  1. How can a head coach of a local HS have a showcase camp at his school; and not notify any of his players to come out? Please someone help me understand??

Maybe he doesn't feel like any of his players talents are worthy of being showcased. Remember... you asked. I have no idea what showcase or high school coach you are referring to.

  2. Congratulations Coach Myers on your team's big win on Thursday. The moment may have been 19 years in the making, but the moment did come and you and your 2012 team will will forever be known as the first baseball state championship team in school history. You are a great coach...and an even better man. Paint whatever the heck you want on your outfield wall and be proud of it!

  3. Looks like BGA is in the cat bird seat today. There is some excitement in the air on the BGA campus. There is a chance they will be painting 2012 State Champs on their left field wall right next to the 1949 Sub-regional District Co-champion Runner-up banner. Still think MUS might make it go to 2 games today.

Uncalled for shakin. As insightful as you are as a contributor to the DII AA boards, not sure why you felt it necessary to take a petty shot at BGA for what is painted on their wall.

  4. we'll see. they BARELY got by FR and had FR not pulled Kried who knows how that would have gone. I think any team can win it and BGA may finally get their "ring". based upon the CB and MUS scores (and the horrible call that went against JPII), the west teams are highly overrated. I think BGA might be the best team having seen all of them play. BA gave the last game away or they too may have made a run even with a team that was comprised of Jrs and Sophs. That team is 99% underclassmen (only 1 starting sr) so they will be tough to handle next yr. It will be interesting that's for sure

Did Kreig get pulled in the game or ejected? There is an unconfirmed rumor floating around that Kreig was ejected during his start against MUS. Does anyone care to confirm, deny, or detail the report? If it happened...was it justified? What did he do?

I'd like to hear about the call that went against JPII as well.

  5. Not sure the TSSAA reasoning behind DII-AA west with 4 teams getting 2 byes and DII-AA east with 8 teams get 2 byes also. (all teams eligible). Wouldn't it make better sense for the west to have 1 bye and eat have 3? Seems like MUS and CBHS normally have an easier road to the final 4 than the #3 or #4 teams in the east.

But then again we are talking about the TSSAA having to change something that they are incapable of. Oh well I look forward to the final 4 games at Wilson-Central HS, such a great place for Tennessee High School Championship baseball. Minimum seating, school in session, banners hanging down foul line fences where fans cannot stand and watch the game. Why is it so tough for the TSSAA to find a better venue? It means they have to go out and find it. Vandy, MTSU, Lipscomb, Belmont, Sounds, heck just go back to BGA.

shakin...your post couldn't be any more spot on! CBHS and MUS are both great programs, as are the other two schools in the west. But when the east reduced to just Baylor and McCallie forcing the current alignment of the middle/east region, then I agree with you that the 3rd bye should have come with it.

As far as the venue is concerned, what happened to MTSU being the host sight? I know the facility and field went through some renevations a couple years ago, but those all appear to be complete. Why not Resse Smith Field? Can anyone provide some insight as to why Wilson Central instead of MTSU?

  6. I have yet to understand how some of these kids parents let them throw 120 pitches on a Thursday comeback on a Saturday for 100 and do it again on a Tuesday for 100+. Are these coaches and parents stupid, or do they not care about the young mans possible future? Any feedback from anyone?

The only feedback I can give you based on what you wrote is that the said kids parents and coaches are stupid if the scenario you described is accurate and the young man has an opportunity to continue his career past this season. While I wouldn't intentionally want to hurt my kid, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with this apparent abuse if in fact it was the last week or two of my son's career because he was a graduating senior and finished with his competitive baseball career upon completion of the season. This would be strictly for getting in or competing in the playoffs, and what you have proposed doesn't seem to be the case.

I would add that I haven't seen this at the high school level over the last 8 years. Most teams are playing three games a week that occure in the 5 day school week leading up to the weekend. The limit on the number of games that teams can play would seem to minimize this type of abuse from occurring unless you are telling me that the same kid is pitching all three district/region games during a week of competition. Again, if this is the case, I have not seen it or heard it happening in high school, at least not in Middle TN from programs that are thriving and competitive.

  7. Getting back to baseball, is BGA still alive in the DIIAA division? Its hard to follow how they are doing when the post gets a little off tangent about the bush league antics of their players.

Since it looks like there are only 16 teams in this division according to the TSSAA website, how many advance to the "state" tournament?

There is actually only 12 teams in DIIAA baseball...8 in the Middle/East Region and 4 in the West Region. All 12 teams qualify for the post season, although this year, Briarcrest is not eligible for the post season because they are in the final year of a penalty imposed on them by TSSAA for a bench clearing fight that they participated in a couple of seasons ago.

Thus, this is what we know today. Once Christian Brothers and MUS finish their regular season head to head competition this week, the winner of the series will emerge as the #1 seed out of the west with the other the #2 seed. Both teams will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. This leaves St. Benedict as the #3 seed out of the west.

Baylor defeated BGA in their best of three series last weekend at BGA. With the series win came the #1 seed out of the middle/east with BGA finishing as the #2 seed. Both of these schools will also receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The remaining teams in the middle/east finished in the following order:

    #3 JP II

    #4 Father Ryan

    #5 Brentwood Academy

    #6 Ensworth

    #7 MBA

    #8 McCallie

JP II gets a first round bye because of the inelegibility of Briarcrest. Father Ryan will host McCallie, Brentwood Academy will host Ensworth, and St. Benedict will host MBA at the end of the week.

JP II will then play the #2 seed out of the west, the winner of the Ryan/McCallie series will play the winner of the #1 seed out of the west, BA/Ensworth winner will play at Baylor, and the winner of the St. Benedict/MBA series will play at BGA.

The four winning teams from round two will head to the state tournament the week of May 22-25 and particiapte in a double elimination format to determine the state champion.

In my opinion, very little seperates the top of the middle/east region from the bottom. In fact, McCallie was able to win the best of three series from Baylor a couple weeks ago. I can't speak of the west but I am sure it is competitive as well.

It should be a fun couple weeks of baseball in DIIAA.

  8. Read the last sentence about allowing players to settle things on the field. The players should know how to police the game without any help from a coach.

I read each sentence and have complete comprehension of what you were saying. I got your point and am not arguing with it. But I also think you got my point. If not, let's just say...like beauty...bush is often times in the eye of the beholder.

  9. A few years ago I was watching a game and BGA was doing this same thing in the region tournament prior to the first pitch being thrown. One parent on the opposing team told the pitcher to nail three specific players (BGA's best players) until the Bush League BS stoped. After a few words were exchanged between the parent and CBM, with the 3rd base umpire watching, CBM decided it was best to tell his kids to stop the antics. The parent and the umpire even had a laugh when the parent ask the umpire how they would stop the Bush League behavior if it happened in professional baseball or if someone was doing it to one of the Hit after Hit summer league teams. The bottom line is that CBM does not want a BGA player to take a 90+ fastball in the back due to his childish Bush League behavior. If the opposing coaches would tell their players to settle things on the field and they would not be punished if a few 90+ fastballs get a little high and inside the problem would go away.

It's also bush league when a first base coach throws his arms out and yells safe right as an umpire is about to make a call on a close play at firstbase. You don't see that done in professional baseball either... or do you CCG?

  10. Yes they do still play the drums and act like a bunch of softball girls. At one point they were doing a choreographed cheer in the dugout. I think the head coach that allows these bush league activities encourages such bad sportsmanship. Today after getting beat by Baylor for the second game in a row, which allowed Baylor to win the region, a couple of the BGA dad's started yelling at Baylor's Coach Etters wife for cheering for her team and telling her to shut up. She is probably in her 70's and then these brave dads threatened another one of Baylor player's grandfather. After things calmed down, the BGA's head coaches’ wife came and stood in the middle of the Baylor parents who were standing down the 3rd base line.

If I was a BGA alumni or BGA parent, this is not how I would want my school to be represented.

Why are BGA's dugout antics considered bush while the antics of the Baylor coach's wife not? Excessive noise designed to irritate the opponent to the point of distraction is how I would describe both. I am not a fan of the noise that comes out of the BGA dugout, nor am I a fan of the annoying chatter that comes from the mouth of Mrs. Etter. She knows exactly what she is doing and she is relentless with noise that is equally annoying to the opposing team as the BGA banging is.

To get on here and post only part of the story to make it look like BGA has a group of parents that pick on little old ladies is totally inaccurate. Etter does cheer for her team, but make no mistake, she also slips in negative things about the opposing hitters and pitchers, and on Saturday was perched 15 feet directly behind home plate calling out the location of the pitch to the Baylor hitters based on where the BGA catcher set up.

Smacks of the pot calling the kettle black to me.

  11. Really, I'm sure FU was instrumental in the hiring at UT just to get the kid. Wow, never thought to give them that much clout. Surely, there's more up your sleeve.

You are an idiot!I would suggest that you have something up your sleeve but after reading your posts in several threads I suspect most of your shirts don't have sleeves.

  12. If I moved into Knox County and my choice of baseball programs were Bearden, West, Karns, Catholic, Lenoir City, etc, etc, there would be no question I would have chosen Farragut. Cant blame Serrano for that. Not to mention his future shortstop and center fielder are playing at Farragut right now. I would have done the same thing.

You asked what players Farragut pulled in. My reply was Serrano's kid. I didn't criticize his decision to put his kid at Farragut or take a shot at the school. I simply answered your question. If I lived in Knox County and could "choose" where my kid went to school and played baseball, I would probably choose Farragut as well.

  13. Most scouts both professional and college are looking for velocity but South Carolina won the national championship with a kid throwing 82-83. Why not just find kids that know how to get outs against the very best competition.

    Amen!

  14. It is unfortunate that Jimmy's summer ball coaches had to get involved to back him up on this post. I do wish him luck at Wake Forest, as well as everyone else. I just think that Jimmy will however need more than luck. He might need a prayer. Several. I do not see him doing well at the Division I level. He cannot hit anything off-speed and unlike in high school, people in college pick up on that. Jimmy's defense is brutal, thats not DI shortstop material. Its just hard to imagine him being so highly recruited.

What is unfortunate is that you continue to bash the Redovian kid when you really know nothing about him. Next thing you are going to tell us is that he steals kid’s lunch money too.

In an attempt to get things back on topic, I believe I am correct in saying that Dathan Prewett (Spring Hill), Garrett Ring (Mt. Pleasant) and Heath Slatton (Columbia) have all signed with MTSU, Kyle Smith (Mt. Juliet) with Vanderbilt, Bryan Smith (Eagleville) with Trevecca and Austin Sistrunk(Franklin) with Lipscomb University.

For the record, I have personally seen all of these kids play multiple times over the last 5-10 years and I think they will all be very successful at the D1 level…Redovian included.

  15. apparently Jimmy Redovian, shortstop out of BGA, signed with Wake Forest. I am not sure if there is any truth to this because I have seen him play one time and that is all I needed to see. He is one of the worst baseball players I have seen. He has a terrible attitude as a baseball player and is not at all a good shortstop. Surely someone had to have known somebody high up on the board at Wake. Im sorry if you think Im bashing the kid, but I am only being honest.

It is obvious that your intent IS to bash the kid so why close your post with a weak apology? I have watched the Redovian kid play for years, and while his "aggressive, in your face" style of play can rub some the wrong way, it doesn't negate the fact that he is a very good baseball player. To label him the worst player you have ever seen smacks of your personal dislike for him, not a true assessment of his ability.

In a recent article announcing their 2012 early signees, Wake Forest Head Coach had this to say about Redovian...

"Jimmy is versatile player who fits well within our system. He is a gamer who makes others around him better. He has tremendous instincts, work ethic and savvy. He is a very good athlete and plays above his skill level because of all the intangibles. He will push for a starting job immediately and is a future team captain at Wake."

I wish Redovian, and all the kids mentioned in this post the best in their college careers. It is quite an accomplishment for a young man to earn an opportunity to be a college athlete.

  16. Heard Baylor played well. Congrats to the players and staff for a great year!

This was not only a replay of last year, but a preview of 2012, 2013, 2014.... St. Agnes has no competition from the west (Briarcrest, St. benedict and Hutchison) as they outscored their west counterparts 25-2 in the six conference games. I haven't looked, but suspect it is a similar situation middle/east.....

    Count your chickens!

  17. Total BS. Buddy Alexander is da bomb! A wonderful coach. Coach Gannick is great too, but our Baseball success is due to Coach Alex.

I was taken aback by the post from cbg. While I respect he is entitled to his opinion, my comment was meant as sarcasm. I couldn't agree more with your thoughts doct. BA is lucky to have BA! Sorry to have brought Buddy into this conversation. It was meant to be a compliment to him. I didn't know someone would smack him in this thread as well.
