  1. I bet this is how this got started....

Alcoa player: "Coach Rankin, Central isn't playing by the rules"

    Rankin: "what do you mean?"

Alcoa player: "They're not laying down and letting us just walk over them"

Rankin: "You mean they're playing dirty?"

Alcoa player: "Yeah, that's it, that is dirty"

Rankin: "Don't worry, I've got a play for that.... Whine on 2, Whine on 2"

Your kid has ice on his knee, after a football game, and other kids were limping off, during a football game.....you might want to consider going with "alcoamommy". I thought Alcoa was "physical"!

lol...funny (sarcasm). i enjoy reading what people write and rarely respond to what is said, but what I saw and heard was a coach repeatedly telling his players to forget what the other guys are doing and play your game, but I guess you had a better view than i did. i've gone back and watched every play. central was completely man-handled by alcoa's o-line.

to one of your proponents...74 didn't choke anybody, but i guess when a bigger, stronger kid overpowers a weaker one it's easier to say that. whining???? i have watched this kid as a starter since his sophomore year...he's strong and intense and finishes blocks, not dirty, but whatever excuse you need. 69 struggled all night with him. no excuse for walking by number 74 and punching him in the groin (he wasn't kicked) we've seen how powerful alcoa's o-line is and has dominated all season. central has not seen the proficiency and strength 55 and 74 bring each week. too bad for them, but not alcoa's problem. no excuse for intentionally reverting to questionable tactics out of desperation...all night long.

  2. This Alcoa fan doesn't anticipate a walk in the park. I believe, as others, the size, power and numbers will be hard for Webb to overcome, but these boys don't take anything for granted.

On another note, many Alcoa fans will be wearing pink to honor the William Blount student that died this week on her way home from school. Most will be wearing Alcoa "pink out" t-shirts from a previous season. Webb, Maryville and Cleveland fans are welcome to participate.

  3. Excellent prospective!

I understand the concern some parents had over closing Ft. Craig. It remains to be seen how this will effect the development of those children. (by the way Ft. Craig was not filled with "intellectually superior children" - performance by those children after leaving Ft. Craig showed no dramatic advantage over kids from the other elementary programs- in some cases the adjustment to a different learning style proved to be a difficult transition- I love Ft. Craig and the Staff! Most of that staff are still teaching, just at a different place. I liked Ft. Craig's year round schedule and wish the whole system would adopt it. Some of the "gifted" children's performance at Fort Craig may of had more to do with having well-educated actively involved parents than the system.) I agree the school and the new turf are really unrelated-although it may seem to be an inequitable allocation of resources.

Maryville is unique. Some schools are just sports oriented with little emphasis on academics. I believe Maryville's commitment to excellence in all things (academics and athletics) is reflected on the field and in the classroom. Just look at the quality and character of the teachers and the coaches. Head Coach/AD is not some mindless jock. This is a class school system top to bottom, academics and athletics. They compliment each other perfectly. This is the way it should be. Our system stays constantly on the cutting edge of education innovations. People don't come here to see what we are doing in athletics (football). Far more call and send representatives from all over to see what we are doing academically. Maryville's doing it right!

For those who feel football gets too much hype! It would be nice if someone could accurately analyze how the success in football helps other programs. I know personally that the band makes an extra $20,000 a year. Every season we are playing at least three and sometimes four more home games (concessions). Over the last 10 years we are talking $150,000 to 200,000. Now the band has an excellent field to practice on no matter what the weather conditions are like. The advertisers and now the national (ESPN) recognition can't do anything but help the school.

I wonder how many schools out there would just love to have our "problem?"

As a Catholic fan am I allowed to say WOW?????

Me, too...WOW!! I think there's a difference between pride and narcissism. I don't know your coach/AD, but from what I've read and heard about him, I think 'humble' is a word I would associate with the man. You would do well to try that.

  4. It was never my intention when I started this thread to bash Rankin or imply that I want him gone. On the contrary, I DON'T want him to leave. I have a great deal of respect for this man. I have yet to hear one of the boys say a negative word about him. Yes, they have complained about practice, but never of the man, himself. My son would be hate to lose him as his coach. I have been very discouraged with the number of people who want him to go ahead and leave...are you serious! We didn't make it to state. I know the expectation is to go every year, but that's unrealistic. If anyone talked to Rankin after the game, you would have seen how upset he was for his players. "I hate it for these kids," were his words.

I feel like there were some personnel issues in positions all season. Nix is a great DC, but against those big passing teams, imo, there needed to be some adjustments made on the line. There were some big boys that could have been in there to beef up the line. Play some of those boys on both sides. In a game like we had with CAK you got to use everything you have.

With Wall as QB, I hope to see Fergusson and Dean utilized more next year. These two are great athletes. For those of you who enjoy basketball, go see Dean. He's the real deal!

  5. #12 Charlie High- QB, CAK #25 Josh Smith - WR, CAK #16 Davis Howell - WR, CAK (#5 Franklin Murchinson WR, CAK is very good as well, just a bit small to garnish as much attention as the other two WR's but would be a featured receiver on most teams)

#5 Wharton, CPA #29 Coleman - RB/LB Milan Possibly #12 Koko(sp?)- RB/LB, Alcoa (missed this year due to injury)

Those are the ones that come to mind immediately, but I know there are dozens more. CAK's entire offensive line returns and they have some big time potential with several D1 sized players.

Without a doubt, CAK brings back a tough offensive team. Alcoa will bring back many key players, as well. This will be a very large senior class that carries a great deal of talent. It will be good to see #12 Koko return to the field. He was a large asset to lose this season. #3 Turbyfill, # 10 Anthony and #74 Loy will provide the Senior leadership that seemed to be lacking this season. The boys sure didn't like the taste of defeat. It's been awhile for them...but it was good for them, as well. With winning comes losing and how you deal with it what matters. I think it's called the weight room!

FD, good luck to you and your boys tomorrow night!

  6. Gary Rankin will be the new football coach at Knoxville Catholic. It has been an amazing run at Alcoa just as it was at Riverdale and at Smith County but I feel like Rankin is ready to take a final step to this private school after being in the public school system as a head coach these last 30 years (1982-2011).

That's what some of the players came home saying today after school. From the dollars they were talking, it would be hard to walk away from that. If it's true, I can't blame the man. A person has to do what's best for his family. I just think the timing could have been a little better. The boys are still feeling quite a sting from Friday, and then to hear the coach is leaving...well, you can imagine how that drives the sting a little deeper.

  7. Ok, dad....

Are you serious? Does KennyPowers14 mean you're 14 years old? That's about the age you're acting. Rankin's family is none of your business and slander walks a very thin line. If you have children, which I hope you don't as your level of stupidity should not be passed down, I'm sure you would appreciate privacy into your family's business.

I don't think you would have this negativity towards a school's success if there wasn't some bit of jealousy involved.

    :roflol:

  8. Any predictions on 4-AA

This is the Alcoa girls' year. The senior girls faced a great deal when they were Freshmen, several serving as starters. Combine their experience with the talent of the juniors, sophomores and a couple of sharp shooting freshmen, it's sure to be a good year for the Lady T's. Of course, this will be no cake walk. There's not a lot of height but smart, tough post players. Alcoa excels with their outside shooting and speed. District 4 is strong...lots of talented players and the season is just getting started. Here's to the 2011-12 season!!

  9. What a game! I think it will take several days to get my voice back. Congrats to CAK. No way will you lose the rest of the way. I look forward to seeing the gold ball come back to our district...makes a huge statement to the competition and talent that reigns our district. I said after last year's CAK vs. Alcoa playoff game that that 14-3 game was truly the state championship game and I believe I witnessed it last night, as well.

Tough loss for our boys tonight. There was a lot of hard hitting and, I'm sure, a lot of sore men today. Unless you have won 7 straight championships, one will never know the pressure these boys feel each year. They have faced and heard all season, "What's happened to Alcoa?" Nothing. We are still a great team, with great athletes! Our competition also works hard each year to get better and they have.

Hats off to CAK, but hats off to the Alcoa Tornadoes, as well. You've held together and worked hard to make your community proud. Mission accomplished!

Good luck next week. Sure hope you take AE down!

  10. I'm not sure what some of the other Polk fans are smoking, but I can assure you, most of us were at the CAK game last year and are well aware that they can be physical as well. I can't remember what receiver it was, but he took a beating, he went out two or three times, but came right back in and kept making plays. I was real impressed with their ability to take what we gave them and kept coming right at us.

And as far as Alcoa goes, good grief people, they lost to Maryville and Greeneville (defending state champs from last year - and probably this year as well) the other two losses were to CAK (one of the best teams in 3A) and Austin East - who will also be in the second round of playoffs. Yeah, they may not have the record that they have had in the past, but they can play with anyone in the state - ask Maryville.

Sorry for the rant, but it's very frustrating when people get on here and give no respect to other teams. Back when I played you kept your mouth shut and let your helmet and pads do the talking. As for the game, I agree with some of the other posters, for Polk to win they will have to play mistake free and keep the ball away from the potent CAK offense. They will have to create a few turnovers and control the clock. I'm not sure that they can do it, but that is why you play the game. Regardless of the results, I hope both teams come out of this game injury free.

Thank you for recognizing this. I think people forget that Alcoa plays competition they don't have to but choose to in order to get better! We could have a better record but our boys want and need to step it up a notch during regular season to prepare for playoffs. Good Luck to both teams. Having battled many injuries this year, I hope you have an injury free game.

  11. Ok..the general consensus among Coacht is you all have the weakest schedule or close to it.

    Sullivan East W 37-13 (48-6)

    Elizabethton W 41-20

    Johnson County W 47-15 (45-6)

    Happy Valley W 49-20 (41-0)

    Unicoi County W 40-6 (52-0)

() = EHS final against same team

I took out the VA teams since not a lot is known about them and narrowed it down to common foes and conference.

Among those same 4 teams, EHS allowed only 12 pts. You guys allowed 74pts in 5 games. Elizabethton has only allowed 118 pts in 10 games with South(5A), Science Hill(6A), Daniel Boone(5A) on the schedule. This includes your teams 41 pts you put on us. If we take out the EHS/North game that makes 54pts u allowed in 4 games against while we only allowed 77pts in 10 games

You talk about how you guys dont play anyone smaller..that is true but size means nothing. Volunteer is the weakest 5A team next to Central. East is a 4A reject who has never had a solid team. JC, HV, UC, are all weak teams so beating them is nothing special. Our conference is always gonna be North vs EHS unless HV steps it up. You use the same argument as happy valley about scheduling. They brag about beating Hampton and Unaka..wow!!!! You guys are 10-0 YES. That IS a great accomplishment don't get me wrong, but to be faced with the numbers you'd about have to be ignorant to think North will cream EHS on any given day. And yes..mock it all you want but the game would have been vastly different if we had all our guys. Which if you notice the other games in which we DID have all of our team look at how lopsided the games were. Be thankful we were down bad that game because the stars aligned for you that night. If We win and AE beats us then no crying here..they DID beat Alcoa.

Yes, AE did beat Alcoa but it was a fluke and not to be considered as any kind of reference point.

  12. The Stacked I, pulling to the strong side was called twice. Both times the QB called his own number and tried to run a draw without the blockers.......The plays are very obvious if you watch the replays.............:bored: This year there has been so many designed plays from the sideline that have been mis-read or not executed properly I have lost count......<sigh> I wish we had stuck with Turby..........

You, me and many others. Turby knows the system and is a smart kid (don't misread this and think I'm saying Oggs is not smart-that's not what I'm saying). The other players have known him a long time and know what to expect with Landon. I think this plays a lot into the chemistry issue that several of us have commented on.

Is Peyton sick or hurt? Why have we not seen him?

  13. Call me an optimist but I'm not convinced this season is over. Will it be easy? Not by any means, but not impossible. I do think there is a lack of chemistry and maybe it does happen when someone steps in from outside the program.
