  1. 78, Teter must be the real deal. One of the Brocks , and I am not sure which,, posted two weeks or more ago that she is the best player in Chattanooga this year. Looking at her stats, her kills were good but the setters had to dominate the game also. The match stats said to this poster that Bank controlled the match and did not let GPS get started, very unusual for a Paul Brock coached team who had huge credentials also. The inside of the arena must have had a lot of disbelief spread all over it.

I haven't seen her play in-person in about a year but I've heard she has improved. The Lawson girl has a strong vball background and much like her older sister has a very good all-around game. I felt from earlly on that this could be a great year for RB. Finnally, RB has a great coaching tradition and it appears Helton has stepped in and may be able to keep it going.

  2. THe problem I have with rating the coaches on a sport like volleyball is that 75% of you wouldn't know a good coach if you had one. Parents still don't understand why you rotate back on serve receive or why a right side, is a right side.

Only because volleyball isn't a main stream sport.

I disagree Mr. Brock that there are only 2 in the state. Maybe less then 10, but not 2.

    Good discussion though.

Cliff, you always have a good perspective. Speaking of which, have you gone to the site yet and rated y'alls HEAD coach??

  3. Stbulldog, I totally agree with you. GREAT RESPONSE!!!!!!

Oh, by the way, who is PHargis. PHargis spends alot of time posting. I wished that I had that much time on my hands, but, instead I have bills to pay and have to work.

Roger would know better than I but I believe PH's daughters and granddaughter's made a "ton of money" off of Vball and that's why he has the time to post!!

  4. LOL! If anyone could get a yellow card from the stands it won't be me but maybe BB317?

Heck, GLJ almost gave me a yellow card one time when I was calling lines!!

GLJ, in all seriousness and without having to name names, how about sharing some of your better "yellow card" stories??

  5. If I remember right, The big O and GPS must be loaded, Red Bank too. Chattanooga is a very quiet place right now which usually means they have other things to do, practice. You can bet they will be on this site.

Not as close to the "Big O" as in the recent past but they do have several returning players from last year but they did loose 5 seniors. Red Bank should be pretty solid as I remember. GPS has quite a bit coming back.

I'll check with Owaa coach on schedule, knowing she is probably still working on it.

  6. GLJ, I have been away from the site for awhile and was just catching up and saw this.............

All I can say is that I'm glad I got to meet you and thanks for everything you have done to promote Vball. Most of all thanks for many intersting conversations in person and on here. I appreciate everything you have done for me!

Good luck and take care in your future endeavors!

  7. Wondering when the all state selections come out. I heard late November or early December.

    Anyone

I believe last year it was a couple of days before Christmas? But I might be confused and it was right before Thanksgiving??

  8. Clifford 20, did the Munford coaches ask you for advice? If I were them, I would be totally offended by your comments. Someone might question your volleyball experience. What is your background - other than sitting on the bench and acting like you are a good coach or even know what you are talking about? Munford's coach could have taken your talent over the last 4 years and made it to state 4 out of 4 years.

Munford posters should just totally ignore Clifford 20 and, by the way, good luck next year.

Also, if you need some good competition next year, I hear that Page Middle is looking for an extra game. Also, I hear Culleoka thinks if they played you early in the year, it would help their team's confidence.

    WHY?? One can only wonder......................

  9. Here in Iowa the level of play in our section of the state is much lower than in TN.

I don't think you should try to "claim" to be in Iowa, just because you have a garden full of "corn" in your backyard. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

  10. This is a super impressive event...not only do you get to see rivals Lee University and Berry College go head to head but athletes from area high schools will showcase their volleyball talents prior to the main event. Walker Valley, Cleveland, Bradley Central and Ooltewah will mix it up and all proceeds go to the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation.

The entire article can be found here.

I wish we could do something similar in Middle Tennessee between Lipscomb and Belmont Universities.

I bumped into the Lee coaches yesterday at lunch and they said they are expecting a big crowd and I believe (don't hold me to it) admission is free. So get there early if you want to have a place to sit, it's expected to be standing room only! This will be a great event and is definitely for a worthy casue. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  11. stbulldog.........Spoke with our Coach. She told me that she will be looking to come to NASHVILLE to play in some TOURNAMENTS next year. Please forward this information onto the proper Tournament Director so that she can contact our COACH.

Also, Would like to stay in touch with you about CLUB VOLLEYBALL. Our Coach said that we could possibly be traveling to MID-TENN and East TENN for Club Volleyball this year. My E-mail is: bigdaddy9170@yahoo.com

It will provide invaluable "experience", just ask Greenbrier. I realize they don't have to travel as far but if you take on all comers, it will only help in the long run.

  12. Next year??? Well, we certainly have the talent to come back (2 juniors and 4 sophomores that like each other and love to play together!). But, you know how that goes... It takes more than talent to win a state championship. As I've said before, we had wonderful parents, players AND a coach that simply loves this game. All those 6am practices after a road game the night before. Heck, she even had the girls practicin' early on Fall break days off. Now, all that quasi-pain and inconvenience seems like a distant memory. Winning does that in sports. It cures almost all ills.

Thanks for the well-wishes, and good luck to you (hope your leg heals soon!) and your daughter!

5-Sport, I have to give you "kudo's" for not automatically claiming another state title next year, for as I said way back in late August, in my TN Volleyball Musical "Fans who seem to understand it's a long road to State, of the eventually to be crowned 2007 A-AA State Champs: All Greenbrier posters, plus Hopi. (Song: "We are the champions" by Queen)".

  13. I hope to return next season, but my physical and financial condition may prevent that. I will do my best to return however. Thanks for the memories.

First, happy "belated" birthday and second, all I can say is "you better come back"!! Do you know how much and how many depend on you? Take some time off and get rested up for next year. All of us are pulling for you! We sincerely mean that /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  14. You are all champions in my book. Thank you for a great senior year.

    -Sarah

You forgot to mention one other senior and that was "00", their libero. She is a great young lady that will go far both on the court and off the court. Good luck next year and in the future at Lee, we look forward to seeing you at some of the matches next year! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  15. You knew it was coming. My personal picks:

    AAA: Brentwood

    A/AA: Greenbrier

    Division II-AA: Father Ryan

Division II-A: Harding (not even close)

    Bring 'em!

GLJ, do I win the prize?? I believe I am the only one on here who picked them all correctly? Also, only missed one of the semis (that's what happens when you go with your heart). By the way, don't say I didn't pick Harding becasue I thought that was obvious enough!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  16. Way to Go Lady Bruins!!!

    State Championship #8

Seniors are Awesome in a great match with Ooltewah

    /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Since I didn't get to see any of the matches I really can't say but I am "guessing" this might have been the match of the tournament. By my calculations the points scored in the total match were exactly even going to game 5 which was was won by 2 points!

  17. I was just wondering how pool play was determined in the state tournament. It looks like the 3 best teams were in the same pool with Greenbrier, Anderson County, and Boyd-Buchanan being in that pool. After the way Greenbrier and Anderson County breezed by the teams in the other pool in the semifinals I think that Boyd was probably the 3rd best team at state seeing as they played Anderson County very close.

It's a blind draw done by TSSAA. The only exception is that teams from the same Region can not be in the same pool. That way if they both are good, they can advance to the semis (like Centennial / Bwood and AC/KC did this year) without possibly eliminating each other, before the semis.

  18. Ok, I'll bite. Predictions and very honestly, not seeing most of these teams play means I wouldn't place any bets on them:AAA - Bwood, Ooltewah and Cent, DB advance with Ooltewah losing to Bwood in the finals.A/AA - Greenbrier, AC and KC, Page advance with KC losing to GreenbrierD2 (and I don't know if it's AA or A but) - Father Ryan and GPS in the finals with GPS winning.

Just so I can jinx all of my picks tomorrow, so far I picked the correct final 4's and final 2 and picked them in their "Pools" correctly, too!
