Did anybody notice the terrible coverage in Nashille for the wrestling this weekend. It appeared they only covered Williamson County. I know there is more wrestling than Williamson County than what was covered. Even the picture was from B'boro. Chattanooga covers everbody and we have, even news coverage of the event. The local paper was a disgrace. It appears they only cover the county and not the whole event.
Should we get the local paper in touch with B.B. and Ward so they know how to cover a wrestling event? Their coverage was far greater than the local paper at the tournament.
The local coverage was terrible!
one would think that a story would surface about metro nashville's first 2 time state medalist in the girls division, but no. the local coverage all around was sadly lacking, but i dont think anyone in nashville really cares (which is the scariest part).

The answer to your question is probably "the coach that yelled the loudest".
There seems to be one middle TN team that gets the majority of stalling calls in their favor, and it also seems to be the team that the coach is constantly saying something to the ref.
cant be a metro nashville team; they get warned (or kicked out in some cases) if they go to the table twice in a match.

Overall, the refs at state did a great job. While I did see a handful of questionable calls, overall the calling was pretty solid. The one thing I think we as officials need to do better is to be more consistent in calling stalling. Unfortunately, we do not receive any direct training on stalling; hopefully, we in middle Tennessee can correct that in the near future.
sounds like a good idea; just don't let jack teach it!

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't every Centennial wrestler that wrestled win? Thats fantastic.
and that is one of the many reason the Cen coach received the region 6 coach of the year award this year. he put together a great team and did great things this year. congrats to them.

sorry guys; i have been fairly busy past few days. first, thanks for all the replies.
i agree with the consensus, which seems to be that the butt drag is an legal and ok move to use as long as its done properly--aka without sticking one's fingers up another person's butt hole. i was never taught to put my fingers into holes they do not belong when i was taught that move, or any other move for that matter. i also find it hard to believe that his coaches taught him to "check the oil" when doing the move (now they might have said NOT to check the oil and he was just "confused" by the instruction). i also believe that this is a case of bullying and when the student got called out for it he tried to find an escape of the consequences by blaming the great sport of wrestling.
sidenote: thanks maj for the compliment.

Have y’all heard about the trial that is being held in Cali for a wrestler accused of sexual battery because he performed a butt drag on a teammate during practice? Here is a link to the story if interested:
I’m just curious about the reactions to this issue. Should the move be deemed illegal? Should all moves that incorporate touching certain areas such as the butt, male organ (wont let me use the word that starts with a -p-), and/or testicles be deemed illegal? Are these moves essentially sexual harassment/battery? Should we not teach our wrestlers these moves (butt drag, one-on-two, ball and chain, etc)?
Good wrestlers without a medal?

89 was pretty crazy. davis showed up and out for sure; he looked great out there. biggs (3rd) was beat by caldwell in the round of 16, caldwell (5th) was beat by tally, tally (4th) was beat by biggs...def shows some toss up/coin flip matches at that weight. 89 was a great weight to watch. overall it was a very exciting and great tournament for all classes.
