  1. Big time win last night for Peabody 54-44 at GC! Big second half by Peabody as their pressure defense got to GC! Peabody takes the #1 seed, GC falls to #2! Dist tourn is gonna be tough! Gonna have to bring A game every night. Peabody's Mayberry went down at the start of the 4th quarter with a leg injury, hoping she's ok! I will say very impressed how the other kids for Peabody stepped up with 7+ minutes left in the game and increased the lead for Mayberry out and finished the game! Big win at a tough place to play!

  2. Big win a couple nights ago for TCA over Gibson Co. #22 for TCA inside is a hand full. Officiating again very questionable for GC. GC was down 16 and everything turned into a foul on TCA, fouling out 4 starters to let GC back into the game. Little rediculous. I think TCA was 1 or 2 fouls away from having to play with 4. Very very questionable.

  3. I knew you'd have a reply Cradle lol. Largest lead I remember was 14, 54-40 at the end of 3. Peabody cut it to 6 quickly. Fouls were against Peabody first half and against Greenfield second half. Greenfield presses entire game just like Peabody and had trouble containing Peabody is why I thought they got in a little foul trouble in the second half. Thought it was a good called game, let the kids play and decide the game. If the game was over in the 3rd, it sure got close in the 4th lol.

  4. Idk bout that, she's #3 at least top 3 with Lee from TCA. Mayberry gets double teamed every night. Didn't notice double teams by Peabody other than in their presses. Mayberry finished with 12pts, I think, but sat a ton in first half with foul trouble. Her numbers say enough for her over her career and this season and her teams record. No question she needs to be in consideration. Good game vs. Greenfield but Peabody had chances to win also. Greenfield is one of the best around.

  5. You're correct Bullshark. Got to see the Lady Tide play yesterday vs. #2 team in the state Greenfield at 2 pm after a tough game vs. TCA Friday night and very impressed with the way Peabody played. Had chances to beat Greenfield. It was a game of big runs by both teams. Peabody up late in 2nd quarter and Greenfield went on a big run to close the half up 4 or 6 cause of foul trouble by Peabody. Another run in 3rd by Greenfield put them up double digits but pressure defense by Peabody caused Greenfield to turn it over a ton and got Peabody back to within 2pts in the 4th with chances to tie. One thing I see with Peabody is when their first 6 get in foul trouble and have to sit and freshmen come in to play it costs them big time. Cost them vs. GC and Greenfield yesterday. I noticed about Greenfield also that if Chloe doesn't have the ball in her hand vs. pressure they will turn it over a ton. Both 2 good teams hope to see them way down the road meet in the region championship. I think they are both the best in each District.

  6. After seeing a few games recently I am more convinced than ever that single A is wide open in West TN. Huntingdon and Greenfield are top 2 followed very closely by Peabody, Gibson, Dresden, Gleason and TCA. Any of these teams can beat anyone on any given night. With coaches making adjustments on Greenfield I think ur seeing them struggle a little more. One week left 14-A is gonna be interesting with big games left between Gibson, TCA and Peabody. Hope there is some good officiating in the games so the kids can decide who wins.

Just watched Dresden carry Greenfield down to the wire. 49-47 but Greenfield  pulled it out.  We played about as bad as we can play and still won against a good team. Dresden played well and caused us problems.  8th grader Eddy Darby was a spark plug when she played and made 2 clutch free throws with 12 seconds left.  Good job girls.

Greenfield is very impressive! Hope they didn't have the same officials as in the Gibson Co. -  Peabody game, horrible officiating!

Agree.  In single A you don’t necessarily have to have a true Big but you do have to have Great guards.   That being said, I was able to make it to the GC v TCA game tonight expecting to see 2 teams that may be able to make it to the Boro and compete.  Both of these teams are Light Years away from competing for a state championship or even competing with Huntingdon and Greenfield out of west TN.   On my count,  between the two teams, there were over 40 turnovers and the defensive pressure applied by either team was not even that intense. You can’t win big games turning the ball over so easily. Neither team seemed to have a guard that was willing to dribble through pressure and then attack the basket. In my opinion, if you don’t have that, you cannot even begin to compete at the state level. Greenfield and Huntingdon appear to be the best bet for a west TN run at state.

If you wanna see a team out of the West in single A with good guards and a team that will get after you defensively, you need to check out Peabody. I'll say it again, everyone's sleeping on this group, played a very very tough early schedule but are playing better now and pressuring teams into a ton of turnovers. Have good guards and good post play! I expect this group to finish the season strong. Big game with Gibson Co on Tuesday night, both teams are 5-0 in district play!

  9. Mayberry from Peabody needs to be added to this list. Avg 17/18 pts a game on a very balanced scoring group from Peabody. Seen her play vs. several from this list and has out played or played as well as them. Helped hold Shutes and Thompson to 2 pts in games this year also. Kid can shoot the ball, causes problems on defense as well with her length.

  10. One team everyone seems to forget from the west in single A the past several years and always seems to be playing for a district championship and tough as anyone in the region tournament is Peabody. Winners of 7 of their last 8 games with a 1 point loss at Dyersburg being the only loss in a game that could of went either way. This team always seems to get to playing their best ball around the first of the year, off to their best start in years playing as tough a schedule as anyone. Gonna be interesting in January when district games start back up, but I'd keep an eye on this group. 9-4 right now and undefeated in the district. Losses come early in the season for them against very good teams.

I saw several of these teams as well and agree on all.  Add to single A, Peabody, Dresden an Pickett.  All 3 looked real solid. I also caught just a glimpse of Huntington. I think they will compete well again this season.

Agree with you! Saw Peabody knock off Gleason by +10 and heard they beat Macon Co by +15 and played really well at MTSU vs. some very solid teams from AA and AAA. With the amount of subbing I saw Coach Hart do it makes me think Peabody will be very solid again when it comes crunch time during the season. Dresden will be very tough as well from 2 games I saw them play. The girl from Clarksburg will really help them. Funny how teams get transfers in... lol.

  12. I think in single A it starts and ends with Greenfield and Gleason. Maybe Dresden, Peabody, and Huntingdon come along later. In AA it's Westview and South Side, after that it's a HUGE drop off. Lexington, Dyersburg, Covington, Bolivar and Haywood will make a little noise because the entire region as a whole is really down.

Today at Gleason saw Dresden beat Peabody and TCA, Peabody beat Gleason and Camden and lost a close one to Dresden varsity but Peabody jv beat dresden, Gleason lost to Peabody but beat TCA, Gleason jv won vs JCS.. I will say Gleason and Peabody we're basically subbing 5 in 5 out all day. I think all those teams are pretty well even from what I saw today. Would be a Toss up on any given night right now.

  13. There's a very good 8th grade bunch that will be coming up to high school in Trenton. 7 eighth graders I believe, several will get big minutes this year. I think they will give Trenton more depth, allow them to press more and make Trenton even better by the end of the season and for 4 years to come.

  14. 100 percent honest. We could have a elite local travel team IF someone would step up and do it.

Off the top of my head I know this year several from Peabody, Greenfield, Dresden, Westview, USJ, Crockett, South Side, Haywood and TCA are playing real AAU ball this spring. Maybe it will help catch the west up with everyone else from the Middle and East parts of the state.

  15. GC is one of many teams that play year round in West TN. GC has a lot of young talent that could develop into Div. 1 players.

No they don't. Not D1 players. GCPioneer is right on this topic. West TN ball is competitive amongst themselves, but behind other areas of the state. To many kids playing every sport possible. GC is way down compared to the "Butler" years, will have even more trouble next year with the loss of Smithson and White. Will still be able to compete with teams in West TN, but not on the same level of playing ability or athleticism as other teams and other areas of TN. Moore and Darby are legit D1 players, even scarier that they will only be soph next yr, but they take advantage of playing real AAU ball and working out year round. Mayberry from Peabody maybe D1, shows flashes at times, can defend, shoot, drive, score and handle ball. Huge difference for a player to be a D1 kid though, gotta have that extra something. It is a year round attitude/work ethic they have to have.

  16. I should of bet some money, I got all the games right! lol. Idk about the other games heard Greenfield's game wasn't close nor GC vs. Dresden but Gleason vs. Peabody was a heck of a game. Peabody finally took control down the stretch in the 4th quarter. Peabody's defense proved to be the difference. I think they can get after Huntingdon and force them to turn it over. Should be 2 good games tomorrow in the Region Semi-Finals. I've got Dresden and Peabody winning and playing for the region championship. Good luck to all.
