  1. Not only do they have good young talent, but they are very well coached. They could use one more true post player.

I'm afraid I disagree. I have seen both HH and EHS play and this year it will be an EHS blow-out. They have way too many athletes for HH and they are young also. They play 2 Jrs, 3 soph, and three freshman.

I agree that HH is well coached and she gets as much out of her teams as you can get. The only D2 E/M team that will complete with EHS is BA as they return all five starters.

  2. Also worth noting, the BA db was an inexperienced soph that got put into that position when BA's Derek King came out with an injury. Also worth noting, BA did not seem to be in a prevent defense and Dingess was played one on one by this inexperienced db, with no safety help. Taking nothing away from Parker, but he just threw it as far as possible and hoped Dingess would find it. The whole play was a "Hail Mary" not a play to pick all DII players from.

DIngess and Parker may be deserving of DII ALL State but you have to look at the season, not just one play.

Shakein, I agree one play does not a season make. This was just meant as additional piece of information. The 3rd and 28 that was converted earlier in the second half against Derek King, in tight converage, along the EHS sideline was a more difficult catch. I think that one went for about 40 yards also.

There are at least 4 or 5 WR's that are deserving. It will be close.

  3. These are two different quarterbacks that were required to take on very different roles for their respected teams. Parker was more of a field general in a more pro-style offense (hence less passing attempts). Whereas Beathard was called on to run a spread offense, requiring more passing opportunities. Parker was more than able to electrify the crowd on multiple occasions. The two most memorable came against the unlikeliest of odds and on the biggest of stages of the year. He led the game winning drive against BA in the Semifinals, taking the team 92 yards on 4 of 4 passing in 1 minute, converting a 3rd and 37 along the way. Pretty impressive. Then, there is the game winning drive of the State Finals. Parker drove Ensworth 55 yards in the final 1:30, capping off the drive with a touchdown pass with only 7 seconds remaining in the game (not to mention earning the State Finals offensive MVP). With that said, Beathard was extremely impressive himself, putting up huge numbers and leading his team to the semifinals. I would give the edge to Parker but it would not upset me to see Beathard earn it either.

Worth noting, the 3rd and 37 in the BA game was a pass to Dingess where he just went up and caught it at the highest point, way above the smaller DB. It was a pro-style catch. Also more in favor of Parker; he never seemed to be rattled. If he had just coverted 3rd and 37 or thrown a pick he would have the same demeaner, calm and confident.

  4. Edmiston has 5 interceptions, all came at big moments and also racked up a ton of tackles. There may be better options but from what I've seen live Rodney needs to be at least considered.

I've seen both Beathard and Parker play many times, both are outstanding quarterbacks but Drew flat out got it done it the most critical moments, something Beathard did not do too well. If Beathard get's picked I will have no problem with that either.

As for Dingess, I almost put him in for Hale. Like Parker, Dingess came through but Hale is just a freak and was McCallie's MVP in my opinion. Same for Josh Smith and BGA. There should be at least one more WR spot.

Agree Batey is a superior athlete in every way and will be a major recruit next year.

Dingess was consistent all year but really made some "sick" catches at the end of the season. I saw almost every game and I don't remember him ever dropping a ball he got his hands on. He is not blazing fast because of his height, but he always seemed to be open and he tracks the ball well in the air and can jump. He finished with over 30 catches for about 600 yards in 10 games at WR in a run oriented offense. I agree Josh Smith and Hale are great players. However, the victor gets the spoils.

  5. The season has come to a close, and here is the list of what should be the D-II AA all state team. If any of these boys are left of the list it is a shame.

    Offense

    Player of the year-Jacob Huesman-Baylor

    QB-C.J. Beathard-BGA

    QB-Jacob Huesman-Baylor

    RB-Victor Caro-BA

    RB-Nantambu Fentress-Ensworth

    OL-Ben Still-MUS

    OL-Austin Hicks-McCallie

    OL-Conner Caruthers-MUS

    OL-Barret Cougar-Baylor

    OL-Graham Shuler-BA

    TE-Blake Thomson-BGA

    WR-Weldon Garlington-BA

    WR-Keenan Hale-McCallie

    Defense

    Player of the year-Henry Dickinson-MUS

    DL-Kennan Crenshaw-Ensworth

    DL-John Mackey-Baylor

    DL-Matt Murphy-Christian Brothers

    DE-Jarrod Coleman-McCallie

    DE-Woody Barron-BA

    LB-Davis Helton-Baylor

    LB-James Kay-MBA

    LB-Henry Dickinson-MUS

    DB-Corn Elder-Ensworth

    DB-Cory Batey-Ensworth

    DB-Joe Reigle-MBA

    DB-Josh Smith-BGA

    ATH-Jordan Wilkins-SBA

    P-Toby Baker-MUS

    K-Nathan Renfro-BA

I would substitute David Dingess for either Keenan Hale or Weldon Garlington at WR based primarily on the finish to his season. He came up big in the BA Semi-finals (6 catches for 127 yards). His two long catches on third down and 30 plus yards were one of the keys to that win. Plus the game winner in the Baylor game and he was an excellent down field blocker all year.I think he finished # 4 in receiving yards for D2 behind the Smith brothers and Cory Batey.
