  1. You can't be serious! Your saying MJ Bears are not physical and don't have depth? No disrespect to BHS because I know that they have a great team but you won't be seeing a final score of 31 to 14. If BHS wins, it won't be by that.

Oh I'm serious, brother. And I'm not doubting MJ's strength & depth. I'm just confident that Brentwood is stronger & they have more depth.

  2. Gallatin's td did not come on the freshman!! It was because the Qb got sacked again and fumbled. Gallatin did an excellent job in the first half of stopping Brentwood. They just had very little offense with a couple of the starters sitting out due to the previous week so Gallatin had several underclassmen playing multiple snaps. Brentwood played well in the second half and maybe they had an off night. However, I still feel Mt Juliet is better than them. Also not impressed by their fanbase either. Late coming to the game and seats not full. Then you get mistruths on here. Typical. Go Bears!

I did not say Gallatin's TD came against Freshman. "FR" stands for Fumble Recovery.

  3. Revenge game. BHS returns all but 6 starters. These 16 returning starters & 36 Bruin seniors have been working toward this game for 12 months. It will seem close until the 4th quarter when the BHS depth and physicality help them pull away. Brentwood starting D has 6 shutouts this year (Gallatin's TD came on FR & Hunters Lane TD came late in the 4th Q against the 2nd team D after the 3rd team QB fumbled in Bruin territory). Brentwood will need to avoid the penalties and special teams turnovers - which they've done in 11 out of 12 games (Blackman!)... BHS 31 MJ 14.

  4. I wouldn't call it hatred. BHS doesn't hate RHS. But we do hate to lose to them. It goes back to when half our student body was pulled away & sent to the new school. Those left behind had to deal with small, cramped, outdated, musty & broken down facilities while the kids who transferred to RHS got a state of the art campus. BHS struggled to win after losing so many players to RHS. Then RHS was good for a couple of years while BHS was down & that's where the BHS fire began. BHS has grown & nearly replaced all the lost students. And we've rebounded in football and been very good the last 6 years or so. Now, it's just fun to beat up on the little brother and keep him in his place. :]

  5. If my team was in 7-AAA I'd say the same thing - b/c it is the best district in TN and I drink a lot and sometimes am given to hyporbole. But this district in no way dominates the TN H.S. football landscape like the SEC dominates NCAA FBS. I may change my tune after my Brentwood Bruins play Smyrna next week & Blackmon later... I'll keep you posted.

  6. I'm not sure where you get your information but I assure you Coach Adeylot was not passed over for that reason. I am "very" close to a member of that search/interview committee and Jack Daniels was selected because of who he was and his style fit the players ability that were on the team. Brentwood would have been very satisfied with Coach Adeylot and he would have been a great hire....just not as good as Jack D was. You should not post things on here of which you obviously know little about.

I'm not sure who you are, but I am long time member of the BHS booster club & I know for a fact that Adeylot was dropped from consideration when he made it clear that he would not allow any input from the parents or booster club. My information comes straight from the search committee. But don't let that get you too excited. It does not mean that Ron is a bad guy or a bad coach. His style would just not be a good fit at BHS because BHS parents are going to be actively involved & it takes a talented coach to balance the good & the bad from that. We had that with Crawford & it just won't be a good fit with Adeylot. He's a fine coach, but he needs more autonomy than he'd get at BHS.

  7. Bruins have 2 assistants on board that would do a good job as the head coach. You could also go over the middle school and get their coach. He knows as much about kids and football as anyone.

BMS Middle School FB Coach Dennis Harrison is NOT a candidate for this position. He's not a good coach at all. He is lazy, un-disciplined & a very poor communicator. He's only allowed to coach at BMS because he has NFL experience & the academics running BMS believe that's enough to qualify him. The booster club would not support him. Keidel understands this & there will be no offer to Harrison. Look for the job to go to Gore from McGavock or Winfree, the current OC.

  8. FYI, Ron Adeylot interviewed for the BHS job at the time we hired Jack Daniels. He was passed over because he insisted that the parents stay out of his way & he didn't want to answer to the booster club. BHS parents aren't crazy helicopter parents, but they do insist on being involved. So Adeylot wasn't a good fit. I doubt he'd be a good fit this time around either. He lives in Brentwood & is well known among the parents, but is not a favorite of theirs. Looks to me like Gore or Winfree are the best candidates.

  9. Crawford made this statement; “I wasn’t particularly looking for anything, but the opportunity to be in a one-school community was the overriding factor — the ability to raise funds and rally the troops, those type things, are somewhat easier. one-school community? Bradley Central is in Cleveland or did I miss something?

I think the underlying issue is that the Cleveland school district only has one high school: Cleveland. Bradley Central is a separate district (I think). This gives him more flexibility to run the program as he wants. He just needs to get permission from the school board, etc. for stuff & they don't have to consider what the other schools will think about it (remember the Ravenwood Field House debate last month). Probably also means he's going to be able to make a lot more money since there are no other head coaches to consider. That's my guess.

  10. I do not have a hi-tech phone so I don't have internet on it. Is there a number I can text to get updates on this game as it progresses.

    :popcorneater:

Friday Night Live Scores at http://fnlscores.com/ does live updates & you can sign up for up to the minute text scores. If you can't log into the web, try texting "60611010" & request to be added to the list. That should might it. If you don't get a response, then you'll have to sign up online. Go Bruins!

  11. It's just a shame that the Brentwood coaches clearly aren't willing to do whatever it takes to win ballgames. Look at their four losses... Their starting QB turned the ball over 14 times in those four games, yet they never tried any other options at that position. BHS's defense is incredible and their running back is just as good. If you threw in a qb that could at least hang on to the ball, this team would waltz into the state title game (to then lose to Riverdale).

Your numbers are a little high, my friend. QB had 10 turnovers in BHS's 4 losses. Check out the stats on m@xpreps here. Still too high, I agree though. And you're also wrong that Coach hasn't tried any other options. He did insert the Sophomore backup QB in the 2nd half against Franklin week 10 who did a good job. No doubt QB play needs to improve. But I'm not sure we have a better option on the team right now. And heck, Coach Crawford likes to put all his best athletes on defense. So if we have a great QB, he's probably playing D anyway!

  12. Original post predicted MJ 35 BHS 28. But if BHS scores 4 TD's I think they'll win. 4 TD drives will take enough time off the clock to keep MJ's offense off the field. MJ hasn't yet faced a D like Brentwood. Of course, Brentwood will have to protect the FB better than it has the past 3 weeks - an amazing 14 fumbles with 9 lost (after losing only 5 fumbles the previous 9 weeks). QB has struggled with turnovers. Although, not 16 fumbles lost as a previous writer said. He's lost 9 of 14 fumbles & has indeed thrown 9 interceptions. 38 completions on the year with 7 TD passes. But this is a triple option team, so don't worry about the passing too much. BHS will need just enough passing to keep the safeties from cheating up too close. And if MJ sees the film from last week's game where QB was 8 for 12 & 143 yards then they'll be spending a lot of time this week preparing for the pass, too.

Here's my bold prediction... strong D combined with an average but clock-chewing offense beats a strong offense and a mediocre defense. BHS 17 MJ 14.

I think BHS is peaking at the right time.

  13. Brentwood is overrated. I know that b/c that's my team! Murphy Fair Coach's Poll & AP both have them at # 7 in the state and that's way too high. Too many things left to prove. But... the MOST overrated team in the state is Smyrna. They lost all of their playmakers from last year. Can't see any reason to have them ranked # 2. Nevertheless, I'm surprised to see that they lost to BGA. Brentwood has the edge here because it's a home game and they've done a a better job protecting the football (so far). Have to think that the BHS rookie QB should be a little more relaxed & confident than Smyrna's rookie QB. Don't forget... no matter how fired up Smyrna will be coming off a loss where they were expected to win, Brentwood is equally motivated by two losses to Smyrna last year.

  14. Good question. From the other side of the field I thought the same thing. I thought it would either be offsides on Brentwood or a dead ball/false start on Franklin.

However, ability to run the ball and turnovers were the key to the game. A great hard fought typical Franklin/Brentwood nailbiter. Both teams played hard. Prayers for Jason Springer. I hate seeing kids get hurt.

Was the penalty here a "false start"? Or was it "illegal formation"? They both have the same hand signals. But illegal formation is not a dead ball foul & the play continues. I didn't see any movement from the press box, so I'm thinking it was illegal formation & the call was correct. We'll catch the replay & see.

  15. Brentwood won and I'm fine with that bc the Rebels had their chances. I also know that you shouldn't allow a bad call or no call to lose a game for you. However, the fumble early where they recovered on a 'dead ball' foul and then scored is bogus. I also wonder how in the world you can call a horse collar when there is no penalty for that in high school football (btw It wasn't a horse collar in the first place even if there was a rule covering that). For all the mistakes made by Franklin (staying in a 3-man front being one and not adjusting until it was too late being one - the Brentwood coaches adjusted very quickly to us), the Rebels played a heck of a game. Let's hope we meet again bc I think the Rebels win a rematch.

You're wrong about the horse collar. It is a personal foul penalty in high school football, per NFHS rules. It was added last season. Feel free to verify: http://football.refs.org/rules/NFrules2009pr.html. You're also wrong that it wasn't a horse collar. It absolutely was. Watch the replay on Williamson County Channel 3 (or Brentwood Channel 9) & you'll see it clearly. Good luck to Franklin & Brentwood both in the playoffs.

  16. I k'eep t'rying t'o t'ell y'all i't a'll s'tarts w'ith t'he c'enter! :mrgreen::popcorneater:

I kept the stats last week for Brentwood & got a good look at Mathers & the entire Blackman team. Mathers is head & shoulders above any RB we've played all year - and we've played a lot of good ones. But to address this post. While Blackman does have a very good offensive line, I was surprised to find that the rest of the Blaze runners had only a 1.5 yard-per-carry average Friday night (on 8 rushes), while Mathers was just under 8 yards per carry. This was not skewed by any sacks (there were none - again, good job O line). I wouldn't say anything negative about the Blaze O line, but this 1.5 ypc stat does show that Mathers' doesn't owe his numbers to anyone else - he is a special talent. I'm sure he'll be playing on Saturdays in the SEC in a couple years. Good luck to him.
