  1. Him being a state champ or placer had no meaning in my post. Only shared why a kid might stay in the A/AA division. The whole point was lost. It was never about a justification of relevance.
  2. [quote name="reftn" post="3133972" timestamp= But in order to be considered the BEST, You have to wrestle the BEST. You have chosen another path. I am looking for the first A-AA that elects to move up and wrestle in the AAA division. Surely that is an option. You know, it might be TSSAA could have to let an A-AA kid transfer to a AAA school by pleading that creating this division they are jeopardizing scholarship opportunities. Based it on this ref. I must have misunderstood. My apologies. I can see a different meaning. My point is only this there are reasons for some to stay and also the coaches getting teams to a higher level should be the push we all make with what is now the current set-up is not going to change anytime soon.
  3. [quote name="reftn" post="3134011" timestamp= The school's have an option to compete in the AAA level I think. But those in favor of the split and stay in A-AA are settling for something less. Set Your Standards HIGH......Then RAISE Them. -- Dan Gable (lolling....read my avatar) Football will always decide the division never wrestling. Maybe TSSAA should be asked for that option but just like the option to transfer so they can go to a AAA school out of district without moving it will not happen.
  4. First I understand that splitting the D1 division is overall a decision that will create talk of a lesser division for years to come. It is a unfortunate that it is already characterizing those that have already proven their moxy at the AAA level as sub standard. These boys didn't decide the change. Folks such as Tronado and RefTN suggest that top A/AA wrestlers should change schools to compete at the AAA level to have respect is false. I chose to applaud their decision to stay loyal to their teams. I will say my son and I had this discussion on transferring to a AAA school and because he wanted to compete for another team state championship, was a returning team captain, and loyal to his coach and team it was an easy decision. Not to mention it was the right decision academically as Greeneville provides a top notch education. We discussed how many such as those posting on this forum would put down his and his fellow A/AA competitors success, which is what you posters are truly doing, but he stayed firm to his loyalties and for this I am truly proud of my son. He never waivered and has not looked back on his decision. He didn't make the decision to avoid anyone he made it for his team and community - not a selfish reason one. I saw a boy make a man's decision and for this I am thankful. He chose family (team) over self centered options. So when you rank family above wresting you should really know most wrestlers consider his team family. Now granted Jon is a senior and it can be said that decision is easier based on timing. Maybe so but look at the Mullin boys. Notre Dame and the Mullin family are a tradition. Should they move for what others think is a lesser path? No I think not. Keep that proud tradition strong. Remember the wrestlers had this choice made for them. Applaud their loyalty and success. Don't put it down saying only 3 or 4 might place at AAA. Instead challenge the coaches who did vote to get their A/AA programs competitive at the AAA top team level. Attend those big time individual and team tournaments to prove they are improving the sport. Help manage kids clubs and middle school programs that produce too notch wrestlers. Work the offseason tournaments harder than ever and compete at the regional and national level without hesitation. Get kids involved in Freestyle and Greco. Install passion for wrestling and in the end that may be the greatest success a coach can have. This is what Greeneville, Pigeon Forge, Alcoa, and Hixson coaches are doing and have been doing for some time. That's my opinion and my two cents. I just don't feel I need to go tell my son he had wasted season because his school was forced to wrestle A/AA and that means nothing to guys posting on Coach T. Oh and just because you don't wrestle AAA doesn't mean you can't wrestle in college. Boys don't accept that and wrestle every big offseason tourney you can. That is where you get seen. Not the AAA tournament. And honesty who would place at AAA and why this thread started is irrelevant. It was decided for the wrestlers not by the wrestlers and has no meaning. So many times we focus on the negatives and not positive actions people strive to take. Webster Booze Bones dad
  5. In this analogy who is "I suck at my job"? The wrestlers or the coaches? Just curious cause the kids certainly didn't ask for a split.
  6. There are many tough semis matches, but for the most part i edged to experience/age on those: 106 - Hutchens (PF) vs. Comeaux (RB) 113 - Mullin (ND) vs. Dodson (EAG) 120 - Kieta (PF) vs. Hargrove (FOR) 126 - Boatman (GRV) vs. Verhulst (ALC) 132 - Mullin (ND) vs. Vance (GRV) 138 - Lacey (PAG) vs. Stegall (HIX) 145 - Martin (MLK) vs. Frye (PF) 152 - Shereef (ALC) vs. Hargis (GCA) 160 - Long (CAK) vs. Holt (ENM) 170 - Johnson (ER) vs. Crawl (RB) 182 - Shelton (SM) vs. Breeden (PF) 195 - Martin (CCE) vs. McClendon (FOR) 220 - Evans (ALC) vs. Pressley (SM) Tough bottom bracket 285 - Baker (ER) vs. Cartwright (ENM)
  7. Marshie you know that isn't going to happen. Our resident Rodney King/peacemaker - we cannot just all get along at times i guess. Just kidding you. Congrats on your boys though. Didnt this happen last year with another TN High parent? i am feeling deja vu No way a Mid State person only comments in Region 1. Barney could figure that out without Andy even helping.
  8. If they release them thru Track Wrestling it looks like 7:01 AM CST on 2/11/14 is the release time to the public. I don't know if they will put them on TSSAA in a different format, but i kinda doubt it.
  9. Anyone got them since they apparently didn't run them on Track?
  10. I guess you have to ask the coaches as they voted. I would say many will consider the wrestlers total body of work thru the year plus the tournament. In this case there was no region 1 season body of work to add to Sammy's tournament. There were several wrestlers that had great tournament showings. Region 1 should do very well at A/AA State.
  11. Hwt 1st Soto (KNC) 2nd Fiegler (ALC) 3rd Grooms (GRV) 4th Martin (GRB) Freshman of the Year - Gavin Hutchens PF Coach of the Year - Greg Foreman PF Lower Weight MOW - Jon Boatman GRV Upper Weight MOW - Ryan Long CAK
  12. Why do presume Humor is a Greeneville guy? He is more like of a total Region 1 guru and cinical genius. Now with that said I am sure there will be 13 more kids with Jon that will be ready to wrestle tonight. Vance, Carlson, Knight, Grooms, and Bowman will fight for Region 1 A/AA titles. Not a one man show at all. Good luck too all up that way.
  13. Thanks alot Humor. I probably just ruined this laptop. Read that and literally the laughter flowed and the drink once in my mouth went spraying over the computer. Leae to Humor to get that kind of respone. Good one buddy. Oh G6 was a good one too.
  14. Jeff while we are past Humor knows no limits. Don't poke that Doberman with a stick. Just a little advice. Let it die.
  15. Oh what a sight to see when Humor lays it down. Good to see the boys - Humor and King posting knowledge. Many a mile we have driven King. That is for sure. Pays off. Won't be the same Region without you two guys there. You can believe I will be watching you guys on Track.
  16. Nice post. There is definitely an off season. Usually wrestle double the matches of the high school season. Folk style individuals as low as area tournaments in SW VA, NC, and TN and as big as VA Beach Nationals. Throw in some great all star team duals like Dixie and Militia Duals - love both of them. And there is 30 matches or so. Then Freetyle and Greco time. Local tournaments like PF and Chattanooga are great. Then state championships, SE regionals in GA and the national duals and Fargo are options. You have 30 more matches. Then preseason starts up and there are tournaments everywhere. Just have to know where to look. I will say you can go as big as you want and yeah that's limited to funds but stay in a 100 mile radius and I bet you can have an affordable 30 to 40 match offseason. Plus the more kids involved the less those hotel bills are. I understand kids work without tournaments but in my opinion and just my opinion until you subject wrestlers to better competition and they get their butts kicked for a while they don't get better. Keep in mind two things must go along with that - a strong support system and a coach that can make them better. Tyler took advantage of events like Dixie Duals. He used the offseason to get better and make up for any time lost as a youth. I only wish the beat for him and hope he gets that AA.
  17. Ok I should assume they aren't. I just know there are several on this forum that travel to about every tournament around and we just haven't seen them. What I say that from.
  18. I hope Townsend does. He could be a fine wrestler. My point is Region 1 needs to not have the goal of placing by your senior year. Need kids ranked and known state wide as competing for state medals as sophomores, juniors, and seniors regularly. Heck even some stud 106 and 113 wrestlers known as freshman. Does region1 have that now? No. That is the problem I point to. That is not a Jeff co problem but a total region issue. We have talked about that on here for years. Reducing the total level of competition due to the split hurt that tremendously with those that are left. It should not be a four team show. Anyway I hope those 4 look at traveling in the offseason and get that medal sooner than seniors. I really do.
  19. Again I am very calm. You called Greeneville an average team. Your words. So I can't disagree? You can have that opinion completely. But based on them being out of AAA region 1 will lose state placers. I think that is safe to say is very probable. Anytime you lose a team that is putting out state placers you are weakening your region. Safe to say? I think Jeff has really improved and with the enrollment they have and the core team being young should become a force in region 1. I think y'all have a great future as a team but ask yourself this - who on that team is a future state placer with their current lack of offseason travel? Tyler Johnson jumped in every big tournament out of state he could. That is what each school should be promoting. You say you are talking individual results. What I am talking about is the core to achieving individual results at a state level not region level.
  20. No not wound tight at all. Just not much for those who play calling teams that have been solid contributors to the old region 1 average. I like to stick to fact and numbers to promote growth and note accomplishments in Region 1, not use the forum to bash others hard work. King Greene and TMarshall are two guys who promote hands on and work to make Region 1 kids better. More should follow their example and respect the sport and make Region 1 a force in the future. We need more Tyler Johnson's and Luke Halls not HS season wrestlers only. If you want to ruffle feathers and play get on a Sommers forum and do so. He likes controversy. And that's not a shot at him.
  21. Then if you are talking about individuals why did you bring up team scores in duals? Might want to look at the rosters instead. Losing Greeneville and Sullivan east probably loses two more state placers. That is talking individual. Not team. I can guarantee you no one but you brought up the "team" point. And on Tyler you are absolutely right. He is a great wrestler. Who for Jeff is going to fill those shoes. We know him well and traveled many a mile with him in the offseason. More Jeff kids should hit the offseason like Tyler did.
  22. Then if you are talking about individuals did you bring up team scores in duals? Might want to look at the rosters instead. Losing Greeneville and Sullivan east probably loses two more state placers. That is talking individual. Not team. I can guarantee you no one but you brought up the "team" point.
  23. Point of football is they had missed many weeks of practice. Makes no sense? There is football shape and wrestling shape. Of course I'm from Greeneville. I never called Jefferson an average team. You chose to call a pretty good Greeneville team one. Glad y'all won the tournament. That's awesome for you. I like your coach and think you all have good times to come but be careful calling a team average. You may step on toes. Hopefully some of those fresh and soph can become a Tyler Johnson type wrestler for you, grasshopper.
