this weekend. Go Cubs!
  4. Cheatham now 20-0 and only a home game against White House tomorrow stands between them and a perfect regular season. Game against Heritage Friday was a good one. Saunders put on a show on Senior Night. The 1st quarter slam really got him going and he ended up tying his career high with 37 points. If there was any doubt about who should get MVP this performance should have erased it. Still impressed with Heritage though-they have some guys who can shoot it and are fundamentally sound. Their post player getting in foul trouble was a big part of the game Friday night. If someone could post the District Tourney schedule when finalized it would be greatly appreciated. Go Cubs!
  5. I fully expect the Cubs to get Heritage's best shot tonight. Heritage gave them some problems in their first meeting, but I think you will see a different Cubs team tonight. Darden definitely didn't have one of his better games that night and Harlan was in foul trouble early. Something tells me they will play well on Senior Night, but as I said after the 1st meeting- Heritage is better than I thought and can provide a challenge. We will find out shortly.
  6. Cheatham goes for win #20 tonight on Senior Night in Ashland City against Heritage. This group of guys has been instrumental in taking a down program and lifting it into rarified air. All that stands between the Cubs and an undefeated regular season are a pair of home games. I knew they would be really good this year, but I don't think anyone really expected this. If they can get it done tonight and Tuesday they will accomplish a feat that will probably never be duplicated at CCCHS. When Boyd, Harlan, and Saunders walked into the high school as freshmen the team was coming off a 2 year period with 3 total wins. Maybe that helps put into perspective just how far these kids have helped bring this program. Darden moved in as a Sophomore and has also had a huge impact. Congratulations to these guys and senior Brandon Shelton as well. Hope a big crowd makes it out tonight to share in honoring these Seniors-they deserve it. Go Cubs!
  7. I believe Westmoreland beat Heritage 43-38.
  8. I thought records didn't matter. You can't have it both ways. Over half of Cheatham's non-district schedule(5 of 9) was comprised of aaa teams, LA & East were AA state tourney teams last year, and their only single a opponent is ranked in the state's top 10 in that division. Can't control district schedule-so sounds like a decent schedule to me. In addition, they share 4 common opponents with aaa Kenwood-your team. I suppose you need to start submitting the lookingfortalent rankings statewide so everyone can have a better grasp of who is really good in your alternate reality.
  9. I think it is easy for all of us to see that what you see is nowhere near reality. Cheatham is unbeaten and plays a more difficult non district schedule than most aa teams. They are clearly a top 5 aa team. Sorry you can't admit it bc you got your feelings hurt when the Cubs whipped your Knights.
  10. No, you are a sore loser bc you can not acknowledge the FACT that your team got their butts kicked by a better team. Instead you choose to make a long list of excuses and fail to give the better team credit. That pretty much defines sore loser. Cheatham was a substate team last year. How far did Kenwood go? Cheatham sliced Kenwood's defense up all night-that is reality. I like Kenwood's program and have always been very complimentary of them and wish them the best of luck the rest of the way. Coach Stigall does a great job there and they have good kids who play very hard. It is too bad you don't have the ability to acknowledge defeat, wish the Cubs luck, and move on. In regards to CPA, no one that I have seen on here has claimed that Cheatham is better than CPA-to do so would demonstrate a lack of sense. However, the Cubs are one of the few teams that have the capability of challenging CPA on a given night. I hope they meet somewhere down the road so we can find out.
  11. Kenwood's weakness is they don't have a true pg . Cheatham does and Harlan was dominant vs every defender Kenwood threw at him. The game really wasn't ever in doubt as the Cubs were in control from start to finish. How can you say it was Cheatham's best game when you have only seen them once? Cheatham has no "fluke losses" either-they have 0 losses. How about you just admit Cheatham is better than Kenwood as was proven on the floor and quit making excuses. You sound like a sore loser who is having trouble accepting reality. I think Kenwood is a good team, but Cheatham is better.
  12. So let me see if I follow this logic. Cheatham beats Kenwood rather easily by 14. CPA beats Kenwood by 20+. Yet somehow Kenwood is talented enough to play CPA tight, yet Cheatham could play their best and lose by 20. Now I know comparing scores in a small sample size is a faulty way of predicting future outcomes, but I am really having trouble following your analysis here. Cheatham could be a 20 point underdog vs the Lions, but I think they cover that spread on their best night.
  13. Cheatham beat Harpeth tonight 66-58 in a hard fought contest. Harpeth has definitely improved since December and they have some good shooters in Anderton and Williams and a solid presence in the post in Clayton. They defended with a great deal of effort tonight and the Cubs couldn't seem to shake them, even after building a 16 point lead early in the 4th. They will be the biggest threat to the Cubs come District Tourney time imo. Cheatham played well in spots tonight. Saunders led the way with 19 points and Austin Douglas continues to be a force with 16 points and 17 boards. Harlan pitched in 17 and I thought McGowan did a good job on Clayton after Darden had to sit with 4 fouls. However, they turned the ball over way too much tonight and will definitely need to work on that the next couple of weeks. Harpeth's defense played a role in the turnovers, but many of them were unforced. The back to back 3's by Saunders and Harlan to end the 3rd quarter were huge, and they knocked down their free throws late to salt it away. 16-0 and counting! Go Cubs!
  14. Completely disagree. To say that there are players like Saunders "every where on every team" is just plain silly or misinformed. His best games are against their toughest opposition and stats don't tell the whole story. He carried them against East and hit big shot after big shot when Darden and Harlan were on the bench for significant periods with foul trouble. The best thing about Saunders isn't his scoring, defense, passing, or rebounding though. His best quality is that he is a fierce competitor who will do whatever it takes to win and that is all that matters to him. If that means guarding the opponent's best player and detracting from his scoring then so be it-he doesn't care as long as the Cubs win and they have been doing a lot of that this year. Norl, Saunders and Holt are all really good players and I am done with the comparisons. I suppose we will have to agree to disagree.
  15. Thought Saunders did a good job defensively that night and the stats support my opinion. Both really good players and two good teams as well.
  16. Saunders guarded Norl the entire game, scored more, shot better, and his team won. Go watch the tape again. I know it wasn't Daniel's best game and I think he is an excellent player and great kid who deserves all the accolades he receives, but Jake was better that night. I don't believe in getting on an anonymous message board and being negative towards high school athletes period. I may take a jab at CPA from time to time, but would never criticize one of their players either. They have some great ones there right now and I know those kids work really hard and are very talented. The streak they have going vs in-state teams is pretty incredible and those accomplishments should not be discounted even if some question the method of assemblage. All I am saying is that Saunders deserves to be in the conversation when it comes to top sg in Tn. Not sure if he plays the 1 or 2, but Williams at Wilson Central is another really good one. He can light it up and has serious range as well.
  17. Saunders and Darden both played for Team Nashville. Love Norl-super kid and really good player, but Saunders clearly won that matchup a couple weeks ago. Doesn't mean he is better, but he definitely was that night. Never mentioned ppg-watch the kid play and you will see what I am talking about . Darden also played for Team Nashville and is a big time athlete. You should remember him from last year if you saw them play Cascade as he had a nasty posterization in that one. The Cubs have a couple of other stand outs as well. Harlan is an outstanding pg and Douglas is really stepping it up. Go Cubs!
  18. I am sure you are right. Not afraid to admit I am biased, but haven't seen a better 2 this year.
  19. Haven't seen anybody declare the Cubs locks for the Glass House. They are unbeaten, having a great season, and a viable candidate to get there though. I am sure they are well aware that it won't be easy and haven't forgotten how it felt to come up short a year ago. Lot of basketball still to be played. Those Tennessean writers are some real insiders. Bet they couldn't name a single Cheatham player. Don't see Harpeth winning at Cheatham, but that is why they play the games! We will find out Friday.
  20. I would take Saunders against any 2 guard in aa, especially in a big game. How many times have you seen the Cubs play Gotcha?
  21. I think they are both top 50. Actually I am not privy to that info, but 99% sure both will play somewhere next year. They are both great high school players and I would prefer to focus on this season right now rather than speculate.
  22. Don't see anybody in 9aa upsetting the Cubs this year. Heritage had the best chance when at home and having a hot shooting second half with Cubs cold and in foul trouble-still resulted in a 15 point road win for Cheatham. Nobody has stayed within double digits and something tells me this mature and experienced team is starting to get things revved up for the postseason. The top teams in 10aa are athletic and tough and will not be an easy out. Bottom line is Cubs have had a great year and if they can finish up the regular season at 21-0 that would be one heck of an accomplishment. In the postseason anything can happen and one bad night can spell the end for anybody-happened to the Cubs against East in substate last year. As far as Saunders and Darden-both are getting looks and neither has made a decision yet regarding next year. Neither of these guys have had any serious problems off the court and can definitely play. Neither of them is going to win a math contest, but decent grades and test scores as far as I know. Saunders will be a steal for somebody-he doesn't look like much as far as measurable go-until the game starts. When they played CPA in preseason last year he was the best player on the floor and lit them up for about 30 in a win(I know Blackwell & Allsmiller did not play CPAers, but Lindsey and Bonds did). He has also had a lot of success on the aau circuit as well. Darden is a freakish athlete who is having to play out of position this year. He is naturally more of a face the basket player and could definitely play the 3 at the next level even though only 6'4 bc of his length and athleticism. He is as explosive as anybody in the midstate athletically. He and Saunders both seem to play better against better competition and that will serve them well in the postseason this year and at the next level. Warrior you are right. I know everyone associated with Cheatham wishes Bates hadn't moved to Cookeville. He really started to blossom last year and has been playing great lately for the Cavs. Add a 6'4 guy who can shoot it, handle it, and guard any position to what Cheatham has now and they would be even more formidable. This is the time of year when it really starts to get fun and the intensity gets cranked up a couple of notches. Who knows how far the Cubs can/will go, but it is going to be fun to find out. Looking forward to seeing some great games!
  23. Yes, Austin Douglas. Great kid and player. He has a nose for the ball and always seems to be in the right place. His offensive rebounding was the one constant for the Cubs last night and was quite possibly the difference in the game.
  24. Cheatham had 3 starters on the bench early in the second quarter with foul problems. Harlan's 3rd and Darden's 2nd were really bad, so don't agree with the refs swallowing the whistles on Cheatham's behalf. I think one ref called about 10 walks on Cheatham and none on Heritage as well. 2nd half there were a ton of fouls called on Heritage and when their post fouled out it was over. I agree that the final score was misleading. Too bad they didn't let them play. Heritage played well last night and is better than I thought. They would have beaten everyone else in the district with that type of effort. They will have the Cubs full attention when they come to Ashland City.
  25. You are a perfect representative of CPA ice cream boy. Go dominate some pick up at the Y against a group of 12 year olds and beat your chest.
