  1. I am the Head Coach of a Tennessee High School football team as well as a Christian and my stance is this: I, for one, am no where near being perfect. I am going to put my team in a position where they can win at the scoreboard at the end of the field. But more importantly, I am going to put them in a position to win at the scoreboard's at the end of their lives. We Pray before and after every practice and games(in which I lead). We have a Team Chaplin who is at almost every practice and game. We also have an FCA Character Coach Speaker every Thursday to bring the Word and open the Invitation to Christian Discipleship (So far we've had over 40 kids to give their life to Christ and more than 60 to rededicate their lives (in less than 3 years). I strongly feel that God puts his people in leadership positions to help carry out the Great Commission (Matthew 28). Like I said before, I'm not perfect. But I'd hate to be the person, who at the end of their life, have to explain to GOD why they didn't take advantage of the opportunities that he gave them to spread his Word to others. So as for me and my Family, we will serve the Lord!

  2. Keep praying... As an added bit of encouragement for our football team, our church provides a special Sunday School class specifically for our football team members and has inspirational speakers from the football community come in as guest speakers each week during the entire season. One of their favorites was Inky Johnson, who spoke this season. This is a special bonding time for the players and helps them to be leaders on and off the field through their spiritual lives as well.

:thumb: That is a great idea. We do something like this in our leadership meetings. This is very good for the boys because it is one thing for them to see their parents and adults do it but to see their peers doing it is very motivational.

  3. Same at DB. Just remember, it only takes one person to file a complaint, but they will have to find 12 jurors in the County that agree with them to get a verdict. I dont think that will happen in East Tennessee....Pray on boys!

Very true! In Soddy Daisy last year, one single person complained about the praying over the intercom at the start of the game and after that it was ban. But it backfired on that person because the students came together and had their prayer on the field before the game and welcomed anyone else to join them. It was very uplifting to see almost everyone in the stands from both sides empty out onto the field.

  4. This is one of the prime reasons I have so much respect for teachers and coaches. Over the years, coaches and teachers have been put under more and more limitations. It seems as though the freedom of speech and freedom of religion doesn't apply if you are praying to God. From what I read this was not organized by the coaches themselves but by the students; therefore, they did follow the separatioin of church and state. Pray on coaches....pray on!

  5. seen both team play this year. WV hosting Hixson and CHS hosting the owls. after watching both games form a coaching perspective and basically scouting both teams...

Cleveland is most definately a team chemistry and personel problem. I agree completely that the coaching staff can only give the kids the tools that they need to win and its the kids' job to put them to use but the penalties is a coaching discipline issue. One of CHS DB's returned an INT for a td agaist the owls and his fellow team mate got a flag for unnecassary roughness and was proud of it. THAT IS A COACHING ISSUE and classless.

Valley's issue is most definatey coaching. They have more athletes that CHS. Several get on here and say that its not coach lockerby that if the athletes were there they would win at least one game. THis should hold true most of the time but when the coaching staff puts kids into terrible positions it is setting them up for failure. For instance...hixson has not thrown the ball all night and WV is in a 4-3 with both safeties deep in coverage. Thats unacceptable. Plus WV ran the exact same 6 plays (12 for both sides) the entire night. They made no adjustments at halftime and they tried to throw the ball on a boot without pulling any guards or tackles for that matter. It was a suicide mission.

So with that being said...even tho WV has more athletes adn CHS needs some serious discipline, I think CHS will pull it out thru intimidation and the fact that WV's dbs could cover a middle scholl receiver and WV can NOT tackle at all!

    CHS-30

    WV-24

"One of CHS DB's returned an INT for a td agaist the owls and his fellow team mate got a flag for unnecassary roughness and was proud of it. THAT IS A COACHING ISSUE and classless."

Please explain how this is a coaching issue??

  6. Slaughter can't afford to lose this game. Cleveland coaches who lose to WV(Brown and Wilson)aren't around the next season.

The TEAM as a whole can't afford another loss. I read another one of your post that says a coach can only be as good as the players on the field. A coaching staff can only prepare their players for games they can not go out and do it for them. We have a lot of talented players but we have not been very good as a team this year: i.e. dropped passes, not blocking, interceptions, fumbles, penalties. Any and everything that could go wrong has and it is at the fault of the whole team, not just the kids and not just the coaches. Hopefully our coaches and boys can get it together and salvage something out of this year. Go Raiders!

  7. preseason hype? Nah, i said we would start the year 0-2, the Ootlewah loss did surprise me, but we have no running game what so ever, our 0-line can't block anything, our D-line looks like linebackers, we can't stop the run, we can't score, our WR are young, coaching is pretty bad, and then we have the whole Versus Network cirus going on. Slaughter needs to ditch the playbook and the 3-4 defense, or Cleveland will be ditching him.

The Versus Network circus has been gone since the Alcoa game. They will be back for the McMinn and Bradley games.

  8. From an outsider looking in, I watched Cleveland against Alcoa and yes they lost but Alcoa tricks them once, returns a punt, and gets away with a blatant holding on a huge play that set up the 3rd touchdown. I say that to say this, Cleveland has great athletes all over the field however they don't have a lot of discipline. I have not seen the Owls so I can't give an opinion there. just my 2 cents.

This has been the story for both of our losses. Hopefully our boys can get it together tomorrow.

  9. Omg,is this food network or football thread? Owls will dominate the raiders.Ooltewah has scored 85 pts..opp.haved scored 13.Raiders cant score and they cant stop anybody.Truth hurts.Cleveland might have a qb that throw a football in practice, but couldnt do it in the jamboree or first 2 games.Owls score at will and defense stops everybody.

    owls 21-0 maybe 31-7

Might happen, might not....but did you really just put "omg"?! :roflol:

  10. Thanks looking forward to the game. Should be a fun one for both teams. Last question, anything special in the concession stand? I like to support the band programs.

Dont know if it will be the same as last year but normally there is all the normal consession food plus chic-fil-a and smoothie king....but dont quote me on that. :D

  11. I would, but I don't know much about us, I'm just as clueless as you. As far as players to watch, #1 D.J. Jones, #8 Chad Voytik, #44 Jesse Jones, #45 Henry McClendon and you will have to ask someone else for more.

We have a talented group of guys. All of the above is pretty spot on. I will add #10 - Stricklin to the list as well. The past 2 games we have showed alot of promise aside from the 1st half of the Knox Cathlic game. As long as we can have a good week of practice and come out with alot of intensity, then we are a hard group to deal with. Both sides of the ball are strong but I will say that our receivers do need to improve.

  12. I just started it...try reading comprehension.

Nothing to be concerned about since I am not the one going to receive that BEAT DOWN this Saturday afternoon. Alcoa by a landslide. Band members will be playing in the middle of the 4th.

Actually you asked a question...maybe the lack comprehension is on you. This is not as bad of a situation as everyone thinks. If we lose to Alcoa, so what....we are expected to lose right? and If we win, we have taken down a giant.
