  1. So obviously you're a teacher. I'll say I again. Teaching or coaching is not a hard job compared to the jobs I listed. And don't talk down about the people that hold those jobs. Without them you probably wouldn't even be able to leave your house. And to add to that 50% of those teaching today are a complete joke. I'm assuming you are in the other 50%.  DB doesn't have good coaches at some positions. That's a proven fact. Live with it.

I believe you said that teaching is not "real work".

I do not disagree with you about the jobs you listed being real work.  I do not disagree that those jobs may be more physically exhausting then teaching.  I was not talking down on any of the jobs,  I was simply using your examples about what you believe "real work" is.

I totally agree that we need workers in all different fields to make our communities and our country function.  And for your 50-50 comment, much like in any profession there are employees that do exceptional jobs and those that should look for other employment.  Most teachers that are not producing are not in the profession very long anymore.

I guess my previous posts on this topic were not as clear as what I intended them to be.

If HS coaches only job is to coach a sport, then I agree they should be held accountable for the product on the field/court or other area of competition.  College and professional coaches are out if they do not produce, the majority of them are not teaching college courses and lesson planning throughout the week like HS coaches are doing for their students.

And yes, I am a teacher.  I do not coach any sport, but I do have friends that are coaches and I see the sacrifices they make as well as sacrifices their families make.  Most of them are coaching because they enjoy helping young people strive to be better.  If they are coaching for a reason other then that, they will weed theirself out.

  2. It's a game. Doesn't matter if their getting paid 50 cents an hour or 50 dollars an hour. To get paid to be involved in a game is a pretty good perk. Also, it's not like they didn't know what they were signing up for. Their probably making a lot more money than these guys I see outside in all sorts of weather digging ditches, doing concrete work, builders in general. You know, real work. You won't find many (if any) coaches coming home after work with even a blister on his finger. I guess it all boils down to if you want to be a winner or a loser. The powers that be in Kingsport have decided to be losers. They bilked the tax payers and wasted millions on a fake football program. New turf, field house, lighting, upper deck (because nobody else had one), new score board with big screen (because Science Hill had one), new uniforms. All this to look good but forgot the most important part. A good coaching staff. All show and no go.

You sure don't act like it's a game with your comments on here.

And I'm sorry that you feel teachers are not doing "real work". We should probably all quit educating students so their parents can decide what is important enough for them to learn. Hey...then maybe when these kids got older they could get a real job working in horrible outdoor conditions so they can dig ditches and have blisters on their hands.

My whole point to this topic is people need to stop comparing apples to oranges with the band to the football team.

And you're right, these coaches knew what they signed up for and the money is not why they do it. Like I said it's not like there are a lot of people beating down the door to work from 7:30am to 10:30pm from August to November.

  3. Everyone understands that the coaches are teachers first...right?  It's not like college, or professional sports where all parts of the coaches job is related to their sport.  These guys get to school no later than 7:30am for most of them and teach classes until 2:55 or 3:15pm.  Then during their lunch break they watch film, game plan, plan for practice.

Now, take the head coach out of this conversation, but if you count the number of hours these coaches put into film, weight room, game planning, practice, games, summer camps and divide that by the stipend they receive to actually coach you might come out to about $0.50 an hour.

It's not like people are beating down the door to coach high school athletics, and usually the people that do want to either are not qualified to teach-much less qualified to be around young people to help mentor.

Yes, I'm disappointed that DB had a bad season, but Good Grief-put some things in perspective.

So much talk about the great band that DB has.  Yes they are good, do you know what the band director does all day?  Yep, that's right he teaches his band students.  His job is revolved around the band.  The same cannot be said of all the high school coaches, they don't get to teach and coach their players all day long.

I'm not saying that some coaches might not be cut out to do the job, but think about everything they sacrifice To Do this job.  Everything the athletic coaches do is all after school and is monitored by the TSSAA.  To my knowledge the band does not have any organization that monitors their practice time, or amount of contact that the band director has with them during the "off season".

  4. It was the 2011 Sevier County playoff game, final - Bears win it 35-28.     Some of my DB friends even left in the 3rd quarter and I heard that several SC fans left as well.       But here's the point:    playing against WB is not like playing Sullivan Central or Volunteer, if you get a chance to bury them and you don't then it can come back to bite you.     If DB takes a big lead into the half and then lets up I will be shocked.

I totally disagree.  Especially with everyone in 6A making playoffs, in fact I think the opposite.  If you drill a teams eyes shut-then the next time you play the players and coaching staff remember that.

Blazer- I bet you were a Spurrier fan when he was at Florida too.

  5. No way will DB let up in the 2nd half, they learned a painful lesson about doing that (see below)

I haven't watched your youtube link, but my guess is that this is of the Sevier County game a couple years back.

As we have heard, DB is young and with a young team you put in as many young guys as possible in a game.  So I think if DB has a chance to put in some of their young talent in the 2nd half that they will, as long as the game is still under control.

  6. Good thing DB is the tribe.

This thread looks like the Trail of Tears with all the crying about the referees.

    RWR

Wow, Big Man kicking people while they're down. I've only read congratulatory remarks. I'll be the first to say that refs don't lose a game for a team, but they sure can cause the other team to win.

Ha! That being said, your Defensive stand at the end was what won the game. No officiating caused the int, just a HS kid making a play when it was needed.

Like I said, good luck the rest of the way.

    Roll Tribe!

  7. Good game Ridgers! You can leave with your tails held high and purring loud. Good luck rest of the season. No excuses, you all were the better team tonight. I definitely see you conundrum with the offensive coaching. To not take advantage of the weapons and height advantage on the outside is down right criminal.

  8. OR FRONT - 240, 225, 200,

    OR LB - 170, 210, 215, 160

I think DB imposes their will and runs for 300+ yards

    ROLL TRIBE ROLL

I don't know about imposing will's, but I believe we get a TD or 2 from Special Teams and maybe another from our Def.  I believe we'll be able to run the ball, but 300+ will be a big tote to carry.  Maupin might end up making a liar out of me if he keeps making good reads.

  9. Front line on D...6'6" 260 left DE, Nose guard 5'10" 240, Right DE 6'4" 240, Middle LB 6"2 220 and 6'3" 235 just to name a few

    RWR!!!

Yea, I'd say that's pretty good size.  Be hard to find many D1 schools with DE's that size.  And the 2 LB's mentioned have legit size as well.

    It's getting closer.

  10. OR doesn't have the size to match up. DB will impose their will in the 2nd half and pound the ground running game

    Roll Tribe Roll

Deck- I hope you are right, but how do you figure that OR doesn't have the size?  From what I have read and seen I think they have just as much if not more size than we do.  Their TE (ASU commit) plays some on defense and he's 6'5" 245, then we have Tee to deal with on the oustide at 6'4" 190 (guess).  That's pretty good size.
