His stats were better last year.  He plays on a team that has several potential Mr. Footballs, Dickson being one of them.  Cooper is a leader and has all the intangibles.  He is a team player and credits his accomplishments to his teammates.   He is also a good young man from a Christian family with high moral standards.  He is one of several really good football players in his family.  Congrats to Cooper and his team.  Roll Tide!

His dad was the best basketball player I ever watched play at Wayne County and his uncle was a beast at running back and linebacker and a great basketball player as well! Congrats Cooper!

  2. Not bashing, just curious but how in the world has Riverside made it to this point of the playoffs? I watched them come to Wayne county and win but WC was awful this year and I didn't think Riverside was any better. Congratulations on making it but could someone fill me in, where y'all dealing with injuries back then or what? Once again, no bashing intended and congratulations!

  3. Huntingdon will even the record this week, WC is down. There is some talent on the team but it starts up front with the line and it's not very good. Huntingdon can pick their score this week. All of mine have graduated and all three of mine got to play with the Rice boys and and I have a lifetime of memories! I wish there were some new members to get on here and argue with y'all but doubt it happens, as for me I'll be checking in but my internet fighting days are over. Good luck to y'all on the rest of the season! And just remember to keep praying for Austin!

Location is the key. A good program will pull in players if it’s located in right spot. Problem is most truly rural schools don’t have that luxury and have to play the hand they are dealt. Wayne has a good run and hope they get back there again. They have always been a hard hitting bunch even back several years ago before they won the title and before Rice was there.

Thought i would chime in a little. WC is down but I don't think it's as much a coaching problem as it is losing 21 seniors who played almost every down, very few starters returned from last year. There's talent on the team but not experience. The line is the weak spot but I look for them to get better as the year goes by just as the rest of the team. WC has some good young kids and a good group in middle school so I don't see them staying down long. Huntington will go untouched in 1A until the playoffs, after that I don't know. Also the comment about playing with what your dealt is very true here, WC defiantly plays with all homegrown boys with rarely getting a transfer and when they do it's due to their family moving to the community for reasons other than football. My grandson is only 6 and my youngest graduated last year so I'll be out of the loop for awhile. Good luck to you all.

What about Wayne Co. Yall ready to strap it up over in Waynesboro.

Croppy I ain't seen a practice or talked to anybody about this years team. They are returning some good backs but I'm not sure how the line is shaping up, will just have to wait and see

Interesting to see who they will hire. Hope they are able to get a good coach in that can keep the program going. Did coach rice bring any of his assistants with him.

Wayne county's new coach will be one that's already an assistant I'm pretty certain, just not sure which one yet. Small chance for someone to take over if offered that's already coaching somewhere else but a native Wayne countian, but very small chance but have heard a couple names being kicked around

Perfect response. Not one of the guys you'd think of if someone asked you "who might leave their program?", but the timing and opportunity came together at the right time I'd guess. Best of luck to Coach Rice, and to the program at Wayne County in making the right hire. I'd bet that the hire depends on who goes with Rice, or stays put.

Coach Crews was the head coach before Rice took over, I look for him to take back over

I'm sure Whitwells Hudson Petty would take things just like it worked out...lol..Congrats on your MVP and Whitwells state championship!!

I would hope any kid would take gold over a voted trophy but when the day comes that 700 yards rushing in a season gets you even mentioned for Mr Football they might as well throw the award out the window, they've already tarnished it enough!

To my dawg senior players. Very proud of what y’all have done the last 4 years. Y’all have been a pleasure to watch. Keep your heads up. You have your entire life ahead. You have made our community proud and I am just one of many that have enjoyed watching y’all play the game. Much respect from me to y’all. You have taught those young pups behind y’all how it’s done. I’m not calling out any individuals because all of you do it the right way. You play for each other. You left it on the field and that all I, as a fan, can ask. Proud of each one of you. Wish all of y’all much success in the roads you decide to take in life.

To my tailgating buds....been a sweet ride. See y’all next year

    Go Dawgs!!

You nailed it in this post! I've enjoyed tagging along with y'all and appreciate all the hospitality y'all showed us WC folks standing on yalls side, had a great time talking with the Cville faithful the past few weeks

Which is exactly why this team deserves its due, they took on historical powerhouse programs in the entire state on 4 different fridays in the regular and post season, they beat a Coach Grider coached team twice, they also beat a team for the Gold Ball that displays the type of discipline and coaching level an skill that can only be displayed in Blount County.

After the TC game and the manner in which it was won, I got the feeling this team set itself apart not only because it has a buttload of great athletes, but because they approached every game like they expected to win. From top to bottom, flat out they approached every game like they were the better team, and they were going to line up and win vs whoever they play no matter what was going to happen.

That’s a testament to the coaching staff and their leadership in managing these young men instilling not only the maturity it takes to handle a playoff run like this, but also the  confidence in them after an absolute total butt whipping they took in round 3 last season from Big Brother.

Flat out Champions find a way to win football games because they expect to win them, these boys have expected to win every contest they’ve played together since they were 5, which is why they are due our deep admiration, (our RESPECT) it’s rare teams like this actually do stick together from such a young age and achieve this.

(Note: the only Time I’ve ever seen this group of seniors lose a championship as a fully matured group was as 8th Graders and Wingo was playing against them, and even then, that game came down to Wingo chasing Petty down from behind in what was one of the best middle school games I’ve ever seen, it’s kinda just what they do, win.

Was the 8th grade not the only other time they was the fully matured group? Don't have elementary football, although that's a good idea

Most of you that have been posting on this thread can relax. If the TSSAA doesn't re-align the public school divisions (drop it to 5 instead of 6) it will be the same 3 or 4 teams from the east and west every year in Cookeville. This is particularly true in 1A and 2A. Saw some really weak teams make it to the second round this year which speaks volumes. I'm sure most fans would rather see more competitive games than to set through blow-out after blow-out. There's been a lot of that also, this year, and again it tells you this alignment is way out of kilter.

In 1A your going to have more blowouts than any other class because of all the small weak schools but it should get more competitive across the board the higher the classification. I hope they leave it alone other than maybe realign the regions. I wish WC was back in the region with Cville, Cwood, PC, Richland, MTP and Loretto
