Wow. White House goes down. Does this open the door for a Beech run to sectionals? Obviously Stratford and I’m sure MLK as well, are better than most expected. Who wins this region now? Who’s runner up? And do either get by the Central/Fairview combo?

IMO... there was a huge difference between WH v Beech and WH v Stratford. WH was dominant against Beech but could not finish. That was not the case vs Stratford. Stratford was the dominant squad.

My prediction is Beech over MLK, Stratford over Beech. Central and Stratford to State easily I believe

Is it true?  Did the Spartans upset Whitehouse?  I checked and WH was up 2-1 in the  second half then a 3-2 Stratford final was posted.

The Spartans win 3-2 in 100 minutes.  White House goes a man down up 2-1 on a second yellow card. Stratford gets the equalizer then scores in the first OT  to seal the win.  Bunch of disappointment up on the ridge tonight.  Gotta give it up to Stratford they were quick and fast and out played the Blue Devils when it mattered most.

Rare is the team that is full strength at this point of the year.

Hope your center back is better now.  I think you all will make a deep run, even without him.

So true that.  Thanks...he’s back now.

Best of luck to you guys moving forward.

  4. Nope, Lost one of our starting center backs with about 15 mins left in the first half with a ruptured bursa on a slide tackle at end line...

I guess I was mistaken with my previous statement, Station Camp put two on us in the fist game back for our other CB after torn ACL early in the football season.

Well nothing like post season excitement to pick up the chatter.  Haven't heard from you lately though.  How do you think your boys will stack up against the mighty Spartans from east Nashville?  My oldest sister graduated from Stratford in the late 70's so I will pull for the orange and black.

The scouting report says they are fast on top with a solid, patient midfield. Haven’t seen them myself, but I will take our mids over any group I have seen in the last four years. Our backs are tough solid and disciplined. We have yet to give up a goal when at full strength this year. If we are focused and aggressive right from the rip... I like our chances.

Springfield and Beech game got interesting last night.

Oh yessir it did.  Bench and bleacher clearing "brawl"  and 911 gets called.  Could have been worse, though.  I will refrain from making too many comments. To summarize, very physical soccer led to dirty elbow led to a push led to a kick led to a scrum.  1-0 scoreboard 3-1 red cards hopefully the film will be reviewed and ALL of those who deserved reds will be served.

Shameful and disgraceful end to a very well played and evenly matched soccer game that could have gone either way.

  7. Should be a good one at the House tonight.  CPA brings in an 11-1-2 record to face a White House team having won 7 straight.  This will be last tune up for both teams prior to beginning their run at titles.

Ya'll come on out and buckle up. Some good soccer is on tap...

    So true.  So true!

We actually were talking about this yesterday.  That sectional match was always a "who can avoid White House"!

Glad we are continuing the competition.

The boys should make a great run.  Now your job is to avoid Page (well, and Greeneville)!

And we always felt better avoiding CPA and taking our chances with Page.  At least with the current set up all three of us can make it to state if we take care of our business.  This is my last year as my youngest is a senior.  I intend to cherish every minute of it, but I do take solace in the fact that losing to CPA will not be the last HS memory.  :)

Lots of soccer between now and then, but I feel the odds are pretty good in AA that WH, Page, and Greeneville make state runs, and hopefully the gods of the random draw will allow none of them to meet in the quarters.

  9. So who are the teams to beat with all the new alignments?

In AA, White House lost one starter and return 10 starters, have 9 senior starters, and four 4-year senior starters. Have a couple of lingering injuries but they should be back in about 3-4 weeks.  I like the way we look and the focus these young men have through 2 scrimmages.  Not to wish the season away, but I sure am looking forward to senior night match with CPA, finally a CPA/WH match without season over consequences.

    How is everyone else looking...

But the area you get your players from shouldn't matter. Glad you aren't making the decisions!

Queue up the magnet/open enrollment debate...lets get rid of them too....

I am also glad.  There would be 3 size based divisions with multipliers for scholarship, magnet, and open enrollment schools and let the chips fall where they may.  No one would ever be able to sleep from the incessant whine of parents, boosters, and coaches of this entitlement driven society we have created for ourselves.

The asterisk comment is absurd. TSSAA clearly saw an issue and worked diligently to fix it. Under your current logic, if you have to beat the best to be the best, then we should throw out classifications altogether and just have one state champion.

Now that truly is absurd!  The only 2 problems the TSSAA saw were 1) Missed opportunity for more revenue, and 2) whining constituents.

    Number one is self explanatory...

Number two:  They clearly got tired of listening to all the whiners complaining that their kids didn't have a chance because of all the big bad recruiting private schools.  So instead of encouraging those schools/areas to do things to strengthen their programs (see White House and Greeneville), they said screw it lets just add classifications.  And by all means, we have to separate those private schools.

I truly agree with breaking out the Class A teams from the AA. That was necessary and long overdue. The small schools from rural and/or economically disadvantaged areas have never nor would have ever been able to compete.  I think it is awesome for the growth of the sport to have  Division 1 Class A now. With that exception, there really wasn't anything wrong with how it was set up.

But no not good enough..."you gotta get rid of the small privates, its not fair"...

As Greeneville most definitely proved, the privates are beatable if you put in the work.  And by work, I mean parents contributing time and money to build the good rec programs, facilities, etc required to build those programs up, not the kids working/trying hard.  The kids are going to do that regardless.

Next thing up we need to get those magnets and open enrollment schools out of the public divisions as well.  Let's just go to three divisions with 3 classes in each...NO...better yet let's just invite everybody to Murfreesboro for a brand new  "Life Champion Medalion" ceremony and play friendlies not keep score.

But hey, it works to my school's benefit. White House has a pretty easy path to State from now until some other schools step up the effort. If this had been the set-up White House would be sitting on at least 6 (probably 10 or 12) titles now between the boys and girls and I am sure there would be a movement to get us out somehow.

We will have to agree to disagree I suppose.  But my personal opinion is that it is a watered down title now in I-AA.

No asterisk next to Greeneville's ladies - they competed against the privates and came out on top the past 2 years. Same with their mens team last year.

The kids play against whom ever they are pitted against. Please don't  diminish their hard work and accomplishments.

I am not diminishing anything the kids do, they can only play those who are lined up against them. My point was that it is no longer the accomplishment that it once was. All credit to Greeneville, they won it when they had to beat the best.  They don’t have to anymore.

An asterisk because now it’s almost a participation trophy.  With you guys and CAK and the rest gone, it’s not the accomplishment that it once was.  So, asterisk in my book anyway.

You never heard me complaining about the privates...frankly I hate that y’all are gone.

  15. Yes I agree about Page, Greeneville, and WH. That was the gist of my comment. Greeneville sure seems like a machine right now. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone can step up.  Whatever happens, it won’t change the asterisk that goes beside the name of every AA champion from here on out.

Sorry I missed you guys earlier in the season, I was out of town on business. Rumor has it we will finally get a “friendly” boys match this year too.  I am looking forward to it.

    Best of luck this week!

  16. I would certainly like to face you all NEXT week and not Saturday (though HF has some dangerous players, as well).

Coach Clapp (Page) has different plans, however.

You coming to the match tonight?

Give me a heads up if you are.

Yeah it would not surprise me if any two of the four make it to next week.

Unfortunately I cannot attend tonight. My wife has other plans for me that, even more unfortunately, involves mulch....

  17. Wow.  Sounds a lot closer than the 5-2 score indicated!

Ehhh...Closer than 5-2 yes... 3-1 was about right though

It seemed like WH kinda let off the gas and got lazy after they cut them up for the first 20. But hey HF never gave up. They played hard all 80 minutes.  It just wasn't their night.  White House definitely erased the horrendous game they played on Monday night against MLK. Hopefully that performance doesn't have a repeat showing this season.

G, you guys need to win so we can keep the hopes alive for that Friday showdown a week from now.  Good luck tonight.

  18. WH 5-2 over Hume Fogg

WH comes out and jumps all over HF and scores at 4', 12' (on one of the prettiest set pieces you will ever see) and has a golden opportunity to go up 3 at about 20' but failed to convert. HF composed themselves and netted a goal at about 28' and finished the half with some momentum. WH led 2-1 at the half.

Second half started much like the 1st half ended and HF got the equalizer at about 45' on a goal off a free kick muffed by the keeper. That seemed to reignite the WH side and at about 57' WH took a foul in the box and converted for a 3-2 lead. HF then began to press forward and WH punished them on counters until HF gave up an unfortunate own goal at 72'. WH got one more in the final minute to bring it to the final tally of 5-2.

    BDP moves on!
