  1. I truly hope it's a close game. Somehow I feel like either

    1. The Greenback line will take over and dominate the game.

    OR

    2. Dresser Winn will make play and pass/rush for 9283726 yards.

My guess would be on #2, but who knows.

BTW, I'm wondering why no one has talked about Winn's rushing ability. Based on his Hudl highlighrs, I'm just as impressed with the kid's ability to keep the secondary honest. Everyone seems to be so caught up in that golden arm that they forget about his legs!

I predicted Dresden to have about the same success as last year, and I was forced to admit I couldn't have been more wrong. One of my best friends is a sports writer and statistician. Winn averages more yards per carry than anybody in the state (15 ypc). I kid you not, he was averaging 23 ypc and throwing at 83% with 1 INT going into week 8. When Dresden faced the murderers row and big region three in Trenton, UC and Humboldt, just in that stretch, he was sacked a cartoonish amount of times (which hurt his ypc average). That's where Greenback will have an advantage, but their o line has got better based off what I got to see last Friday. Drop everybody back into zone coverage, and Dresden will proudly run the ball with Winn and Yates. Yates was averaging 13 YPC and had 1,296 rushing yards in the regular season, so, yeah, good luck with all that. I've watched Dresden more this year than I ever have, and they're seriously one of the best teams from this area ever. Greenback is one of the strongest contenders from the East in years. This game will be an absolute dog fight.

  2.

Oh, I'll go there. He averaged less yards per game than the other finalists, and he got the ball more. I can remember you blowing this out of proportion when they were announced last year. He got beat on paper by the other nominees and didn't get his team far. In 1A football, one player can do a lot. Nobody besides you thought he should've been a finalist, nobody. No offense, but did he even get to play college ball? Warbritton's case is completely different. There's a false equivalency here. The Wilkes kid just got beat, simple. A finalist should be able to beat teams like South Fulton and Halls and lead their teams to at least a playoff appearance in 1A. Heck, both Warbrittons would do that. I don't have a dog in this fight, but you set yourself up for that one. He didn't "deserve" to be a finalist anyway you slice or dice it. I got to see the kid play. I'm just an unbiased spectator that's telling you the truth. You couldn't have gave that kid a finalist spot based on the voting criteria. Anyway you slice or dice it, he lost. I know you're a fan of LC, but try to embrace the truth here. Nobody besides LC fans campaigned for him on here (including me). I got to watch him twice in 15', once against a good team and against a team with a losing record in 1A. There's kids outside of Tiptonville. You say 215 yards a game like that's so conclusive no one else has a shot. You also have to take into account a lot of nominees play in several one half games. Warbritton and many others have that trumped. I watched Dresser Winn have over 400 (300 passing and 100 rushing) total yards of offense in his first game ever his freshman year on a Thursday in week 0 against Martin Westview. Westview lost on a last minute play in the quarterfinals in 3A that year. You have to take a lot of things into account, but I can understand people from Lake County with a dog in the fight being passionate.

I can go back and find a l,ot of posters that thought he should win if you want me to go back and paste them. And he had several offers but didn't have the grades .And yes I believe he is playing somewhere but is red shirting .Had he been on a team with a 10-0 record, would have made a difference .Another difference .He had to play againgt Dresden while Winn played against Lake Co's defens e.He should have had 700 yards alone against themL ake Co.1968 would have his yardage per carry .Anyway .I thought Winn would have won this year but Congrats to Rice on the award

Huh? Do you realize academics are part of the voting criteria? On that alone and his numbers on the field, you should just be thankful he was a semi-finalist. We'll just have to agree to disagree, but you don't have to find anything and go through the trouble. I have a memory. Your were a lone crusader despite maybe some fellow Falcons, but nobody in their right mind thought he should win based on meritorious value. I didn't watch the LC and Dresden game in person. I got to check out UC more than anybody last year, but you're using an illogical argument. One player gets to play a half, the other plays the entire game. That's also just one game. I have no idea what that has to do with 1968. If you take a kid like Ricky Henry from UC a few years back and put him on LC, he beats Halls and South Fulton, end of story. There's no numbers or good arguments to help you position here. I understand, though. You're just a faithful fan that's in favor of LC. There's nothing wrong with that.

  3. Lets dont go there.Stephonski Wilkes averaged about 210 yards a game and didn't win.And teams knew he was going to get the ball.

  4. Congrats to everyone nominated. It is a shame that Dresser Winn will not win this. I am in no way a Dresden fan or supporter, but the kid is on another level than other high school kids. I know it happens, especially in the West, but this award has no credibility.

I just don't understand their inconsistency. Warbritton went off that year, and the only argument they could've had is that he didn't have as many yards per attempt as the other kid (that's just my guess). He did have gigantic holes every play, but surely that wasn't a part of the voting. I personally think Diebold and the Pruett kid were overlooked, just from what I saw that year. Now this Dresden kid who won it last year has more passing TDs than incompletions, like what? I understand he had limited playing time, but c'mon. He had a lot fewer attempts than everyone last year, but surpassed the next closest guy by 700 yards, at least that's what the papers said. This year (according to the stat charts), pretty much everyone touched the ball twice as much as he did with rushing and passing, so they knew the circumstances and what they were doing. It's a shame.

Come to think of it, did Terrence Bell or Boo Weathers from Huntingdon ever win the award? I can't remember. I remember watching them during the 2001-2003 run. They were impressive.

  5. Lol ok, so you must have prayed for every single player that got injuried in high school football this year? Good for you. I respect the things you've done and what you stand for but if my posts rub you the wrong way that's on you l.

I seriously pray every time I hear of an injured player anywhere on this website, but you were just jumping up and down, weren't you? You fail to realize these kids are more than football players. You are as disrespectful as they come!

  6. Never have I once bashed Winn. I just believe someone else is better. I'm sorry you can't comprehend that. As far as disrespecting a military vet, this is a messsge board. I'm sorry if I disagreed with someone who served our great country but will say what I want and feel on these message boards.

That would be me, ill-mannered sir! Yup, this guy even threatened me at one point and edited his point soon after. He also was extremely happy and posted trash talk when the Dresden QB got hurt and when called out said,"Sorry, I didn't post "praying for your QB" or anything." That right there shows you he wasn't go to show any class. You're something else, Jtown. I'm still hoping I meet you someday.

  7. They'll probably give it to him this year. It seems they really try to avoid giving it to kids for consecutive seasons. I understand you're a big time WC guy, but the stats weren't even close last year. Rice had way more attempts (especially in rushing) in all categories and got beat by 400 plus yards in passing, 6 passing TDs, completion percentage by 13%, 100 plus yards in rushing, a few rushing TDs, etc. That's also taking into consideration Dresden has a way harder strength of schedule. This year Winn only played 8 regular season games (missed the two worst teams on his schedule) and played just a tad in the second half the entire season, but still beat Rice by 17% in completion percentage, production per attempt in passing and rushing, rushing yards and had way fewer attempts in all categories again. Winn is averaging around 15 yards per carry on about 34 or so carries. It was 23 yards per carry, until he was sacked numerous times against Trenton, UC and Humboldt. Rice has 83 carries and is averaging 5 yard per carry. I don't know what the selection committee's rule is on this is, but it just seems to me they don't like not giving kids a chance to win over past winners. West TN has only had one back-to-back winner in history. It's not fair to compare them athletically. Winn has multiple division 1 football offers, SEC baseball offers and is easily one of the best basketball players in West TN and getting looks in basketball. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch him in. He does the craziest dunks. I'd like to know all the schools that are doing football and baseball deals with him. They're saying on Volquest UT is wanting him to play both, but Memphis is too and is a strong possibility for him. I know he visited both UT and Memphis back in the spring, and they let him try on the jersey and all that. Since you can only receive financial aid for one sport, we only know what schools have offered him for football only (your standard full ride, one sport scholarships). I know the kid from Greenback has a shot to steal a finalist spot and throwing at 60% in 1A football doesn't help Rice. I think at the very least Winn will be one of the finalists, but I doubt they let him get the award two years in a row. I think he would've won it as a Sophomore had he stayed in Dresden. You could've made a case for him his freshman year, despite the fact he also only played 8 regular season games that year. He was just shy of 1,600 yards and was throwing at 65%. That's also against Westview (who lost at the last second against Lewis County in the 3A quarterfinals; Lewis County was the state runner up in 3A to Alcoa), UC (1A state champs), Peabody (2A playoff team), Mckenzie and Huntingdon (1A playoff team). He also did great in Dresden's lone playoff game in the second round to Humboldt and had 300 plus passing yards against Westview, UC and Huntingdon. I can't find some of his rushing stats from that year, but I know he had over 100 yards against Westview on 8 carries.

Yeah, but the Winn kid is just so much bigger and athletic. He's a good half a second faster on his 40 at least and has so much more arm strength with that wingspan. Is the Rice kid really 6"2? There's no way. I watched the ceremony live stream last year, and Winn dwarfed him. I also think Winn is taller than 6"3. A guy I work with from Dresden said he's 6"3 and three quarters with his shoes off at these college visits, but he still looks every bit of 6"4-6"5 to me. Rice supposively weighs 5 more lbs than him, but looks 35 lbs heavier. That doesn't make sense. Most high school high school recruits aren't honest about their height, weight, 40 time, etc.

  8. I do have access to hudl. I don't have any desire to watch that beat down again. I don't have to. I was on the sidelines and the qb was in at the start of 4th. It doesn't matter that he was in. My point was defending the Dresden coach.

I've only been to three Dresden games and only once did he play in the second half. That was against UC. He didn't even play in the fourth quarter of that game. Why would he play against Lake County that late? There's no way. I don't have access to Hudl either, but I'll take his word over yours.

  9. My kid talked to Dresser and acted like nothing major is wrong with the knee. That is good for the Lions. I'd still rest him and a couple others against Greenfield. But it's much easier to be the computer coach than the guys actually on the sidelines. Personally, I've said since Dresser was a freshman that I didn't like him running like he does. He's to big a target and runs upright but then again he's done it for 3 years with no issues.

Right, but that kid is seriously bigger than a lot of linemen in 1A and is such a threat with his speed. My philosophy is that if you're not going to let your athletes open up in win or lose situations in fear of injury, you're in the wrong sport. But if he's cleared to play Friday, don't do run plays with him against the Yellowjackets lol. That's not warranted.

  10. He he..didn't take long for the misquoters/misusers of Bible & skewers of facts to come out. OneEyeWilly proved my point, when ALL the rest of relevant verses are taken into account as well, letting Scripture interpret Scripture instead of a private interpretation. When looking at rest of Bible one sees: Proud folk have no fear, they have no respect, can see everything wrong with others but nothing wrong with themselves (or team, family, church, etc), has negative mindset, speaks ill of others, refuses to take rebuke or correction or teaching/coaching, are jealous and envious & bitter, plus more. And thus they are the epitome of losers, though they may win games. Champions are the opposite and can improve & do improve even if they don't win games. More study, more work, more input, more coaching, more effort, more rebuke are such things champions desire so they can be faster, stronger, wiser, better, more helpful to team/others, while losers look for easy way, never listens nor learns because they don't need to in their own eyes, all of which has nothing to do with win/loss record, and everything to do with heart, mind, soul. ...And Gap, if you view stats of Dresden's sole trip to Cookeville, you'd of thought we had the points & they had the goose egg. Our stats outdid them in every area, by alot!, but it was another classic case of better team on field losing on scoreboard, which happens at times. A 40mph wind with higher gusts made for a crazy game which they benefited from & we didn't. Since then our team has learned from these mistakes (and others too & are still learning because we still making them! Ha) and has gotten better step by step. Now here we are. Still needing to improve in many areas but playing well enough to win, and win big. ... Summarizing both these diatribes against me: proud folk don't need to improve and will get bitter at other's success, and will lash out at the very thing they need to do, or person(s) who could help them, while humble folk applaud winners and learn lessons from losses (& victories) to try to improve. They seek input from friends & foes alike and can benefit from both. And the root determines the fruit, the proof is in the pudding, results speak for themselves. I can't make others see the truth, only share it. One's own heart status determines their ability to see, hear, learn, & properly respond to light of truth. And when a human opens mouth (or writes words) it reveals their own soul/ heart/ mind. So thanks for sharing, and revealing... Now all this applied to ME reveals a supportive & enfouraging fan & defender of his hometown's team, incurably hopeful even at worst of times wishing the best for his team & town (what an awful deplorable thing that is! Yuk!), yet a guy caring enough about all folk everywhere to try and teach various helpful truths which they could benefit from IF they have the proper soul for such things (for in essence, at my heart's core I am a teacher). If not, they define losers; if so, that's a winner. Records and scores are not the issue, but the inner person is. And isn't it something to notice how that when the student-athlete's (and most of teammates') heart is right, then good things happen. Not always, but most of time it does. And the good things happening to all the better teams (not just Dresden) happen for a reason(s), which I've tried to share. But none are so blind as those who refuse to see the light of truth. And I guess haters gonna hate no matter what is said or who says it. That's OK, the couch of history & Scripture shows even more truths on all these issues for any desiring to see. But nobody can reach the unteachable, not even the Lord Himself. Look what was done to Him in His day, and to His followers ever since. Yes, the couch I recline on has quite a history indeed. Praise the Lord, ..and GO LIONS! Ha. Sermonette #491 Over & out.

You weren't kidding when you referred to yourself as a motivational speaker, were you? Do you give pre-game speeches and such? Most top-level athletes are now using sport psychologists to gain a mental edge over their competition. Check these articles out; this is really fascinating stuff.
