  9. Anotherref...of course Trent didn't question you..He was raised not to question authority.. by me, his mother!! And my son doesn't make excuses..thats the reason he smiled and said thank you. Trent was sure the pin was good and no out of bounds called because he thought Goldsteins feet were in bounds. The question was made by me, and after reviewing the video in the car on the way home Trent questioned it also so I asked someone to review it and thats what they posted. Every referee doesn't call things the same..that was evident this past weekend. I can respect that too. However, this was a region championship that should have been watched really closely, regardless of the fast and furious activity.

The reason for this post is stated above...were they out of bounds? Thats the question..not who won or lost.

If I may add to this, questioning the ref generally leads to bigger problems---resenment toward the wrestler, resentment toward the coach, deduction of team points or being thrown out all together. Furthermore, it has been made perfectly clear by ALL of the refs that what they say goes, no matter if they are right or wrong. We had the same problem over the weekend at the same Region 1 tournament. Not the same ref, but the same sort of situation. Sadly, we saw that ref make terrible calls throughout both days. I will say that at our regualr duel tournaments, that it is very frustrating to see bad officiating, but when it comes to Regionals and State, it is downright heartbreaking. I say, if you can't do the job you are paid to do to the best of your ability, then don't take the job!

  10. So with the team tournament over, let's get to the indidual tournament.

Here are my finals predictions without seeing all the teams in person:

120 - Armstrong (Sullivan South) vs. Sutherland (the Hill)

126 - Schurlknight (the Hill) vs. Gobble (Sullivan South)

132 - Knowles (the Hill) vs. Carlson (Greeneville)

138 - Schurlknight (the Hill) vs. Williams (Seymour)

145 - Goldstein (the Hill) vs. McReynolds (Sullivan South)

152 - Perry (Sullivan East) vs. Vaughn (the Hill)

160 - Snyder (the Hill) vs. Rogers (Crockett)

170 - Brimer (Morristown West) vs. Stout (Dobyns Bennett) or Churchman (Jeff Co.)

182 - Begley (Dobyns Bennett) vs. Matthews (Morristown West)

195 - Shropshire (Boone) vs. Lowery (the Hill)

220 - Williams (Elizabethton) vs. Hayes (the Hill)

285 - McQuality (Sullivan East) vs. Johnson (Jeff Co.)

    Champions prediction:

    106 - Boatman

There are several weights I'm not confident in, but should be a good show come Friday. Good luck to all.

182 Morristown West is Marcum. Matthews is 195.

  11. Guys this is a pray that I wrote for my wrestlers several years ago and gave it to them and their parents trying to help them to appreciate the referee's and the coaches both for there kids and the opposing coaches also. Do any of you have a favorite pray for wrestlers? I am interesting in prayers that either the wrestlers or coaching use.

    A Christian Wrestler’s Prayer

    Thy most gracious heavenly Father,

    Hallow be thy name,

Help me to use the moves that I have been taught

    At the most appropriate times.

Help me to listen to the knowledge and instructions

that my coaches give me before and during the match.

Help me to use my talents and skills to Your Honor and Glory

Help me to fight as hard at the end of the match as I do at the beginning

    No matter what the score!

Help me to always be thankful for the Referee keeping me safe,

Help me to accept his calls even if I don’t agree with all of them,

Help me to accept his authority over the match as

I accept the authority of Jesus Christ over my life

Help me to be Humble in Victory

    And Gracious in defeat.

I ask this in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

    Amen

    Coach Doug Newman

I always say the same words prior to each of my son's matches:

Dear God, please, keep him safe. Guide him to be smart, wrestle strong and if it is your will, a win.

  12. Though i would enjoy giving props to those TN guys that have the heart to expend the resources that alllow them to compete in the offseason and therefore become winter champions. But why does Tn bring the most watered down talent to these national fors? WhoL is this worthwein kid and why did he go to super 32? This is the quintessential problem with TN wrestling; all of the good kids choose not to attend great tournaments like this, which is their own loss. But why are there unqualified kids like this (one that hasn't even placed at the state tournament) representing our state. Surely TN can do better. Where are the studs at, even though Chatt Town was somewhat well represented at this event they should develop a better system to get these guys out! CBG if south Florida hasn't fried your brains with the sun or the noon margaritas give me an answer. Why do bottom caliber kids like this worthwein fellow even bother with these tournaments.

Bradley we don't rebuild, we reload!

These kinds of tournaments are expensiveand not everyone can afford to go to them. My son would have loved to have went, but when you factor in registration, gas, shelter and food it's just too much.

  13. Attention all business owners, managers, crafters and vendors: the Morristown West Takedown Wrestlers are asking for your help! 15. Yes...I'm not totally in the loop on all of the logistics but there will be up to 15 mats being used with younger kids going down to quarter mats.

The tournament will include all three styles. First period folkstyle, second freestyle and if needed the third will be Greco. It will be best two out of three.

  16. OK....no problem with that as long as it is approved by the referee. I must have gotten soap suds in my eye during the whole donkey washing thing and didn't comprehend what the original question was.

Arm sleeves, as described by megamom, are fine. Long sleeve shirts are not.

Now I have to get the extension cord out so I can blowdry the donkey...he's cold.

    Ha-ha! Thanks so much!
