    Duals meets on Friday

    Individual tournament on Saturday

The teams that wrestle in duals are volunteering to wrestle eachother in sanctioned matches. THere is not tournament setup to my knowledge. It is purely for team records and to help for the seedings on saturday. It will be interesting to see who all wrestles in duals... Nash as for you... Ill be pleased to finally wrestle in front of you. See you friday ;)

  2. Furthermore,

I can attest that not one of the people doing rankings in the state of Tennessee: Josh Bosken, Ken Hammonds, Ronnie Bray, Garrett House, or myself gets a single dime for doing any of the rankings and we each spend upwards of 10-15 hours a week searching through data. Take no further look than the dual results I have posted on another thread...Not only is that data set incomplete (as Coach Bray so aptly put), but it represents approximately 20-25% of all matches in the State of TN. Other data has to be searched for through local papers or by prodding for information through various coaches around the state.

Quite frankly I'm tired of hearing about "this D2 guy is better than this D1 guy and vice versa"....a good wrestler is a good wrestler...if said wrestler feels slighted for not being on the rankings done by volunteers, than said wrestler should work harder to be noticed and use it as fuel to reach an ultimate goal of placing in state later this season.

I am also tired of people hiding behind screennames and acting like they have a clue. If you have real data to be used in rankings fine, but don't post conjecture just to try to bait people...it is unbecoming.

Thank you Coach K. I said it a while back in another thread, why hide your name. Be a man and put your name to your words. I completely agree with you. I put in hours just looking up info for my upcoming duals and tournaments so multiply that times 100 and thats your extra work. It is much appreciated and noticed.

  3. Yea im sure if they did not have 10to different wrestling mats and 5I different singlets and made their kids pay for their own shoes knee pads shirts shorts and so on they would have the money unlike most D1 schools make their kids pay for every little thing and use the same mat for 10the years..

You must be talking about the D2 schools out in chatt because in memphis we don't have those priviledges. My school last year finally put our matches on the intercom for students to come out and watch us. We as a team through fees have singlets whenever we feel we need new ones(which is every several years). We have had one match for years and still have our original mat from back in the day. So funding isn't the issue. Our parents pay to get in and for food and we still have to do all the things public school kids do after a match or tournament. Our coaches pride us on humility and simpleness.

I may not know all my stats, but i was giving you a list of #1 vs #1 matchups to look at. and your listing people outside of the D2 top 2 or 3 that have little to no experience.

  4. to show some statistics here are some results:

106- Elijah Oliver dec. Debian 7-1

113- Jacob Stevens dec. John David Santi 5-0

    126- Robinson pinned Deckleman(Robinson is #2 behind Z. Watson)

132- Brandon Brunner transfered to a D2 school and still has had success at BIGGER tournaments

145- Baker lost to T. Smith then came back the next day to PIN him.

    Marchetti dec. T. Smith

    160- Hooker dec. Newburg 5-1

195- Ricky Fisher dec. Ervin 8-4

A little of the little guys, middle guys, and large guys.

Again why say something and not take you own advice D2 has at most 20 kids in a weight class and that's giving a few.. while D1 has over 60 in each class and that's taking alot.. so D1 needs more focus to get the rankings as accurate as possible ..

EXCEPT for the fact that D2 goes to national tournaments and places at them with consistancy. and look at this past weekend. D2 beats a nationally ranked D1 guy 5-1 and D2 isnt ranked nationally at all.. lets talk... CBHS goes to KC and places 6th ahead of teams in the top 50. Father ryan goes to Moeller Duals and wrestles top teams.. Where are you going and placing at national tournaments?...

  6. Coach bray I think u do a wonderful job at the rankings seems to me u do your job way better then that other guy.. he has guys ranked who have lost to non ranked kids and a ranked kid who has not even wrestled this year ...

Whoa there cool cat.. There is a pretty equall consistancy of missing people on both ends. Brays idea of D2 rankings are way off because he left out people who are undefeated and beat people who are ranked 3rd and 4th and put some random people in for 5th and 6th. Both guys only get to see so much wrestling in a week/weekend and they go off what they see and hear so don't go bashing Hammonds, Bosken, and House. Its all opinionated with an influence by stats.

  7. on friday there will duals, not really a dual tournament, just pair up teams and wrestle. this is optional for teams that want to wrestle duals. saturday is the individual tournament, single elimination.

single elimination? so no 3rd or 4th?

  8. Usually, it is a two day individual tournament... did it change this year??

that is what i was told by a pretty accurate source. But last year and they year before that it was a one day was it not? I believe it snowed and since you can't host anything when school is canceled it got postponed.

  9. It would be very cool. I didn't think about the breaking limbs part, but I did factor in if a head gear would affect chokes at all. Would be interesting to see a dual meet too if MMA was a part of high school sports...

as long as the use wrestling mats with the same limits such as reseting in the guard when they go out or off the mat. Refs would still have to stop the "match" to ensure the safety but to score would be hard to decide on what deserves what and having multiple judges that know criteria wil take time to develop. BUT it can be done. as for participation... there are more kids willing to choke someone out that to wrestle..

  10. That's a great showing.......

For those unfamiliar with this tournament type...the first day is wrestling to be placed into pools....Gold, Silver, Bronze.....or one year just Gold and Silver. The second day is wrestling for placement and they place 1 to however many teams they have.

can you elaborate further as to how it works? if you lose one you move to silver, but if you lose 2 your in bronze? so it is our isn't a double elimination?
  11. Akers beat Garcia pretty handily, Carlos was never really capable of getting any offense going despite his best efforts. Mosley beat Isbell and from my completely unbiased seat it looked like the ref missed a couple calls that could have sent the match the other way, but Cole will have his hands full with Parker Smith in the finals should be fun there...any other ones guys?

can you tell us the semi finals matches and results. or the finals? whatever they have finished through..

  12. Teams that are transitioning from the NAIA to NCAA-D2 are considered "Provisional" and cannot participate in NCAA Postseason until all NCAA Standards are met for the whole athletic department.

SIU-Edwardsville is in its last year of NCAA-D1 provisional status meaning they will be able to participate/qualify for the D1 championships in 2013. The highest SIU-E has finished in the NCWA was 3rd. They have an entire NCAA-D1 schedule before coming to the NCWA Conference and National Championships...their schedule this year includes Indiana (they lost 27-15), Northen Illinois (L 27-9), Campbell, Indianapolis (NCAA-D2), Northwestern, Purdue, the Midlands, Shippensburg, Missouri, Eastern Michigan, South Dakota State, and Buffalo. The last 2 years they have faced Iowa.

Liberty was dropped as a NCAA-D1 program, but the coaching staff as well as the NCWA was able to negotiate for the team to keep it's paid staff and scholarship athletes (a few transferred)...so technically they are still sponsored by the athletic dept.

Athletic Dept Programs that aren't listed as NCAA-D1 or NCAA-D2 are just that, sponsored by the athletic dept but not a part of NJCAA, NAIA or NCAA. Many of these teams (such as Apprentice, S. Virginia, and Penn St-DuBois) belong to the USCAA, which doesn't yet have enough members to have it's own league for wrestling.

Teams such as UCF and Grand Valley have a long-standing tradition of raising funds to support their programs, which compete against all divisions. UCF is about to face Cal Baptist in a dual in CA before heading to the Desert Duals later this month. MTSU is beginning to be considered in that upper-echelon category.

Marion Military is a 2-year military school that now serves as a feeder program to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (NCAA-D3), much like USNAPS, USAFAPS, and USMAPS feed the NCAA-D1 programs Navy, Air Force, and Army.

Just for reference, teams such as Newberry (NCAA-D2 #1), Belmont Abbey (NCAA-D3), and Darton College (NJCAA) started off as NCWA programs.

THank you coach K. It helps to know what the difference is especially when the sport is not talked about much in schools or the media and we wrestlers don't know the difference till we hear NAIA and not NCAA. SO thank you very much.

*** Rankings are based largely on information from last year’s performance, current wins/losses, and head to head competition with other ranked members. As the season progresses and wrestlers move weights your ranking may move up, down, or off the rankings all together based on the competition in that particular weight class.***

Carlos Garcia at 138 wrestled 132 at McGavock this weekend. Was that temporary or permanent?

  14. Basically they cut 140, 130 became 132, 135 became 138 and they kept 145. It does make the weights tougher in the end..

for individuals yes, for teams yes and no. Less studs on the front line and they can only cut so much weight so in the end it limited the teams with many studs within 5 to 15 lbs...

  15. After resounding victories against in-state rivals East Tennessee State University 46-10 and UT-Knoxville 54-3, the MTSU Blue Raiders find themselves 12th in the current NCWA Coaches' Poll with a 7-4 dual record.
